1. .. with no apparent BC interest in anything Xotic, let's move a bit closer to home - Devon. This is a Devon Diamond-J(azz) fretted 5. The top is made from burled Willow (very rare stuff) which was aged for a couple of years and the combined with a body core of nicely grained swamp ash. The neck blank that the neck is made from was originally glued up in 1994 - so it's very old, well-settled and won't warp at all! It's a very impressive (and beautiful) neck of Wenge, Cocobolo, Purpleheart and Maple). Weighs in at around 7.5 pounds!! Sounds incredible and is the most comfortable 'Jazz-5' I've tried, with exceptional playability. Great tonal options, with the passive tone of the Villex pick-ups plus the 18v. pre which is very responsive. Acoustically the bass is very resonant and sounds very articulate when unplugged. The B string is very defined. It's in excellent overall condition (as per the photos) Specs: 5 string Swamp ash body, walnut laminate, burled/flamed willow top 13 pc. (or 7pc.) neck, wenge/maple/bocote/purpleheart/bloodwood (not sure as both are offered and, whilst there are 13 'sections', 6 of these are thin maple 'stringers') 35" scale, 19mm string spacing, wenge fretboard Pick-ups: Villex SB's (EMG 45 size) Pre-Amp: Low End/Benavente 2 band Knob layout: Volume / Volume / Passive-Tone / Treble / Bass Switches: Mid. Shift / active-passive / mute Bridge: Hipshot Style "A" Ultralite Tuners String though body option Bocote String tree Matching cavity covers (held in place with magnets!... No need for hex.key or rounded-screws!!) Natural Wax finish Quality Gig bag: RoadRunner. I could change this a a decent/new hardcase (currently 'spare') but the RR gig-bag is one I've not seen before: semi-solid construction with thick internal cushioning. Also has a detachable carry-bag/pocket (4x chrome clips) which is really useful. I'd not be offfering this but have recently sold my Devon 5 Fretless and, whilst I'm still currently advertising it (them), might be reconsidering defretting one of my Xotic 5's. And the usual need for Xmas funds, of course. Overall it's excellent - just a few minor marks. £1450 incl.
2. Thanks chaps for some very supportive and helpful comments ... all I need now, is a buyer. Still available!
3. Classic Ampeg sound .. fairly clean (cf. the original valve version) but not like the new., transparent Combo's & systems. The amp is incedibly versatile and well thought-out for its age (see the specs, above, with the various pull/switches), and the 15" gives you the thump/bottom that's hard to get with the 10's and 12's. Of course, eithr bit can be sued individually, and it's also easy(ier) to add speakers etc. (as the inbuilt speaker isn't internally wired to the head - it requires a lead).
4. BUMP / Offers (based on listed price). ... I did have one PM/offer but it seems to have been mis-deleted. Could that BC'er pls. contact again (sorry!!!).
5. Photos show both plus some new photos of the Quilt/burst bass (for detailed photos of the Bocote/natural, check back to the original post)
6. Now Confirmed as Sold / Traded ... Gone !!
7. Agree - it's totally unique and I probably enjoyed 'playing' with this one more than the others I tried and eventually used. The range and scope of sounds is remarkable and it handles bass really well. I'm tempted to keep it, but it's pontless it sitting in its box for 99% the time.
8. Send a PM with details and I'll see if I can estimate the postage online. That's the quickest sale I've ever made !!
9. Nice shiny book + CD (audio - about 1h.12m with lots of exercises etc.). 13. Thanks Paul/BOD2 for these pointers (and a comprehensive outline B'2 - which I'll definitely follow through when I can spare an hour or two). Much appreciated !!!!
14. ®ebay'ed. 2 decent modules, with a range of good/useable tones/FX. PLus lots more that are fun, but not generally applicable to a band situ.
15. Both instruments now SOLD and gone !!
16. Thanks guys for +++ Commments (and associated BUMP's) ... taking offers on this / collection much preferred !!
17. OK - I'm attaching some photos here (of the diagram of what I've tried and am continuing trying to do... plus the current wiring connections) in the hope that someone will be able to advise as to what's wrong / needed. Bass was acquired as a project: it had (has) 3x J pickups linked - originally - to a single Volume (only)! Strange-but-true. PLayed OK, but sound/options were so limited (ie. one-only!). SO ... I decided, using the attached SD diagram, to add a tone pot + 3x mini-switches (of the correct 'spdt' specification) so that (I thought) 1/2/3 pckups could be on or off, and tone varied. Good idea ?!? Despite working very carefully (the mini toggles are sods to work with!) following the diagram, I now have the following: the bass plays and the volume still works. But the tone (which has zero effect when turned right down/off) seems to gradually reduce the volume and introduce hum when increased; the mini togles do nothing (well, they are 'on' in both directions). Help !! ?? !!!
18. Barcus Berry is now SOLD !! Other two are curently on ebay, so if you were considering - need to PM before end of this week.
19. Devon's currently on-hold/pending !!
20. Still haven't got around to ebaying these .. a final BUMP b4 doing so .....................
21. Impeccable Ampeg quality & engineering! Cool little Flip Top Bass Combo. With the Transistor Head flipped and attached to the top, this has 100 Watts RMS) of Output and 1x15" Speaker. I've owned this versatile amp for a while and it really is fantastic: super loud, a massive range of tones and awesome retro looks/concept. Ampeg B15-Ts were introduced in the early 90s as a limited edition transistor version of the much-sought-after valve flip-tops they produced in the 60s/70s. These are hard to come by now and, unfortunately I need to let mine go. It has been moderately gigged and there are a few minimal scuffs as you'd expect (see the pics) but these don't detract from the overall cosmetics and generally excellent condition. Recently serviced by a technician so it is in tip-top working condition. The unit is pretty heavy (but it does have a decent set of castors) so collection might be best if not-too-distant. But I can package if required. The original castors are not currently fitted (as in some of the photos) but are located inside the cab, along with the original aluminium post, which allows the unit to be to tilted back. Specs: Imput @ 0db or -15db; EQ= Gain, Low (with Pull/Ultra-Low), Low-Mid (P/shift), High-Mid (P/shift), High (P/Ultra High); FX Loop (in/out); Master Vol (Pull/Limiter), Balanced Line-Out Level; Ground Polarity Switch (+ 0 -). Top Diagram (see Photos). Rear Panel: Speaker Out w. On / Mute 100RMS @ 4ohms; Bal. Line Output, Headphones socket, Power Amp Imput, Pre-Amp Output. Becoming very rare now (I think?) ..
22. .. some interest (after the customary ebay failure - why do these multitudes of Window-Watchers get-up ones hopes?.. and elsewhere!!) ... but nothing confirmed as yet. Couple of useful Reviews (both very positive):- http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...6+Fretless/10/1 http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews.../Diamond+D/10/1 .. and relevant: both are fretless basses (one 5, one 6), and this bass is a combination of the Grace + Diamond-D concepts/features: with the Grace body, headstock and 24F neck matched to the Diamond-D MM+J pickups and more extensive EQ/controls (can be checked-ou on the Devon website).
