    I'm preparing for a session recording a guitarist. I thought he had an SM57 and we'd use that, but it turns out it's an SM58. I know that the SM57 is the "classic" mic for this application. At the moment my modest setup only has a Rode NT1A condenser mic, so a dynamic mic would be a useful addition, but before I rush out and buy an SM57 I thought I'd pick your brains about the relative merits of the SM57 v SM58 for recording amps...

    Update: just did a test recording and it worked, hooray! Guitar -> MXR bass di+ -> parallel output -> guitar amp -> mic -> interface plus balanced output from di+ -> interface I didn't even have to provide any power to the MXR Thanks for the input!
