1.
How old is he , we just lost our drummer today :'(
29
 2. I stay in Twickenham occasionally, with my son who has lived there for a couple of years. Nice place but not found much music yet. Neither has he but to be fair he doesn't get out much due to work comitments. Shame really as he is a really good drummer. So, if any of you Twickenham guys are looking for a drummer for occasional stuff then give me a shout and I'll put you in touch.
 3.
My band are covering By The Way which is very fun on bass (I have to sing too, dammit). I may suggest some of the newer ones as they are generally popular, if a bit less intense to play.
We used to cover that when it was current. Good fun to play. I used to sing backing vox, god those harmonies go high!
 4. Used to be a massive peppers fan, not so much now but that new single sounds promising. Anyway, I am pretty sure that sometime around or just after the By The Way Tour (last time I saw them) he had started using a vintage Jazz most of the time. He may have been back to Modulus since then though for all I know.
 5.
Don't worry about that... if I thought everything through before posting I'd never post anything... I notice I've recently passed 4000 posts and at least half of that is nonsense.
LoL! I noticed after making my incorrect post that I am now classed as a "Fully fledged member". Doesn't that translate as "A feathered prick"?
 6. My bad! You are all correct. I was thinking all the drivers would be 8ohm but of course the 2x10s can't be. Serves me right for not thinking it through properly.
 7.
The amp develops 300w into 4 ohms, of which (at full tilt...) 150w will go to each cab. Both should be fine, in theory; you'll hear if there's a problem, probably. At that rate, your ears will be singing, however.
I don't think thats right. If both cabs are eight ohms and both cabs are conected in parralel then the power will be divided equally between the six drivers. So, I am guessing the drivers can take 100W each from what you have said. In that case each driver will be getting 50W from the head which would be well within the safe zone provided you are not constantly clipping the amp in an effort to make it louder. I would expect you to hear a reasonable volume increase from both the extra drivers and the extra power that that lot will create.
 8.
Yep I think it's going to be a lot of fun, some great responses here - thank you all. As I said, we are pub and bar gig veterans but our audiences tend to be 30s and upwards and fairly well behaved. Jagerbomb fuelled 19 year olds will be uncharted territory!
Hah! ours are usually jagerbomb fuelled 30 and 40 year olds.
 9. Best kind of gigs IMHO! I've had a bat in the mouth from a mic a few times, it's just part of the fun. People falling over monitors, landing on pedal boards(which usually results in random pedals being switched on or off) i all adds to the excitement!
 10. Just bought an Ampeg head and cab from Jim in really great condition and at a great price. Oh, and he's a nice guy too! Pleasure meeting/doing business with you. Cheers!
 11.
Saw Iggy Pop at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday, sublime! A top 5 gig for me for sure!
Top 2 for me, especially after I crashed my way down to the front. Some cool vids have apeared on youtube and I seem to be in most of them. Emabarrasingly, I seem to be grinning like some kind of simpleton on every one of them.
 12.
Indeed; a good point. I took all of the questions to be concerned with playing, not reading, nor even understanding.what one is playing..! I can play in any key, or no key at all. I can't play Shostakovitch with ease, though. The wording of the questions is in favour of those with academic musical skills, not just bass-playing.
Same for me. My sight reading is pretty much non existant. I answered everything from a playing perspective.
 13. Good answers all!! Yeh, nobody has spotted the mistakes yet............or at least not mentioned them. But it's bugging me now. And I think our guitarist plays it the same as me but I'm gonna check tomorrow night at band practice cos if he doesn't then we have been playing a couple of notes a semitone adrift for years without noticing. And blue, you're right I definately hear things better after years of playing. This was one of the first songs we learnt as a band around 15 years ago and I don't think I've heard the original since. casapete, in this case the original is quite a bit faster than we play it although the second old song I re-listened to is indeed quite a bit slower.
 14. Listened to a track you've been covering for years and realised you've been playing it wrong?
 15.
Next gig for me is Iggy Pop at the RAH, but our digs have fell through so may have to pull an all nighter in London and get the first train home!
Me too! So looking forward to it. Some lovely bass on that new album!!
 16.
Having spent a bit of time with both one after the other I'd say that the RD feels slightly chunkier in profile than the Ripper but that could easily be 70s manufacturing "tolerances". Nut width the same. The main difference you'll find with an RD is the whole neck is moved about half an inch along because of the relative positions of the bridge to the body end. So it feels like a bit more of a stretch when you've got the basses on the strap.
Cheers neepheid! I think I'm gonna have to try one when I get the chance.
 17. I think its something to do with geting old. I feel the same. A bass from 1990 can't be vintage.........it was only made a few short years ago...........er........wasn't it?
 18.
One bass? My Gibson RD Artist. My wife bought me it and it's an amazing, quirky bass which I love both owning and playing. There are others which would be a real gut punch to have to get rid of because of the work gone into making them what they are - Gibson Victory Artist and Ripper - both restored from states of dilapidation and my Epiphone Les Paul (not so) Standard tricked out with EMG goodness. But ultimately if I had to only keep one, it's the RD.
Aha! someone who owns a Ripper and an RD. Very jealous, and I have a question for you. My Ripper has been my main gigging bass for years now. I have tried many others but always go back to the Ripper because I just love playing on that neck but I am not really a fan of the body shape. The RDs quite apeal to me to but never having had the chance to try one I have always wondered if the neck feels anything like a Ripper neck?
 19. Eight but only really play one of them. Must start selling I think!
 20. I'll be passing through your way in a couple of weeks. If you still have it I may be tempted!
 21.
Do you know anything about how their previous Bass player approached it? Could be an idea to have a similar approach as he did, as that'll be what makes them feel most comfortable..
Unless they kicked him out for being no good.
 22. A cheap black plywood bodied Stingray copy. Bought for my son when he was thirteen so about seventeen years ago. He quickly decided to concentrate on drums so I took over the bass. That was the start of some of the best years of my life with us playing in a band together for many of them. He still has the bass now and uses it occasionally.
 23. Maybe ten years ago, the place I worked at got a delivery from the green parcel machine. In the back of the van there were packages strewn all over the floor. Driver got in to get our package while walking on top of others. Then I noticed the JCB rear bucket(google it) sitting unsecured on top of a few packets and squashed boxes(all on their way to be delivered)!!
