Andy
Yeah man, bring the monster board! Also I'd like to pick your brains about pitch shifting stuff? Norm
2.
Yep, seems that is clear of everything I am doing, so I will be there. I could bring.. I don't know, what do people want to see.. A Maruszczyk elwood, one of the Ibanez SRC6's, Ibanez SRFF705 or I guess anything else in the list!
Hey Woody have you still got the squier bass VI? Would like a go on one of those! Cheers Norm.
3.
Wooooooo! 1. ChunkyMunky - Musicman Bongo 5HH (If it hasn't sold), Genz Benz ShuttleMax 12.0, pedals and some other bits.
2. Norm - Stingray 4, Squier Jazz 5, Trace v4, Barefaced vintage & some pedals.
4.
I love that. Im not sure my ribs and arm would say the same.
You have to play it right up under yer chins like him!☺
5. Very sad news. Great drummer, having a bit of a krautrock binge lately. Mushroom is my fave CAN track, especially for the drumming!
6.
Juan Alderete - The Mars Volta 😰
+1 for Juan Alderete. Early P J Harvey stuff has quite a bit of fretless, bassman used a Stingray, cant remember his name?
7. Band 1 is recording album currently so treated myself to some decent Sennheiser headphones for recording/monitoring. Closed back comfortable & sound great!
8. Just the fact that people film absolutely everything winds me up. They spend so much time dicking about with their phones they miss most of the gig! Take the memory & experience with you not a shaky bit of vid & gargling sh*tty distorted sound. Boils my piss! & relax, calming cup of tea, Norm? Ta, that would be lovely.
9.
Makes a difference if you are the TOUR support band rather than the "one night" support act in my experience. Probably because the PA guy knows he is going to see you every damn night of the tour.... cuts both ways, you still have to be nice!
my experience is only of "one night" support slots with a touring headliner, it has depended entirely on what channels are left or how the pa is configured by the main act, the sound people have always done their best for us though, despite this IME. We are always polite, professional, flexible & get them drinks in! If my band had bought onto the whole tour I would be expecting to get enough channels & decent sound every night, although I get the sense that might be naive.
10.
Was that the one in Skegness at start of October, Paul? If so we played there on the Friday (we were on the Introducing Stage, and won the competition entry to the Main Stage next year).
Nice one! Congrats on bagging a main stage slot!
11.
I am new to this whole game but it seems everyone loves someone who can sort the technical stuff out and fix things when needed so do that as well as playing bass and hoping not to cock up too much. First proper outing Friday so time will tell.
Go for it! Dont drink before gig, ride the adrenaline wave, dont worry about making mistakes, laugh if you do & most importantly have fun! & as said above, report back!
12. Band 1(originals working band) bass player, backing vox, everybody helps load in/out, general encourager, mover-er abouter-er on stage, occasional gig getter & good time charlie. Band 2 (originals not yet ready to gig) songwriter, lead vox, bass player, guitar (pitchshifting in a Royal Blood stylee) basically everything bar drums.
13.
The role in my last two bands seems to have been to develop an intense (& mutual) hatred of the keyboard player & then leave.
:-)
14. For me the buzz of a big stage/lights/pa/crowd outweighs any potential pitfalls of the support gig. As Lozz said it has sometimes been with bands I like so its great to see them soudcheck see how they work. Winning over a few of somebody else's fans, even if just one, is pretty cool. Mind you I like the setting up/ tearing down stuff too, yeah sad I know!
15. Lozz's post earlier summed it up, be professional be prepared, be polite & helpful & then hopefully with the sound & lighting people on your side, you have a better chance of sounding & looking good out front!
16. Have supported name touring acts a few times & have had a proper sound check with full monitors & reasonable room on stage on some occasions & a last minute line check with no room (not allowed to move anything) no monitors at all on others depends who you are supporting. Soundpeople have always done their best under the circumstances & we were always professional & got on with it despite the difficulties imposed. No moaning or the soundpeople lose sympathy very quickly. Some headliners were unaware there a support band & others were very friendly & approachable. Every gig was different & we always did our best to put on a show. But yes, welcome to the music industry, you know exactly what rung of the ladder you are on!
17. Thanks Ryan, I thought they were solid but the shading on the pics made me ask.
18. Thanks again Flat Eric, the pick ups are beefy then on these basses? The body question was more aimed at the OP, Ryan?
19. Thanks Flat Eric for your expert knowledge. Your white bass is sweet! Question still stands about the body construction?
20. Slightly confused, is it a Blazer (title) or a Roadster (body of text)? It looks to have facing laminates of nice figured wood front & back like a sandwich or is it just an optical illusion & its a solid body? Ta, Norm.
21. Join "the vintage japanese guitar fanclub" on fb, there is a huge bank of knowledge & they are very friendly, helpful & ready to share that knowledge! :-)
