1. Chris repaired my Warwick Thumb 89 while I waited. Was getting a clicking noise every now and again. He narrowed it down to the encapsulated electronics and suggested it would be cheaper and easier for me to buy direct from Warwick than via himself. He gave me all the part numbers. I ordered and as I said he fitted while I waited one evening after work around 5pm ish. Couldn't be more helpful, pleasant and his cost for labour was a pittance compared to what i'm used to elsewhere. Highly recommended from me if that means anything.
2. Prefer natural bass sound but use either a Roland GT6B or TC Electronic delay & Reverb pedals for some variation when required. The Roland is mainly used for quick sound changes while using my Jazz bass I can have natural sound or set similar to a Rik via Valve amp and 15" cabs making it sound quite clicky and slightly overdriven amp and speakers or just a basic Ampeg SVT. Don't generally use it for much more than that.
3. [sup]Mates tribute band Ledd Zepp in Lanark Memorial Hall. Great gig , great night.[/sup]
4. Used the Zoom HD and it works pretty well. Got mine new from Soundslive in Newcastle for £70 but think they have been bought over by someone ?
5. Front and Centre where all good bass players should be LOL
6. Not sure price wise and i'm not a huge fan of them but Hartke HA3500 or bigger amps might suit you. I'm currently using a Markbass combo and like the warmer sound. Other options might be Gallien Krueger amps altho they can be a bit clinical. My fav amp is my Ampeg SVT4Pro with Bergantino HT322 which is the dogs bollocks but daft money even 2nd hand. Had a Warwick amp which was pretty good and they can be picked up 2nd hand at pretty reasonable prices. Not as clinical as GK amps and you do get valve pre-amp versions as well as transistor output versions. Also had a Genz Benz Streamliner 600 which had valve pre-amp and had a nice warm feel to it and lightweight too. Worth a look. Hope that little lot helps. Dave
7. Fender Jazz into Roland pre-amp cross-over into 2off Matamp power amps into 2x15" cab & 2x10" cab.
8. Warwick Sweat shirt from 1989 after I had to return my Thumb bass to Germany because of an electronic fault. That and a box full of other goodies like strings and things.
9. Walked out of Whitesnake at Glasgow Apollo back in early 80's sound was terrible few rows from front at Bernie Marsden side. Also walked out of Peter Gabriel in early 80's too but that was because I wasn't really into it and only went because my mates persuaded me to go.
10.
Rush in Glasgow on the Clockwork Angels tour. Horrendously bad sound mix where I was sitting. This was surprising as I was a few rows directly behind the sound desk! All I could hear was drums and keyboards. I know Alex Lifeson was playing guitar as I could see it on the video screens, but I couldn't hear him or Geddy! I left after about 5 songs. On leaving the hall, the guys checking the tickets said, "don't blame you mate". Hahaha. Real shame, as I love the band.
I was at the gig too further back from you behind desk and thought it sounded ok. Never a great venue for sound anyways but I could hear everything being played. Think you must have been a bit unlucky there.
11. [sub]Buckie is just along from Inverness. This should not be an issue for any courier service. Its normally an issue if its to go to the Islands because of ferry costs but not Moray Firth about an hour (50miles) east of Inverness along the A96. They are taking the piss and should be reported to someone for this crap.[/sub]
12.
I'm in Ayrshire, would certainly be up for a Scottish bass bash.

Woo a fellow Ayrshire tattie!
Are you both related then ? sorry couldnae resist that one
13. Few yrs ago at Harley Davidson bike rally in St Tropez I saw a French AC/DC tribute act called SCOTLAND who spoke French, sang English copying an Aussie band and the name speaks for itself. Very good band and thoroughly enjoyed and i'm not even an AC/DC fan really.
14. Seen a few really good ones recently including MacFloyd, The Jean Genie (fantastic bassist - worth a listen) and Ledd Zepp. Also Def Lepard tribute Hysteria were good and DTK are always a good Kiss tribute show.
15. Pretty sure he wrote bass line for Ms Ellis Bexter song Murder on the Dance Floor. I'm a big fan of Guy's bass playing since Delicate Sound of Thunder tour with his Spector bass solo. His book is also an interesting read.
16. Saw The Jean Genie tribute band at Lanark gig few weeks ago. The band were excellent but the bass player was absolutely astounding. Fantastic sound and technique. Nailed every song and I was able to hear all his bass runs clearly. Some I even went back to the original recordings to see if Trevor Bolder was actually playing the riffs. Great night and worth a look if you get the chance just to hear an incredible bass player. Guitarist and drummer were pretty impressive too I have to say. Singer is well known for copying everything Bowie including the mannerisms and all in all a good night. Would like to find out who the bassist actually is if anyone knows. ?
17. Surely Bob Daisley has to be fav as bassist. Don't think RB & Jimmy Bain saw eye to eye.
18. Have you considered the SVT4x10 cab rather than 8x10.I have an SVT4 Pro with Berg HT322 and it is a great sound however I find my Little Markbass stack cuts the mix far better and seems to be pretty nice comparison to the Ampeg sound. Obviously not identical but acceptable to me.Also have the GK 1001RBi amp but its quite a clean sound.
19. I bought a Dingwall NG2 last month and found it so easy to play. Someone stated somewhere that its the type of bass that makes you want to keep playing it. I compared against Combustion but preferred the more mid punch the NG2 produced aall from the slightly different pick up position. (using it on passive mode you can hear the diff) I also compared on the day i bought it with few other basses incl Sandberg & Spector but the Dingwall just seemed to be the natural feel of a bass. The neck and set up was spot on perfect. I've changed nothing which is odd for me because i like tweaking to be honest. As mentioned before string tone and tension is very even across all 5 strings. I keep the bass tone flat and use "in series" mode and it just sounds amazing. I've used it thru Markbass combo, Ampeg SVT4 or GK 1001RBi with Berg HT322 cab and it sounds fantastic with them all. At £1200 its incredible value for money and i've got everything from Custom Overwaters to Warwick Thumb to Fender and Jaydee. This bass beats them all fro feel. You will not be disappointed with a Dingwall. Fan-fret as mentioned before is seriously not an isue and if you don't think about it you won't even notice. 20. I have the sunburst version and changed the strap buttons to stop neck dive completely. Other than that its pretty good value for the money altho i only paid £100 for it 2nd hand. I have a mate with the neck thru white version and if yours is same its pretty impressive for the money. All the best with your new bass. Dave
21. I recently drove 300miles down to Bass Direct and the young lad I believe is Marcus was very helpful. Mark knew I was coming down that day however he was tied up on a phone conversation when I walked in. Marcus asked me roughly what I was looking for and brought down every bass I suggested and laid them out on stands for me. Plugged in a headphone set and left me to it. After a while he came back thru and asked how I was getting on. Gave me his experience and views on the basses I was looking at. Seemed surprised when I said I didn't like the Spector bass. We talked a little more and he left me to it again. I eventually narrowed it down to either Dingwall Combustion or NG2. Marcus talked over what he thought were the main differences and uses for each and we more or less agreed on that. He asked me what type of music I was playing and he thought the NG2 would suit better. At that point Mark came thru and was as nice as nine-pence. You couldn't get a better host. We talked a while and he more or less repeated Marcus view on the 2 basses and we then plugged into a Vanderkley amp and cab for the final decision. I made my mind up that the NG2 was more what I was looking for altho playability was even on both. We talked a bit about the other basses in stock and all in all I would have to say and excellent experience. I enjoyed their company for couple of hrs and left with my NG2. Another 300 mile drive home and I would have to say I would do it again. Very helpful without being over-powering. I did also discuss various amps I was using and Mark voiced some opinions that I was already aware of about amp voicing. He obviously prefers the clean hi-fi amps but fully understood my choice of either Markbass Combo or Ampeg SVT4 with Berg HT322 cab. I would have to say that everyone should visit Bass Direct once in their life. Great experience just to look around even if not buying. Dave
22.
thats just showing off which i dont blame you
I know but sometimes its nice to stand back and wonder why my Wife let me away with this. What's she after ?
23.
Very nice. Part of me is wishing I got the black NG-2. The bright yellow clashes with the living room...
PMSL
24. Decided to tidy up the bass cave. New addition of Dingwall NG2 on the wall. Oh happy days. Dave
