If this was a 5 stringer mate I'd have it off of you ages ago!
... don't think they did the dlx/USA version as a 5, unfortunately, but there was a 5 Zone on the later/cheaper (MIM, I think) versions; no longer produced (again, I think) but might find a used one somewhere....
I really cant believe that this bass is still for sale, at this unbelievable price! It cost me £1,000 more than this last year from Bassdirect, and is quite the most superb 5 string I have ever played. If I could play 5 string, I would still have it! Bob
Agree 100% Bob ... if I hadn't retrieved my Kinal 5 I'd be keeping the Roscoe ! I thought the price was very attractive (certainly for somebody contemplating a new Roscoe LG3005 - perhaps nobody is/was doing so) but the PM's/offers to date have been pushing for another 20% reduction, which isn't acceptable (to me). I think Dan would also have kept the Roscoe if he'd managed the conversion from 4 to 5 ! Thanks for the bump/+++ comments.
ive played one of these and they are smokin..not custom shop though,as you prob know anyway...although there were only out for a ltd period...as close as CS as you can get.....lovely lovely bass..ave a bump
Thanks Andrew ... I wasn't sure re. the Custom Shop reference (as I'm not sure how the CS works in relation to std. USA Fender/s ?) .. but it's the only Fender build level (i.e. top-notch / 0-issues) I had to compare. Here's what they (Fender) had to say about it at the time:- "This is a very ambitious step for Fender basses," says Richard McDonald, vice president of electric guitars for Fender. "We’ve put a great deal of effort over the past few years in finding out exactly what players want in a contemporary bass. What we’ve come up with is this new line of Zone basses, and we are very proud of the results." The American Deluxe Zone Bass is one of Fender’s first ventures into the realm of exotic wood basses, offering a choice of either a highly figured maple top over alder, or a walnut top over mahogany. Engineers in Fender’s Research and Development have spent the last two years designing an entirely new electronic platform to match and maximize the tonal characteristics of each of the options, including new hum canceling pickups designed to increase the low frequency response and extend the upper frequency range. Both neck and bridge pickups are designed with ferrous steel pole pieces contained within the core of each bobbin. They are driven with low-profile, wide area ceramic magnets located at the base of each pickup, with the ceramic magnets offering optimal strength and excellent string transfer characteristics that result in incredible clarity and articulation. The unique sonic nature of the exotic woods and their body mass require electronics that can bring the most out of these instruments. To accommodate this, the new American Deluxe Bass circuit is tweaked at the input stage - pre-shape, boost and EQ settings - to match and compliment the instrument’s characteristics. The Bass frequencies are centered at 40Hz± 12db with a 4db per octave slope, while the Treble is centered at 8 kHz± 10db with a 2db per octave slope, with the Treble cut working as a more passive control for warm, organic tones. The Mid control is centered at 500Hz± 10db and -15db, with a wide-band slope to bring out the growl and new distinctive voices of the electronics. The circuit is powered by a new 18 Volt supply. The bridge on the American Deluxe Zone Bass is deluxe chrome plated steel. The maple neck is C-shaped has a 34" scale, 9.5" radius with a rosewood fingerboard and 22 frets. This bass is made at Fender’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Corona, California
Wow, I have to admit that I like it !
merci beaucoup ! .... it's actually worth checking out some of the USA/ebay description (in Bold-Red type, for some reason) as it provides some background to the concept & development of the Zone bass :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Fender USA Deluxe Zone Bass - possibly one for the collector (I was hoping to keep it as such for myself, but can't really afford to do so) or somebody looking for an exotic, rare, USA, active Fender P / J ('ish) ...?? The Fender Zone was introduced in 2001 for a very limited period/run. It has a slightly lighter and smaller body than standard Fender basses. The American Deluxe Zone Bass features Fender's Special Design humbucking/soapbar pickups, powered by an 18V active 3-band preamp 18-volt power supply (2x 9V. Batteries) and unique circuitry designed to enhance the instrument’s natural sound and tonal range. It has a sleek(er) 'P' design and stunning multi-laminate construction - crafted with layers of exotic tone woods—maple/walnut/alder, and features a lightweight downsized body, abalone inlays and a sculpted heel, with Rosewood fret board and mother of pearl fret markers. No Scratches marks or dings. Immaculate condition. Dual Humbuckers, Gold plated hardware, original C& G vintage brown leather case made in USA. Also Includes: Labels and Tags, Fender truss rod key. genuine Fender strap, owner’s manual, original fender guitar lead and spare gold plated hardware. There's one currently on ebay - it's one of the less attractive (?) and darker sounding walnut versions. And it's certainly not mint. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT This is just like a new bass, and has the nicest example of Flame top/back I've seen. They were originally c. £1700 - the build quality suggests that they might have been built in the custom shop...

Yamaha Nathan East signature 5 strings bass - FABULOUS !!

.. this might give some ide of the price expected - it's got to be the same bass (same description etc.) :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-Nathan-East-B...=item4cf055553c -
Ashdown Perfect 10 Mini-Rig. Anybody who's used one can tell you just how good they sound. Perfect for rehearsal or recording. Used in the home and little beyond that. Not gigged, and never run to peak volumes. As such it sounds as good today as when first purchased. Excellent/mint all round condition. It has the best tone I've ever heard from any such small/practice amp and looks better than any other similar combo or practice unit. It can hold it's own in the studio and in small gigs. If you're playing a bigger gig, you need only use the line out. Amp(Head) is 65W RMS (120W Peak) and the two 10" speaker cabs are rated at 60W. Controls for the three band EQ, gain and volume, as well as Ashdown's special 'Deep' function. Adding the looks is the obligatory Ashdown illuminated-red VU meter. Becoming hard(er) to find - particulary in such new condition.

Fender (USA) Vintage 75 Re-issue. Details (Specs.) can be found on the USA/UK Fender website and the various online outlets (GAK etc.) who sell this bass. As you can see from the photos, this is in excellent (near-new) condition. Only flaws are that the lacquer has chipped where the bridge pickup (screws) were fixed (maybe over-tightened) and some fine/superficial wear on the neck pickup cover But it's an excellent example and by far the lighest I've tried at about 8lbs !! It's 99/00 but could easily pass for this year (!). OHSC and most if not all of the 'extras' are there (even the rubber strip, mounted beneath the bridge cover !)
Looks like the E-bay listing has been removed....
Thanks Y' - that's odd (as it's not so old) Let's try this (.. if it's correct I'll change the OP) :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT -
6 string Fretless. Huddersfield area. Unique (Humanbase.de) instrument
eubassix replied to eubassix's topic in Bass Guitars
Here's what the current owner has had to say recently (via email to Michael) :- Your friend 'eubassix' did a little write up on the website 'basschat.co.uk' saying that my bass was 'one to watch' and explaining that i hadnt realised what i was selling and was now trying to cash in because i had very little interest on e-bay and putting my e-bay pictures on(illegaly) and saying i lived in the huddersfield area and even giving my name!! That was a dirty trick, trying to stop me re-advertising and making me out to be some sort of criminal because i had the good fortune to stumble across a bargain all those years ago in what looked like a very respectable shop where i paid good money for damage repaired goods,as far as no interest is concerned there were 74 watchers which if you know anything about e-bay is a massive amount, sure the bidding was very small but there were still over two days to go and its common place to have very few bids with this amount of time to go and the majority of bids are always in the last few minutes, your friend failed to mention this in his one sided write up,we were communicating perfectly well and you do a stupid thing like that to try and stop me advertising it or to sell it you cheaply, what you keep forgetting here is that its my bass,i bought it,i legally own it and have done for over ten years and can do what the hell i want with it,many thanks, michael (O'Mally) What Mr. O'Mally fails to mention is that, whilst he ended the ebay auction on 3rd. June (stating that he had not realised that he might need to offer overseas shipping - and that it would be relisted soon; which is has not, of course) and was intially quite helpful with Michael (Harmssen) .. he has - I think and for the past 18 days - changed his attitude entirely and (now that he knows what the bass is - I'm quite certain he had absolutley no idea when he first listed it on ebay) sees the opportunity to ignore Michael (H/Germany) and to sell for a high(er) price. Seems the bass was stolen in Frankfurt and then sold-on to-and-from a shop there, at well below market value. -
I had this listed in the 'Bass Guitar' section:_ http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=91379&hl= ..... but thought it best to duplicate here - as there have been developments and the current owner seems to be aware of this being mentioned on BC (see below: post #2) ..."Here's one to watch out for in the Huddersfield area - although it might appear again nationally (ebay etc.) I'm trying to recover this for a friend/player in Germany (Michael Harmssen - quite a player, who has toured with the likes of Billy Cobham). I don't think the current owner was aware (initially) that this was a stolen bass (c. 1999) when it was first advertised on ebay (details/links below) but once he was made aware (by Michael) he seems to have removed it from ebay (where it wasn't attracting much interest or bids - had only gone up to <£50.) and now seems intent on 'advertising it on the open market for a fair price' (... of course, now he knows what it IS, and that its a handmade Siggi Jaeger instrument!!). Current owner is a Michael O'Mally, based in the Huddersfield area (ebay listing). Michael (H) didn't expect much could be done about the stolen aspect and wasn't expecting it back for free - but wished to pay something reasonable to get his bass back .. but also volunteered too much information (I think). It's also difficult to know where this might appear (shop/s, gumtree, ebay etc etc.) .. but if you're in the area (probably from Manchester to Leeds-Bradford, Sheffield etc.) and see it, then post here or (better) drop me a PM. Photos and ebay listing:- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT German custom made six string fretless bass guitar, one of a kind,l bought this in a music shop in frankfurt germany around ten years ago,i'm almost sure the neck is made of maple as i think most guitar necks are and maybe the body too but not 100% sure on either but it is quite heavy and maple is quite heavy stuff! Is in overall good condition with 2 or 3 minor minor chips on the body and a few tiny scratches which would be expected on a guitar of this age but hardly noticable really. Although the guitar is passive it has a built in battery compartment if an active circuitry were required,i believe these cost around £25 but sounds perfectly well as a passive instrument. When i bought it,it had been repaired on the top of the neck where a small gap had appeared (see picture 4) but this was professionaly repaired with epoxy resin when i bought it and is still solid today.Has the serial number 012 at the very top of the neck, not sure if this means anything to anyone or not. Sounds really nice and plays very we'll too but sadly surplus to requirements so may as well go to a good home, has never been gigged and has only ever done a few studio sessions and is sold with no reserve and comes with an option to buy a soft case in good condition for an extra £15 on top of final list price if needed, cash on collection or paypal accepted, happy bidding. On 03-Jun-10 at 15:42:38 BST, seller added the following information: Have had a very interesting e mail from germany, the guitar is aparently made by world famous siggi jaeger of the company 'human bass' instruments have been told that the 'nose' shape on the back of the neck (see picture four) is exclusive to his design, dousnt have any name on it so not too sure about this but it sounds genuine enough and looks remarkably like some of his that are on the net.
You're right, my post says that but just after sale was finalised I was cleaning the bass and popped the pickup covers to see they were EMGs and then informed the buyer via PM. I was amazed that they sounded so good to be honest and gave me huge respect for passive EMGs. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, just letting you know incase someone buys it on ebay and wants a refund because they thought different pickups were in it.
No problem / appreciate the info. (update) - I'll amend the info here and on ebay if/when relisted.
