1. J.D. V. PARIS BASS - Piccolo 4 Short Scale Stunning short scale bass is a masterpiece from German luthier Johannes-Dieter von Paris (based in Göttingen) - when with 'Schack' - for the Frankfurt MusikMesse (2002). It demonstrates JD's masterful combination of top quality tone woods and the sound/playability is exceptional. The electronics feature 2 toggle switches that allow a choice between single coil and humbucking mode (zero noise issues - both modes). The 3-band electronics can be modified by flicking the internal controls (see pic.) to pre select the frequency of each of the 3 tone controls. The bass knob may be preselected within 100-300Hz. The mid tone knob can be preset between 400 and 1500 Hz, and the high frequencies range from 2 to 8 KHz. This extends the tone controls to a semi-parametric 3-way on board preamplifier. Deep growling mids, extreme punch, crystal clear top and crisp slap sound are just a few of the capabilities. There is a veneer of rosewood between the beautiful flamed maple neck + GonzaloAlves fingerboard and it's thru-body construction. The wooden truss-rod cover plate is engraved with the JDvP logo. The ETS tuning fork Bridge is a 3-dimensional string-through (option) version. The playability of this bass is incredible. It is joy and effortless to play - fast neck, shorter scale and amazing fretboard Specs: • High gloss nitro' lacquer finish • Thru-neck, flamed maple w/ inner rosewood veneer, 30.75" scale. • GoncaloAlves fingerboard, 24 frets, with rosewood veneer • Body wings 2-piece sandwich maple with flamed ash • Center block 3 piece ash/rosewood • 2 x Bass Tech Soapbar Humbuckers • 18V Andy Schack Electronics with Bass, Mid, High Tone controls (pre-selectable centre frequencies) • 2 PU single coil/humbucking mode toggle switches • Black Gotoh tuners, ETS 3D Tuning Fork Bridge • Weight: 6.4 lbs / 2.78 kg (!) Comes with a short-scale gig-bag (with good protection/cushioning) The condition is near mint. Only minor flaws are on the back on the electronics cover and near thru-body string holes, plus a slightly stiff pan-knob. Link to same instrument in Bass-Porn:- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=79737&hl=JDvP The links (there) are no longer working: apparently Johannes (DvP) might be returning to work with Andy Schacks’s new bass venture. Original price was €3400 (with similar/later basses going for €4000) – realise this is something of a special(ist) instrument (will probably give this a go on TalkBass) / SOLD

 3. Tanglewood Tennessee TJ-1/43 from the early 90's (hoping I can attach a brochure page from the era, below). Flame maple top on a basswood body, mahogany neck, Vintage Pearl machine-heads, 2x Humbucker pickups, some pretty nice (and not too tarnished Gold hardware). Translucent Red finish. This was a flagship instrument in the early 90's, when it cost about £400. In excellent condition .. and great for doing the George Benson thing/stuff. Comes with an OK semi-ac. gig-bag. £SOLD (incl./Courier)
 4. Looking to trim the Collection and complete/clear some projects ... it's getting out-of-hand (again) and need to make room for something(s) new (details to follow in the Porn section, if things work-out).... Modulus VJ4 bass (USA) with upgrade (and very high quality) Quilt maple top and Bartolini pickups/2EQ. Fiished in a very tasty caramel-translucent. Neck (composite - it's a Modulus) has a truss rod but has never needed adjustment. Looks and feels like a Jazz (c. 9.5 lbs) but with a much greater spectrum of sound(s). Excellent for slap / M.King stuff but can also be(come) much more mellow. Bass itself is in excellent condition (few, minor/superficial marks - nothing obvious or serious) and plays just as good as it looks. There is one small finish chip on the neck between frets 4-5. Original case - one corner has been damaged/repaired, but is pretty strong/sound. SOLD(traded)
 5.
What are the Peavey's like?
Excellent - these are the 'Thermalfused' Xtra Longs that they fit to new/high-end PV instruments. 12. Clearing more (unused now) stuff ... Maestro (brand) electro-acoustic Mandolin: 8-string (4 pairs). Arch (bowl?) top and back with burst finish. Plays OK (I'm told) - action and electronics both fine. There's a few small dings or chips in various places (nothing major) .. but also a 'crease' between the lower part of the F-holes (about 1" below the bridge and 1/2" above the Vol. control) as somebody (not me!) tried to fit the bridge without first checking the correct location i.e. above the support brace (between the centre of the F-holes). I've used the original bridge with some maple veneer strips to get the correct height, which seems to work fine (and with no reduction in volume). The 'crease' has remained stable for months/years I did also buy a (correct) adjustable, arched bridge (ebony) but found that this requires work (reduction of the feet/arch) to be workable. I'll add a photo here and is available @ £10
 13. Clearing some 'family' stuff which is no longer used... Tanglewood TW 28 ST USA • Solid American spruce top in gloss finish • Multiple bound top, tapered body • Mahogany back and sides, matt • Mahogany neck, matt • Oval shaped fingerboard • Nickel silver frets • Compensating saddle • Grover style die-cast machine heads with stepped tuning buttons iirc was £149 but without the gig-bag (which is included) Good tone, action. For some, might require slight lowering of nut. Excellent condition. £sold
 14. On HOLD - payment pending 1/9
 15.
Shame the spalted isn't the same as the USA... I can always bide my time till the USA comes around!
.. would be nice; but there's about a 4x price differential (!) / ... don't hold your breath ! ...
 16.
Are you due any 'Coast' trips soon Dave?
... might be, John, although the kids have outgrown the delights of Alnwick Castle (... saving us a fortune in the process, thank goodness!). I'll PM/call if we're heading into Northumberland (Belsay's a possible) at all. The USA Fly's probably a perfect weight for you, but this one's 9lb+ ...
