1. Here's mine... 1915 Gibby A1. Found it at a vintage show in Dallas many years ago. Really should play it more...
2. Fret-King do two… blue labels series Esprit 4 or green label Europa IV. http://www.fret-king.com/europaiv_spec.html
3. Rupert at http://www.bearstraps.com/ in Deptford, London will do any of his straps in custom length. They're very traditional - mostly plain one-piece, '60s short pads or buckle adjust types in black or brown, though he does sometimes do one-offs. Ultimate quality, and great prices. A 5.5cm-wide plain leather handmade strap is £24! Totally recommended.
4. Mystified by John Entwistle at No 1. Obviously a great band, obviously a steam train of a player, but compared to the soul greats... it just doesn't stack up. Mind you the Ox topped Guitar & Bass's best bassist poll of a few years ago, and that was a readers' postal vote.
5. JV '62 Jazz with the big Fender, small Squier logo. Hen's teeth. Glorious neck. £450. Hesitated. Dickhead.
6. I'm not sure Wunjo's is exempt from Denmark St disease... they sold a mate of mine a Gibson L-00 acoustic that was actually a re-badged Kalamazoo, as should have been obvious to them from the ladder bracing and lack of truss rod. In that case the money wasn't too bad, but I think it's buyer beware everywhere in the guitar market these days.
7.
No offence but you're techs a noob, what cools it is static pressure rather than cfm, and most cfm are lying anyways
Oh, I'm not offended, I couldn't tell 'static pressure' from a rolling doughnut, but I'll be sure to tell my guy he's a noob and shouldn't do stuff like this
8. Here's another of Norm's stash, currently on the 'bay... ...the highest-priced non-artist Fender I can remember seeing... http://tinyurl.com/68jyqx2
9. +1 for Roqsolid. I ordered a cover for a Barefaced Midget online last Sunday evening… come Thursday, it was at the door. Amazingly good turnaround! Though p'raps not quite as thickly padded as I'd hoped, it's really toughly made, and perfect in terms of size. I asked for the baffle board-pocket option (the cab being cloth-grilled) and was relieved that Roqsolid got it on the correct side (as noted above, the Midget has an off-centre carry-handle). Actually with a thin board inserted in place the handle opening is pulled just a few mm's off-centre… and I'd say the size of the handle opening could do with being a tad more generous anyway… but it's no problem. Overall... recommended.
10. Well, Gilmour uses Evidence Audio, and I don't think he's quoted as an endorser by them, though I might be wrong on that. His tech Phil Taylor told me they don't just freeze the instrument leads - they freeze everything in the chain, right back to the mains cables
11. Two other very well-regarded options, but not so close to you, are... http://www.simscustom.com/ (Ashford, Kent) http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/
12.
Wow. You sure do know a lot about me just from that. Presumptuous much.
Hmm. My intended gentle joshing obviously came over as sarky arsiness. Not the first time. Sorry!
13. Yes. Because you have decided to believe that ultra-thick speaker cables make a difference even over such short distances, and have already invested in some, you will hear a "difference", and you will play better, and thus attract both fame and fortune.
14.
Damn, the place with the '59 only has 2 of the buggers! Anyone want to guess a price?
No Oh, okay. I'd guess somewhere just south of $20K... Dreamboat stuff.

Bands Wanted

Strange… I heard back very quickly via the info@ email address with an invitation to call and discuss.
16. Agreed! After re-valving, my TB gives a sound I simply don't want to change. A guitarist friend whose ears I trust (full-time pro since the ’60s) came up after Sunday's gig and waxed lyrical about about my just-finalised Terror/Midget combination. "It's just so… so…" he said, waving his hands about and making vague shapes in the air, "… well, it's just so round." Result
17.
It looks like a relative of this amp; http://www.chambonino.com/work/miscguitar/misc18.html So I guess it might have been labelled Gem.
The winner! Here's a Gem Saturn B50... obviously very close... http://img1.classistatic.com/cps/bln/11051...5273ja8_23.jpeg
18.
looks like it more man but all the tuners are all on the same side of the head stock and the head stock is more fender sized, know i meeeeeeen?
Judiciously circumventing your admittedly inspiring vernacular, my final guess is an Ibanez TR50.
19. I remember a magazine interview with JJ Burnel back in the day... Journo: Why do you prefer maple-fingerboard Precision basses? JJ Burnel: Because they bounce better.
20.
Best I can do is some HTML code online that points to this post: http://uk.yakaz.com/posts/000fteplvhf4qncc...tchOr6QXzXVXVid which appears to be a cached page from ebay:
Here's the full eBay ad.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Valve-Tube-Guitar-Am...r-/300553487670 Been racking my brains on this one. Logo rings a bell... but stumped.
21. Veeery interesting. Your JV Jazz is historic. My Precisions are but a humble JV1 '57 and a JV2 '62. I didn't realise before that covers disappeared with the logo change (I seem to recall a big-Fender-small-Squier J with no cover holes - that I missed, alas - but maybe t'was an anomaly, or I'm mistaken). Pretty nuts to be talking about these when we could be discussing real '52 neck profiles but, hey, I'm just chipping in where I can PS Bad news. The excellent Mr 99ster uses the black and white Elvis pic...
22. Lovely! Thanks for posting. Those '58s... argh... Geek alert: as another brace-of-JVs person, may I inquire if yours came with bridge/pickup covers?
23. If you're looking at back-of-van use only, then there is a third way... an XL-size plastic toolbox (Stanley, etc) with hinged lid, metal clip fasteners and foldaway handles on top. Buy one (less than £25 new or haunt the local car boot), throw away the tool tray, chuck a few bits of foam inside, add some rock'n'roll stickers on the outside if you feel like it, job done. Here's my mini version , aka the Beggar's Flightcase, with Orange Terror, all cables, various spares, tuner... the box cost £11.
24. Good detective work, but not the same bass IMO... the March auction body has fan-shaped grain above the p/up cover and much more f/board wear... also it's a more impressive-looking Clive refin... pretty good price from Fat Rick at NKR...
