1. Yes, sorry: bass is now SOLD. I did read your post and replied pretty much straight away; but following that, I had a full offer and the bass is now on its way.
2. Thanks for the ++ comments / BUMP-btp#1. Certainly a decent P bass for the price: great Starter or Backup..........
3. This is an Encore PK40 (I think) Precision bass in sunburst. It's not the short-scale version. Plays well, has a bit of flame in the headstock and the sunburst is nicely done. Serves well as a decent starter or backup P bass. There's one bruise on the top (doesn't show in the photos) but is otherwise excellent. I could find a gig-bag (or hardcase - but might cost almost as much as the instrument!) for it (@ cost) but otherwise just planning to sell/send as-is.
4. ... currently ON-HOLD ...
5.
I'm looking for a light weight bass to replace an old heavy jazz bass for reggae gigs since my back is bad and I'm still too young to sit down. It needs to sound very deep, smooth and punchy, I only use the neck pup with the tone rolled off and no mid or treble on the amp. I also use heavy flatwounds for an old skool dub sound. Do you consider this bass suitable ? PS You can get an idea of my sound by visiting my reggae band's myspace page here.
With the bass set-up as you describe it should be fine. You might need to adust the nut-slots and truss-rod for those heavy (50-110's?.. it's currently on 40-100's) FW's. I did use FW's on it for a while and the sound was much deeper/heavier - they were still lights though (40-100's) Hope this helps!
6. aesthetics ... I think they wanted to make it look modern/different.... here's a black one, with white lines (!):-
7. I'll probably give this a spin on ebay, but thought I'd mention here first ... just in case anybody's looking for a decent/cheaper .. and more unusual bass (... and a lot lighter)..... Bought it out of curiosity (with the new AIR build concept) and project as it had a couple of minor issues and bits missing. Now fully sorted/complete and plays well. Tried it with Flats for a while and found that beneficial (in providing more bottom). The lights are working and do show the level of Volume per pickup. The black, plastic cover at the f/board end was missing - so I've made a simple wooden veneer cover. I'll add the Yamaha bumf/specs and some photos. Prices seem to vary a lot online - I'm asking lesss, so might appeal as it's better than many in that price-range, and is very light and just different. Plus a basic gig-bag. I'll probably split it to send (just strings & 4 neck-bolts removed) for safety. Yamaha state: RBX4 A2. The Secret of A.I.R. TechnologyAlternative Internal Resonance (or A.I.R.) technology utilises a lightweight wood core sandwiched between a harder, heavier wood on both the front and back of the guitar's body. Special sound tubes pass through the body so that string vibrations normally resonating only the guitar's top are transmitted through the entire body. By exciting the entire body structure and shaping the tone with the hard top and back, A.I.R. construction creates a full, powerful, and resonant tone with distinctive presence and body that are truly unique. - Construction: Bolt on - Scale Length: 34’’ (864mm) - Fingerboard: Rosewood / 24 frets - Radius: 10’’ (250mm) - Body: A.I.R. Body - Neck: Maple - Tuners: Diecast - Bridge: A.I.R. Mounting, System Bridge - Pickups: Single Coil x 2 - Controls: Front Volume, Rear Volume, Master Tone - PU’s Colours : Front = Green, Rear = Blue; the brightness of the indicator gains in conjunction with volume. This regular scale model weighs just 3.2 kg and offers superior balance in addition to its ultra light weight. Fusing seamlessly with the player it offers unprecedented playing comfort that stuns bassists who regularly play a standard bass. Light weight, superior comfort, and easy playing action let you concentrate on your playing for extended periods of time. Physically it is light in weight, sonically it is anything but. A.I.R. technology and newly developed pickups deliver a thick, robust tone that is clear, powerful, and blends well with a wide range of musical styles.... £ SOLD !!!!
8. Currently ON-HOLD / pending.....
9.
Surprising that - I had one of these once and they're great little things. No need for one right now, but I do have a friend who may well be interested He's not on here, but I've just sent him info and will get back to you hopefully later today No fat ladies on the stage yet my friend, but she's warming up in the dressing room
Thanks Mark - look forward to any progress/update .. and appreciate the help.
10. ... still available: Watchers up to about 30 by the end .. and still nothing. Currently have one BC'er and one 'ebayer' interested, so awaiting offers. As it stands - willing to hear offers based on the OT.
11. Thanks for more positive replies! .. there seems to be quite a bit of of interest (currently on ebay with about 23 Watchers), so hoping it will be sold this w/end !!
12. Thanks wbb' - it is a pretty special bass, both aesthetically and tonally.
13. .. with no apparent BC interest in anything Xotic, let's move a bit closer to home - Devon. This is a Devon Diamond-J(azz) fretted 5. The top is made from burled Willow (very rare stuff) which was aged for a couple of years and the combined with a body core of nicely grained swamp ash. The neck blank that the neck is made from was originally glued up in 1994 - so it's very old, well-settled and won't warp at all! It's a very impressive (and beautiful) neck of Wenge, Cocobolo, Purpleheart and Maple). Weighs in at around 7.5 pounds!! Sounds incredible and is the most comfortable 'Jazz-5' I've tried, with exceptional playability. Great tonal options, with the passive tone of the Villex pick-ups plus the 18v. pre which is very responsive. Acoustically the bass is very resonant and sounds very articulate when unplugged. The B string is very defined. It's in excellent overall condition (as per the photos) Specs: 5 string Swamp ash body, walnut laminate, burled/flamed willow top 13 pc. (or 7pc.) neck, wenge/maple/bocote/purpleheart/bloodwood (not sure as both are offered and, whilst there are 13 'sections', 6 of these are thin maple 'stringers') 35" scale, 19mm string spacing, wenge fretboard Pick-ups: Villex SB's (EMG 45 size) Pre-Amp: Low End/Benavente 2 band Knob layout: Volume / Volume / Passive-Tone / Treble / Bass Switches: Mid. Shift / active-passive / mute Bridge: Hipshot Style "A" Ultralite Tuners String though body option Bocote String tree Matching cavity covers (held in place with magnets!... No need for hex.key or rounded-screws!!) Natural Wax finish Quality Gig bag: RoadRunner. I could change this a a decent/new hardcase (currently 'spare') but the RR gig-bag is one I've not seen before: semi-solid construction with thick internal cushioning. Also has a detachable carry-bag/pocket (4x chrome clips) which is really useful. I'd not be offfering this but have recently sold my Devon 5 Fretless and, whilst I'm still currently advertising it (them), might be reconsidering defretting one of my Xotic 5's. And the usual need for Xmas funds, of course. Overall it's excellent - just a few minor marks. £1450 incl.
14. Thanks chaps for some very supportive and helpful comments ... all I need now, is a buyer. Still available!
15. Classic Ampeg sound .. fairly clean (cf. the original valve version) but not like the new., transparent Combo's & systems. The amp is incedibly versatile and well thought-out for its age (see the specs, above, with the various pull/switches), and the 15" gives you the thump/bottom that's hard to get with the 10's and 12's. Of course, eithr bit can be sued individually, and it's also easy(ier) to add speakers etc. (as the inbuilt speaker isn't internally wired to the head - it requires a lead).
16. BUMP / Offers (based on listed price). ... I did have one PM/offer but it seems to have been mis-deleted. Could that BC'er pls. contact again (sorry!!!).
17. Photos show both plus some new photos of the Quilt/burst bass (for detailed photos of the Bocote/natural, check back to the original post)
18. Now Confirmed as Sold / Traded ... Gone !!
19. Agree - it's totally unique and I probably enjoyed 'playing' with this one more than the others I tried and eventually used. The range and scope of sounds is remarkable and it handles bass really well. I'm tempted to keep it, but it's pontless it sitting in its box for 99% the time.
20.
I've misplaced my copies of these, I'll take them of course there shipping will be a few quid more with the Royal Mail, but we can sort that out I think.
OK - sold pending. Send a PM with details and I'll see if I can estimate the postage online. That's the quickest sale I've ever made !!
