2.
I am told that he expects a bid in the high hundreds or something over a thousand quid for this.

And when does he expect this bid?

After a sudden wave of localised hyperinflation reduces the Pound Stirling to about the same value as the late Italian Lire.
A thousand pennies, maybe?
 3.
(if I’m wrong in the terminology, what I mean is moving to the same fret position but one string down, eg C on the A string to G on the E string).

That's actually a 5th.
Nope, it's a fourth.
Playing with a pick.
Yep. I started off playing with a pick, moved to fingerstyle, and now I can't play with a pick any more!
 4.
What is a "Slebs"?
C'lebrities!
 5.
Where are you based? Perhaps a fellow basschatter can come with you. There are plenty of people on here who would be happy to do that for you.
Happy to go into a shop and try out a load of basses? With our reputation? What are you thinking?
 6.
Harry Shearer
That doesn't count, Harry Shearer is a fictional character. (Played by Derek Smalls.)
 7.
And a video was made... I look grumpy because I'm reading so head down.. She is dynamite though! https://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be
Nice work all round! Although I nearly had to stop the video when I saw the music stand....
 8.
Not quite what you're asking, but...if I were in your shoes I'd be all over the Yamaha BB424x in the For Sale section.
Is that still there? In which case, yes, absolutely. Yamaha is one of those "can't go wrong with a...." and "a lot of bass for £..." brands. And if you don't get on with it you'll easily get your money back selling it here.
 9.
Johnny Depp was a musician in South Florida long before he went to L.A. and became an actor.
He often used to stand in when a band's regular player wasn't available.... #coat
 10. Sweet! So does the eBay seller just step in for those who aren't near/can't bear to visit an IKEA? Good idea!
 11. Very nice! Edit: while wondering what that weight was in kg, I stumbled upon this: http://cooking.stackexchange.com/questions/19925/how-long-should-i-slow-roast-a-large-7-5lb-3-5kg-chicken-for. So now you know how to roast it too!
 12. He doesn't just play the bass... he also plays a *proper* instrument: http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_8740000/newsid_8745200/8745244.stm
 13. Does he play tunes by Queen and Prince?
 14.
It's down to taste innit?
Yes...
I love sunburst!
...and you ain't got any! #IMO etc
 15.
Does Antigua count as a burst for this thread?
I have an Antigua Strat, which I think looks nice. Which is just as well, as it's far too heavy to pick up and play I also used have a tasty tobacco Aria LP copy. I don't think I've ever had a 'burst' bass though...
 16.
Probably 11/8
17.
For me it raises many worrying issues as well as a grin. I'm guessing that the guy can't fart in tune on a regular basis and that this is a random 'lucky' fart that is vaguely musical. But how do you come to the point when that random 'lucky' fart gets recorded? Does the guy routinely record his farts and listen to them? Select the best then upload it onto YouTube. Without giving away too much personal information, if i recorded all my farts there'd be quite a bit of material to sift through. It implies a level of dedication I am not prepared to give. I think we should be told.
I'd wondered that too. Did he book a studio session and prepare by eating beans washed down with cabbage water, etc., a la Jonny Fartpants?
 18. Very good. The tune sounds familiar.... something by Butthoven or maybe Mozfart?
 19. Did the session yesterday, and the MXR was transparent Mic-ed up a crunchy Marshall stack, and I've currently just slapped a Sansamp plugin preset on the parallel DI track while I edit... nice!
 20. I had a pair of D190Es "back in the day" when I had a Fostex X-15! Pretty much everything (except a big box of cables) got moved on when I took a long break from music. Anyway... I did buy an SM57, and used it yesterday to record a mighty Marshall. Tried a couple of positions, went for 1" from the grille right over the centre of the cone. Nice!
 21.
OK, clever clogs, you search the web for country-shaped basses and let's see what you come up with in 5 minutes..! I'd add that it's not a bass, either..! Well, really..! Some people..! Can't even post a light-hearted aside without someone picking over the bones of every tiny detail..! Honestly..! You'd think folks would have something better to do, no..?
Hey, I'm having a busy day.... sniping from the sidelines is all I have time for!
 22.
Which country..?
But... Africa is not a country </pedant>
 23.
The variants have been posted - but don't forget the standard Telecaster.
Don't think I've heard of that one...
 24.
use all the mics and see which sounds best on the day! there is no rule saying a 57 has to record a guitar!

this. there are no rules to microphones and mic placement. put them all up and see which sounds best.
Agreed. I was wondering if it was worth buying an SM57 as I didn't have a decent dynamic mic.... and I decided it was, so I did So we'll have the choice of the SM57, SM58 and the condenser. Also, I just found this: http://shureblog.co.uk/faq-whats-the-difference-between-the-sm58-and-the-sm57/#.VVWy5vlVhBc and this https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/55747-sm57-vs-sm58.html.
 25.
But at least it's free P and P.
Plant *and* Page?! :-D
