1. Certainly looks like mine! ... very unusual (and nice) in this colour. The strings and Sadowsky style knobs are new. I did a trade deal with artisan (Harrogate) for his 62P re-issue. Not sure where (or with whom) it's been since then - but it is a very nice Jazz bass
2. Yes, the top is very unique (and rare), and the SB's are Villex's which are highly rated. ... and, fortunately, it plays as good as it looks ! ....
3. Still available (... still beautiful/exceptional!...) - looking for £1250 ono. (incl.)
4. As pictured, I had 2 sets of these: 4x Dome KNobs and 5x Ringo Knobs. Both sets are Gold/Abalone shell. Both were fitted to basses I bought ... but I'm not keen on this 'bling' type of knob and replaced them with std. Chrome or Black or Wood. They do look striking on the right type of bass/finish. They're VERY expensive: WD sell @ £8-15 per knob (these Domes are £10ea. and the Ringos £12ea.) !! They DO come with their own allan key, but without the brass sleeves (pictured) .. which you'll need (or similar) if fitting to the 6mm split shafts (not required in the solid 1/4" shafts) Domes(4) @ £SOLD Ringos (5) @ SOLD !!!
5. Pedulla MVP PentaBuzz(5s) Fretless Signature String Bass ... I've been 'holding-back' on this as (1) I don't really want to sell it (.. but will always tend to favour my Kinal MK-5FL), (2) didn't realise I'd be be needing to fund a new boiler, and (3) didn't want to step on SSP's toes (as I realise he'd had some problems selling his P'Buzz - now gone!). I think most will know this bass and its merits, but am including some description from me and Pedulla re. concept & specs. etc. Pedulla MVP 5 string fretless Bass; vintage cherry(burst?), Bartolini P and J active pickups, Volume, Pan and Active Bass + treble Tone knobs, great black hardware. OHS(fitted)C. Bass is in near new shape except for a small 'ding' on the fretboard where the coating is missing. It's in an odd place (just above the 7th fretline & between the B & E strings - so it doesn't affect playing at all.. If you're in tune. I'm guessing the original owner must have knocked the 'board here and the coating has gone; as you can see, the rest of the f/board is shiny and superb) Based on the unique design that first brought M.V. Pedulla to prominence, the MVP (fretted) and Buzz (fretless) basses combine hard-hitting tone with player-friendly ergonomics, making them favorites for the stage and studio alike. Available in 4-,5-,6-, and 8-string configurations, the MVP is a bass featuring neck-through body construction for superb sustain and tone, plus a sleek and facile neck shape, ebony fingerboard, and a beautifully sculpted flame maple body. The ergonomic design includes a deep cutaway on the treble side for easy access to all 24 frets, and an extended bass-side horn that provides a perfect balance point when a strap is used. The 5-string and 6-string basses are available in both 17.5mm spacing and 19mm spacing. This one's 17.5 (adjustable, 17-18mm). A three-piece laminated maple neck passes through the entire length of the body, providing maximum focus and sustain. In addition, a double -acting truss rod and two steel stiffening bars in the neck reinforce and maintain stability. The 24-fret ebony fingerboard is inlaid with 5mm pearl dots, and its hardness resists wear and contributes to the MVP's distinctive tone and sustain. The MVP/Buzz is available with your choice of pickups: PJ (JJ, or Soapbar) PJ combination: This set-up is extremely versatile and as a result is the most commonly used pickup configuration of the MVP/Buzz series. The PJ, to our ears, is the best way to reproduce what the strings and wood of the instrument are doing acoustically. The split “P” has a tight midrange growl, and combines very well with the upper mids of “J” pickup. With a full-range, flat frequency response, the PJ set-up allows you to tailor sound through careful selection of amplifier, cabinet and EQ A durable and lustrous polyester finish protects the MVP/BUZZ from the rigors of performance and travel. The fretless version of the MVP, the Buzz series, embodies the essence of fretless bass: responsive to every nuance, able to translate the most subtle of musical expressions, yet possessing the same authoritative tonal spectrum as the MVP. Its polyester-finished fingerboard is glass-smooth, giving the Buzz it’s distinctive voice, while protecting the ebony from the rigors of performance and round wound strings. Inlaid white markers in the fingerboard guide the player, and are especially helpful to both beginners and seasoned veterans. All other features of the Buzz are identical to the fretted MVP models. Details/Options: BODYWINGS: AAA Flame maple, Optional Limited Edition 5A Flame or Quilt maple. NECK: Capillary (neck-through), 3 piece maple laminate. SCALE LENGTH: 34 inches. FINGERBOARD: Ebony . NUMBER OF FRETS: 24 inlaid white markers, (plus finish on the fretless Buzz fingerboard). INLAY: Mother of Pearl, 5mm dots. NUT: Brass. TRUSS ROD: Single rod, double-acting adjustable with two stiffening bars. WEIGHT: range from 9 to 10 lbs. HARDWARE COLOR: Black. BRIDGE: ABM 3-way adjustable machined brass with roller saddles. MACHINE HEADS: M.V. Pedulla/Gotoh. STRAP PINS: Gotoh. PICKUPS: Made for M.V. Pedulla by Bartolini: PJ. ELECTRONICS: Active, Bartolini., CONTROLS: volume, pan, bass boost/cut, treble boost/cut. CONTROL KNOBS: Anodized aluminum (black with marker). FINISH: Gloss polyester, including BUZZ fingerboard. COLOUR: Vintage Cherry (Sunburst)
6. "I have just cleaned the bass up with some nice polish and fingerboard cleaner..... " [OK ... HOW do you do those 'Quote' bits ??... I either get it all - including photos - or nothing!???] .... obviously, time well-spent Rob: bass looks great now! ..... great price, great bass(es) - would be an exceptional 'player' (as it is) or well-worth a refin' ! I reckon the 'Standard' model might also be something unusual .. mainly 'cos I've not seen one before. They're usually 'Custom' (the new Standard, I guess) or Signature. Anybody have an idea as to what period the 'Standard' was offered? For the price, you'd be hard pushed to find a superior fretted 5 !!
7.
still waiting for a reply to questions asked. trev.
??? ... sorry Trev TB - I cannot find anything in the listing or in my PM's ?
8. ditto, Andrew - thanks for the bump (... and staggering). I think it's both a sign of the (financial) times plus basses that are not (as yet) so well known or represented in the UK. There are quite a few Watchers (as always) on the ebay listing, but I might choose to withdraw it.
9. Another last bump/try @ £249 incl. Just had another check on ebay: this one's there @ £499 (BIN + £20 p&p) ... but only in black or blue; to me, the red is by far the nicest finish. If it's not attracting any serious interest, I may as well try it on ebay. If preferred, I can change back the Flats to roundwounds. £249 incl.
10.
Yeah, there is a lot of variation in the finishes of these basses, this is one of the lighter cherries! Tony
re. the 'Colour Issue(s)' and the 2 basses (s_s_p / S'wave) ... I think it's complicated by Pedulla in that they offer (I think) both Cherry and Vintage Cherry (which is darker) + Cherry (and Vintage Cherry) - Burst. Here's my Vintage Cherry (Burst?) P-Buzz which has the optional black hardware and the epoxy coated fretboard. it is - I agree - the best FL available (.. except for my Kinal MK5 FL, which also has the epoxied 'board, so it's like a bolt-on P'Buzz with the added EQ/triple-Bartolini ... I'll add a photo!):-
11. Interesting update from the buyer:... ".... I met Carmine Rojas (who currently play with J.Bonammassa) last year and he played with one XB-2 ..... otherwise I could never know the quality of this bass because this brand is unknown in France...." I don't know Carmine Rojas (although I have found a couple of references here on BC) but guess he might be a bit of a player .. with a good taste in basses (!!).
12. SOLD !! .. to the man in France.....
13. Final 24h. - there's currently bid(s) on ebay and a large number of Watchers, so it is likely to be gone tomorrow.
14. Thanks G' - good advice, on both counts! Once I've completed tidying this - removing simple BUMP's etc. - (I hadn't even noticed the delete X before!) I'll pop-out and buy a ticket: if I win I'll remove this and start compiling a to-buy list of instruments !
15. Hi Golchen .. and thanks (again) for another bump and very positive comment ! I guess it's hard to sell anything much at present, but having always been interested in more esoteric and unusual stuff (often not well known in the UK) doesn't help - although it's now easier to research these instruments on the net (... but not to try them, of course). That's probably less true for this Xotic bass (cf. the Devon) as they've been around and well known (in the USA) since the early to mid 90's. Give this evening's EuroMillions a try !!
16.
are you interested in a trade for my ibanez artcore semi acoustic 6 string guitar?
.. no interest at all, sorry.
17. Not really - looks nice bass, but I'm OK for 5's currently and have had issues with most J5's in the past. BUMP for a Bargain / opportunity.
18. New (silver/550) unit SOLD (twice!)
19. Last try/reduction: £249
20.
How wide are the necks on these? They look wide but it could be that the body is small. Are they similar width to a p-bass? Also, how's the balance? Cheers
Very much a P bass with a radical body design and new-concept pickup. If you watch the youtube demo (link?) the chap demo'ing makes a similar comment. Balance is fine.
21.
Interested in a Fender Jazz V?
Maybe later - need to get a cash sale if possible.
22. OK ... one last try for this (these) on here (+ebay) after which I'll return to my original idea of defretting the bocote one. Creating this new post for the amber/quilt model. Specs and details are the same, except that this bass is marginally more 'mint' and is very rare in terms of the finish and 5AQuilt. It's also featured somewhere on the current Xotic website. Here's also a scanned copy of an old brochure I found for the TB-2 (original neck-thru version) which outlines many of the features of the bolt-on (SB-2) Quilt/Amber-Black-Burst Xotic SB-2/5 @ SOLD !!!!!
23. OK ... one last try for this (these) on here (+ebay) after which I'll return to my original idea of defretting the bocote one. Creating a new post for the amber/quilt model. Will add links to combine the two:- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=74330 Here's also a scanned copy of an old brochure I found for the TB-2 (original neck-thru version) which outlines many of the features of the bolt-on (SB-2) Bocote/Natural Xotic SB-2/5 @ £949 (incl.)
