1. Planning to ebay this .. but thought I'd give it (another) try here first, just in case. It's a Roscoe SKB-3000 4 string fretted bass. Beautiful and rare instrument and almost‘mint’ (just one small ding). This is a newer (the Teal color has only been available in more recent years) and rather rare model as Roscoe does not normally build 4 strings in the SKB, which features a slightly larger (and, in my opinion, both more comfortable and aesthetic) body than the normal LG model. A very nice bass combining build and specs from both the LG and SKB editions. Also features a very attractive spalted f/board. 34” scale. 10 – 16 – 19 mm (nut, 24th fret, bridge) spacing(s), 1½ “ nut. Only 8.4 lbs! 2. BUMP (ing) for the start of a new week. Some potential trade/£ offers, which I'll consider (along with ebay'ing) if no takers ...
3. Sunbay dump .. been some serious (?) interest in this; but no taker .. as yet.
4. Thanks WnW .. getting quite some PM's/interest in this; but no takers as yet...
5. HI Michael Well, you've placed me nicely into a quandry here: was thinking of listing my Focus SA (2) power amp ..... but had previously considered adding a Focus 1 or 2 to the SA (as suggested by AI - 'using the Focus SA as a "slave" amp to the Focus 2, and with each amp driving its own speaker; you have doubled the output power and the speaker radiating area which translates to more volume and more headroom').. But, of course, they're hardly ever available (!). Will have to give it some thought.... How's the FII aesthetically? Mine's about the same age but still looks almost brand-new; the dedicated case/bag and light weight (no bumping and dragging) means it's not really been knocked-about at all. Cheers D.
6. GMR Pi 4 is now SOLD (pending payment) !!!
7.
Any interest in a Fender 3TS MIM fretless Jazz for trade?
HI David - thanks for the interest and offer, but I'm pretty happy with my Celinder Classic Jazz, and might well be looking for another (special) J4 if I do make it to Frankfurt (which is why I'm more keen to get the ££'s)
8. bump .. + nice idea Owen; accomodation's the perennial problem (once time & ££ is cleared)...
9. Bumping back to Page-1 .. and thanks, various guys, for the interesting background info. and positive comments.
10.
the E string looks high off the fretboard, all of them for that matter, ....my hands would be in serious pain if I played that Nice bass!!
That's just a very deceptive photo: the action is probably the lowest of all my basses (2-3.5mm throughout) .. as I mentioned in the description.
11. Thanks John .. but I always thought the same about you! Surpised by your 'mega-sale' (!!) - how's it going and what's planned for the future (in terms of instrument/s etc.)? You could do what I'm doing (or planning, thus far) - get over to The Messe (always wantted to; never managed it as yet) on the proceeds of a few sales & savings, with some dosh to buy something 'special'. But ... with all that gear on display (and a CCard).. can i trust myself ?!!
12. THE Aria Pro II 1000: body no.- 555719. Matsumoko 4.11.NM. Designed & Approved by H. Noble (Nobuaki Hayashi). An early model (1980) as signified by the use of 'The' (aria pro II), early design Tuners, and flush Jack-socket (1986 was the final year of the Matsumoko factory and the bass produced 1978 - 1987) 5-pc. Maple/Walnut 'Transmit' (thru) neck. Brass top nut and slot-in (solid) bridge. Ebony or Jacaranda fingerboard. Ash body (wings) stained to the popular 'Oak' finish. MB1E double-coil active pickup; Volume, Tone and 6-position active BB Circuit control with bypass (Active-Passive) switch. Difficult to find in this sort of condition (really excellent overall + plays perfectly with no electronic problems etc.) and something of a 'cult' bass (see links below !). Don't appear very often on ebay, although two have recently sold: a 'lower' model (SB-R60) from 83 - @ £358 (now relisted due to some issue: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=015 ). And a similar SB1000 (in Germany) from 81 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=004 - (though actually the later/revised model with the non-flush jack-socket and power light) @ €884 (about £660). The only aspects of the bass which prevent it being an exceptional Collector are: the minor dings (not bad for a 28-year old, mind) and that the knobs are not original. The current Active Circuit switch is from the original bass, but would have been for either Vol. or Tone. The original control was a long, slim knob. The current Vol./Tone knobs are newer. And on the rear cover (for the battery), the original threaded (countersunk) bolts have been replaced with 'dome' type (of the same thread/pitch). From the Aria Owners site (below):- Aria's SB-1000 bass is widely recognised as the first high-quality original Japanese bass. Several noteworthy bassists such as John Taylor of Duran Duran and Jack Bruce helped popularise SBs in the early 80's. Nowadays with so many other good basses on the market, SBs have become something of a forgotten secret. Yet these basses not only look beautiful, they sound good, play well if they've been properly looked after, and are superbly and solidly constructed. Aria continued to produce SBs in Japan and reissued the SB-1000 (90-94) which sold in the UK for a hefty £1500. The man we are indebted to for designing the original SBs lives in Japan and is called Nobuaki Hayashi. On some SB headstocks you can see a sort of Anglicised version of his name, “H Noble”. SBs were were actually manufactured by a company called Matsumoku, with whom Aria had ties. Various links:- http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/fyfeholt/aria.htm (SB1000 FULL details and History) http://www.laguitarsales.com/pages/3460/Ar...B1000_Black.htm http://www.ariaguitars.com/int/00int_main/...pro_new_02.html (new model / reissue) http://www.matsumoku.org/models/ariaproii/bass/sb/sb.html (original Matsumoko website details) http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/fyfeholt/sb1000.htm (owners 'club' and photo examples etc.) This bass came to me as part of a 'deal', so it's a difficult one to price (?!). Based on the SBR60 & SB1000 (above), splitting the difference equates to £510. So I'm offering at £SOLD SOLD SOLD (incl. DHL 24h). There's no case or gig-bag but I'd be happy to source one (at cost) if requested...
13. Thanks Cai ... I'm trying (hoping) to make a visit to The Messe (finally!.. ) this year and to have enough funds to both go.. and to actually buy something. The Vigier is a bit 'rough' cf. a nice, new one .. but it now plays really well, has the Vigier sound & feel .. and a 'realistic' price-tag
14. ARION STEREO FLANGER SFL-1 Still in the original box and still has the instruction manual, it's in very good condition and shows little sign of use ....EXCEPT that one of the lugs on the plastic 'band' (inside there's the battery) has broken, so Ive used it with tape (on the right side) and just lifted the left side to remove/replace the battery. Designed in Japan and originally cost around £50 - I think it was (is) a guitar pedal but does work efectively & nicely as a bass flanger. 4 controls / stereo (+mono) output (see photo) £18
15. Just ordered a new cab so now willing to let this one go….The Glockenklang DOUBLE LIGHT is a 2 x 12" bass cabinet, weighing 23.5kg (51.5 lbs) with carpet surface.. It features 500 watts at 4ohms with a sensitvity of 100 dB. You can use it alone or in combination with other cabinets. Also very suitable for double bass. The tweeter is adjustable. (The "std." version has the same sound quality, but weight is 5,5 kg (12 lbs) more (29kg./ 63.5 lbs) Technical Data: Powerhandling: 500 watts Impedance: 4 ohms Sensitivity: 100 dB/1 w/1 m Frequency range: 36 Hz - 18KHz Double Light Dimensions HxWxD: 575 x 615 x 445 mm (23,5" x 25" x 17,5") Weight: 23.5 kg (51.5 lbs) Glockenklang Double Cabinet (Bass Player Review) "…..Germany's Glockenklang began building high-quality PA and hi-fi equipment in 1974 and many high-end bass builders now use Glocks as a reference standard because they reveal an instrument's nuances and character in microscopic detail. Luthiers often set the Glock's tone controls nearly flat or bypass them completely to hear a bass's pure sound. The Double cabinet uses two custom-made 12" Volt drivers, plus a Fostex tweeter. Glockenklang uses only Speakon jacks; there are no 1/4" speaker jacks. The birch cabinet is finished with a durable epoxy coating, and studio-grade acoustic foam lines the inside. The Glock rig [in this case using a 'Soul' head] sounds smooth, effortless, and relaxed, with exceptionally refined detail and a clear focus. Transient response is quick and well controlled without sounding clinical or dry. It really brought out the low-string growl of our Lakland 5-string, and it's one of the few amps we've tried with our Underwood-equipped German upright that didn't require an external preamp to sound really good. "The upright sound is very natural, open, and musical—the Glock reveals the true character of every bass you play through it. If you have an expensive high-end bass or a fine vintage axe and you're looking for a rig that enhances its subtleties, then Glockenklang should be on your must-audition list—if you have four grand to spend……" As with all GlockenKland gear, this isn't cheap(!). The current (best) price for a new one appears to be Thomann @ €1159 (£870 - for my 'Light' version) and about 922 (£695) for the std./heavier version. This one's in excellent aesthetic condition and perfect working order (the cabs are VERY reliable) with the only aesthetic 'damage' being a slight scuff on the badge, a small 'click' on the bottom-edge carpeting and - as would be expected - some scuff/wear to the bottom corner protectors (plastic). £SOLD (incl.) ..... REDUCED TO £SELL (INCL.) http://www.glockenklang.com/en/products/products_bass.htm (all Bass products)
16. Cai - thanks for the bump. It IS a nice bass (something of a bargain for the ££)... You didn't mention details re. 'trade' (not really the best option for me currently, but always interested in something different/unusual .. or just 'nice' really !)
17. This is an early Vigier Arpege which, when first purchased, required some attention. The main (aesthetic) issues were: (1)There was a patch of paint missing between the pickups. It apparently came off when a Perspex block that had been added by a previous owner was removed. This patch had been painted in but it was very obvious. I have removed all paint (new & original) from this area between the pickups and have taken the bass back to its natural woods. This has been oiled & waxed. (2) A scratchplate was added to cover this up. This was subsequently removed and the screw holes were unsightly. These have been filled (but are still evident, as can be seen in the photos) Other than that, the body has signs of normal wear and tear which are not quite so obvious. (3) a previous owner attempted to replace the electronics with a more traditional/minimal set-up. This sadly did not work: only one pickup was working and the volume, tone (etc.) very limited. With great help (parts and technical) from both Ped and Patrice Vigier (.. thanks guys...), I have replaced the electrics with a modern Vigier Arpege pre-amp plus fitted the correct (matching) knobs. The actual pickups are fine - high quality Vigier single coils. The EQ system is now the correct 6+6 tone settings (using the 2-way switch) as befitting a Vigier Arpege. The machine heads are brand new Schaller’s. The Bridge is also Schaller, fitted as a replacement for the original Vigier (onto the Vigier bridge baseplate). This works well and the action is low/true. The frets are quite low and appear to have had a couple of dressings in their life. The bass is very 'playable' (effortless) due to the low action. The age is indicated by the fact that it has a phenolic fingerboard with a gold (coloured) metal plate running beneath it for the whole length of the neck. The overall condition slightly reflects the age of the bass, although it now in a much better condition than when I bought it.This now constitutes a decent Vigier Arpege bass: still quite a few 'issues' when compared to a new model .. although the price reflects this. The (added) scratchplate (which I have reshaped/refined slightly) covers the hole that some idiot cut into the top of the bass. I have also ensured that all scratchplate holes have screws fitted, so that it is now stable/solid. The bridge is not Vigier, but works well. The 'natural' section between the pickups is much better than the previous, untidy mess .. but is not 'perfect': it just seemed the easiest way to tidy the instrument. The bass does now have two active Vigier pickups AND the correct EQ etc. It plays really nicely and sounds right. The nut may require replacement in the future (but the zero-fret makes this issue less crucial). It's a players bass (rather than a Vigier Collector's bass). Came to me without a case. Could possibly find a reasonable gig-bag or case at cost price (if required). I've included a couple of photos to show the bass prior to the substantial refurb' £ - SOLD !!! (inclusive of UK delivery)
18. Thanks for the comment/bump fifeq: good to hear that somebody else out there has experienced the quality of these currently quite rare (in the UK) basses...
19. Hi Stuart Delighted to hear that the bass arrived safely (following the DHL 'hiccup') and moreso that you are pleased with it !! It's now (still) a BB(75)-bass !.. formerly 'Bunny Brunel' and now 'BassBunny' Cheers David
