Ah I'm sorry to hear it, I guess a Jazz is pretty different to a Warwick! I have days when I really do miss that Jazz, but I need the 5 strings, and the Warwick is equally ace in it's own way Gary's a really great guy to trade with and I can testify to that Jazz being pretty groovy! Hope you find the right bass mate

I'd go for the 212. You don't need two tweeters for two speakers and they're not that big, and you can always just turn down on the amp. Plus it's cheaper than buying two 112s

Hi! Here's the deal: my friend was throwing out his old Encore P-bass, since he's moved on to bigger and better and the poor thing was totally trashed. No screws in the pickguard, missing nut, pots broken and the coils in the p'ups had somehow unwound themselves. However, rather than see it get dumped, I offered to take it off his hands and hopefully make something of it! So here it is at the moment: The original finish was a thick black and ridiculously hard to sand off! The headstock used to be more P style, but at some point my friend had taken a chisel to the headstock to get rid of the Encore logo. Which worked but it obviously didn't look particularly pretty, so I've re-shaped it Tele-style! So the whole thing's bare wood at the moment, apart from the fingerboard which is still finished (basswood body and maple/rosewood neck, all nice and solid). I've got a spare black p'guard and some Seymour Duncan SPB2 p'ups, but apart from that I'm pretty indecisive on what to do with the thing! Sooo... anyone got any ideas? For hardware/extra stuff/any crazy concepts!
I was wondering if anyone knew what wood the body is? I have searched the internet with no luck, different sites say it is basswood (good!) others say 'composite'! Or, is there a way of telling the type of wood from visual inspection?
I'm in the middle of an Encore project at the moment - mine's basswood, and it's definitely solid! All the Encores I've come across have been basswood, but no doubt there are some other woods kicking around in some models.

Can anyone point out a good example of fuzz/distorted bass?

Buy a black 'guard and build a Wolstenholme Jazz? Otherwise, no. 1 looks pretty cool

Could someone in Yorkshire lend me a p-bass?

I've got a studio session, erm, sometime... -
As you say he has so many effects it's difficult to tell what they sound like... I haven't been particularly impressed so far but maybe he's still getting used to them. He's been recording with an old S2 for years but never played it live because he didn't like the look of headless basses, his 4 new ones are all headed. They're working on prototypes for a signature S2 Classic at the moment, should be ready fairly soon.
Yeah I've been a bit disappointed recently, but I don't think it's just down to the Status'. What with Bellamy achieving something of a 'guitar-hero' status recently, I think their sound guys seem to be emphasizing Matt a bit too much imo. Went to see them at Wembley last year - Chris went into Hysteria on the Kingbass (I think, he changed bass practically every song) and it sounded ace, but they had him turned down so low in the mix, when the guitar/drums came in he was pretty much drowned out, which kind of defeats the point of the entire song, being one of the most famous for bass in the rock genre.

I've noticed Mr. Wolstenholme of Muse has acquired quite a few of his own Status' lately... and he's hardly a slap bassist! If he's touring them, they certainly can't be lacking finger-style Might be worth checking out a couple of 2010/11 Muse live shows, like the Seattle one they did a while back. Although half the time he'll be going through some fuzz/synth pedal

Hi! Just having a clear-out/fund-raiser for my Precision bass project There were some other items on this post but they were removed if you read the posts below - just to avoid confusion! So I've got a pair of Matsui speakers, model no. MHF 808R. They're rather decent and in good condition, haven't used them in a while since I replaced them with a very nice Logik set So they've just been sitting in the corner, as you can see! The only reference I can find to them is a brief mention in a research article in 'the Journal of Experimental Biology': http://jeb.biologists.org/content/213/9/16...ourcetype=HWFIG (paragraph before the footnotes, could be an interesting read I s'pose?) £15?
Had a last minute gig last night at a local pub, and it was awesome! I played my Squier P, and oddly enough I got far more compliments about my bass' looks and sound in one evening than I have in numerous gigs with my Warwick... me no understand!
Haha funny that, I was playing the same model Warwick yesterday, judging by your Avatar

Last night I plugged my bass, set flat, into the head, also set flat, and for the first time in the history of the venue the bloke behind the ridiculous £20,000-something desk said "That sounds really cool, I'm just going to leave the EQ flat!" Made my day.

Ah ace! It's cool to see loads of other Church-going bassists on here! I play here! http://www.newlifelincoln.org.uk/ Been to this Church all my life. Absolutely brilliant place! We run loads of cool community work like: http://www.actstrust.org.uk/ and put on this massive Christian festival every year at the Lincolnshire Showground: http://www.grapevinecelebration.org.uk/2011/, from which we produce an album from the Big Top worship We've got a team about 150 musicians in the worship team (on a rotor of course!) and so I swap between five other bassists. We've got a pretty nice Trace 2x10 and 1x15 rig with a bring-your-own head kind of deal If any of you guys are ever around the Lincoln area you should pop in

Which mainstream artist would you like to play for?
Ben Jamin replied to Musicman20's topic in General Discussion
From two different ends of the spectrum: Jamiroquai or Muse! Jamiroquai for obvious reasons, Muse because they are, to quote Slash: "probably the last great rock band" (with all the showmanship and ridiculous guitars and stages) and Chris is such an under-rated bassist. I went to their gig in Wembley last September, and the bloke didn't miss a single note, nevermind the fact that he's the KING of bass distortion. -
Thanks for all the replies! Sorry for the late response I've been out and about and away from computers for a while! I tried the pliers method but those D'Addarios are SOLID. I thinned them out a bit but they're still just little wide at the waist, so at the moment I've got the old (taperwound) B-string in still. I've had a look at a few taperwound sets but I'm not really a big fan of the sound. After a quick Google it's apparent a few people have filed their bridges to fit the B, which looks to be a better long term solution to me! Sound like a good idea?
-
So yesterday the D'Addario Pro Steels I ordered for my new five-string $$ Corvette (acquired in a trade with Shawman by the way, top guy) arrived. My friend had recommended them as they sound absolutely ace on his USA Std. Jazz Anyway, I did the silly thing and re-strung them from the G up, only to find when it came to the B the string was too obese at the end to fit the Warwick's crazy two-piece bridge. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem/can recommend any strings that fit? The previous strings had the little thread parts at either end hence why they had no problem. Also is it possible to return the D'Addarios for a new set from Stringsdirect? I figure it's a bit of a long shot because I've already trimmed the other four? Cheers!

Haha - that's an Friedland signature rig right there! Good effort with the hairstyle, but is it complete with the beard and glasses? They may be only small features but tonally I hear they make quite a large difference I've not shaved for a while and I've found the extra mass really contributes to the sustain. ...That's my excuse anyway
Just look at my gear list! I even have his hairstyle
Thanks guys! Yeah it looks like a road-trip down to the Bass Merchant is going to have to happen soon! I guess I'll have to try everything out - but brands like Barefaced cabs and some of the other gear I'd never come across, so the comments have been really helpful Oh and like the use of the term 'cab-age'. Cheers!

Haha gotta love a bit o' the Bass Whisperer! I end up wanting pretty much anything he reviews - have to limit how much I watch his videos
Did you watch the ed friedland shuttle vs streamliner test? Makes me want both and an old P Bass!

Genz Streamliner head with the same cab as mine then
Just looked that up and it looks ace! Certainly portable and it's got everything I'd need without over-complicating things - fits the bill very nicely! Thank-you sir! Now I can't wait 'til Christmas
