1. Thanks Ped - nice summary of the bass (currently) and its history + some nice photos - hopefully, this might find a new owner whilst I'm away: would have been a nice & unique fiver to keep, but not possible. I'll try to find photos of the original bass and post them asap. Should add, for those that might wonder, that the original idea was to replace the broken truss-rod, but the thru-neck was also warped and the only remedy was to replace with a bolt-on. There was a lot of work to be done: the original finish was tricky to remove/balance and the neck re-fit involved a lot of additional/one-off routing (including accomodating the J-pickup into the extended Marleaux neck) - I think the photos reveal what an excellent job they made of this! Some specs: 34.5" scale (with zero-fret), 1.75" Nut, string spacing is 9mm (Nut), 16mm (24th fret) & 19mm (bridge). I forgot to note the weight but recall that it's very light at 8.25 - 8.5 lbs.
2. last Bump, for a while...
3. Wenge is the 'way-to-go' ... believe me (...LOL !!). I'd agree with the more constructive comments above re. the wood/sound nature (and certainly would never disagree with MTobias !) - but just wanted to add that the Wenge on the Valenti is a closer grained variety than I've seen on many Warwicks and is nice & smooth (much faster than a finished neck.. not as fast as a 60/70's vintage / worn maple!). Also, if A-D's pickup(s) - influence is correct, which I'm sure it is to some degree, then the Valenti's layout: 1-Volume w/p/p for preamp bypass 2-Blend 3-Treble w/p/p for Neck position P/U for Humbucker mode to Single Coil mode 4-Mids with w/p/p for Mid Shift 5-Bass w/p/p for Bridge position P/U for Humbucker mode to Single Coil mode .. does help counter the woods/pickups dichotomy. Hope this helps (.. without prejudice)
4. Based my Vote on the ones you listed to avoid clouding or complicating the issue. I would go for the Marleaux - I've used their basses for years and have always found them to be exceptional in terms of build quality, feel and sound. Small Company,so they have excellent follow-up (although virtually nothing has gone wrong with them). Is the photo model still available - I thought this was something produced only for a short time which had been dropped (.. although they would probably build one if you really wanted it).
5. Thanks for the positive comment(s) BW .. shall I check the organ donation websites and see if we can arrange a three-way deal?.....
6. Hi Nik Thanks for the enquiry... Unfortunately I don't have soundclips (or the facility for such) but there is somebody on the Forum (?..) who owns a couple or more Valenti's who might be able to help... Re. the Wenge neck: if you have access to a Warwick then these are mostly wenge, I think (thought many tend to be a bit big/deep in terms of profile). MTD's also use them a fair bit.. but might be a lot more tricky to find/try one of these (!). The neck has a satin finish which is very quick and much better than the Fender-5 'finished' necks (although the profile is similar - between an J and a P; not as slim/shallow as a J4 neck .. a more rounded/flattened 'C' shape). The wenge provides a fuller-bodied tone than the all-maple, with greater warmth: but the slap tone is very clear and bright, plus the very comprehensive EQ and special pickups (with HB/SC choice) make for a wide tonal range. Build quality on the bass is very high( as you'd expect from somebody working with/for Sadowsky). Hope this helps...
Hi, Do have you any soundclips of the bass? I'm looking for another 5, but don't know anything about wenge necks...Does it make a big difference tonally? And to the feel playing-wise. Nik
7. ... hadn't thought about that, but don't have time to pursue now (!) .... Anyway, ebay listing unsuccesful (mainly because I forgot to add it !) .. if anybody can do £50 (collected) before the end of the month (... whilst I'm still here) then I'll take it.

14. Agree John - just had a quick look and this guy currently has 27 items up on ebay with many 'top' basses & guitars with 24H listing (and no Reserve), including: 77 Strat.: 75 Jazz; 75 P; 67 EBO; LP Custom; 75 Strat; 73 4001; Modulus Q4; 3 saxes; assorted computer parts and 'wire'(?). Always check the Feedback: ALL within the month of July 2007 and 19/20 have come from 'Private' Auctions (so item details are not available!) which seems a bit strange and way above the average of Private Listings on ebay. Not sure how it's done and whether it's a full scam or stolen ebay-ID. The prices are currently ridiculously low - but if enough people are drawn-in he could make a massive killing in one day. I would guess that each of the ones listed above might go for £1k each, so that's £8k just on the guitars/basses. Could be I'm wrong, but it looks 'too good to be true'....
