  1. There was also a more limited style or "labelling" of Rock before 71 compared to what is classed as Rock today therefore more bands were playing similar styles of Rock. Prog was going in late 60's but recognized as peaking in mid to late 70's. Today we have Rock, Classic Rock, Prog Rock, Heavy Rock, Indie, Metal, Thrash, even Folk rock and probably more that i can't think off at the moment. My point being that back in 71 it was all more or less classed as simply Rock and may have seemed like there were more "Rock" bands about What do fellow BC'ers class as Rock music ? Dave
  2. Great news, great pic and hopefully you'll find time to get back into playing again but family first and foremost and focus on them before you start looking. Keep us all posted on how things go and wishing you and the family all our best wishes. Dave and Mrs Dave 😃
  3. Maybe what he meant was that Rock was a more popular music of that era and it declined on TV progs like TOTP or even OGWT for various reasons many of the bands didn't want to play on TOTP and back in late 60's to earlier 70's album sales were huge compared to the years after that. Perhaps the fact that people tended to watch TV more than listen to radio or albums had an effect. Who knows ........am i trying to justify his comment now 😊 I didn't get into proper rock music until 74 ish and that's probably why i think it peaked then. I was listening to bands mainly from that era. It has to be different for everyone i guess. Dave
  4. Don't agree at all. Lots of classic rock bands appeared and peaked after that. Deep Purple peaked with Made In Japan 72-73, Led Zep, Rainbow, Rush, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Sabbath and then you have the Metal bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica etc there are far too many to list. For me Rock music peaked around 74-76 altho for some it would be the Iron Maiden era i reckon. Dave
  5. Sorry i was following 2 different threads and bands when i was writing this and got them mixed up. Paul Jeffreys was bassist with Cockney Rebel and then Be-Bop Deluxe. Not Marmalade bassist. My sincere apologies for getting that wrong and hope i haven't offended anyone with my mistake. I now feel like stinky poo posting that and will remove it now. Dave
  6. Removed due to my mistake about which bassist was with Marmalade. See my correction below Dave
  7. Agree he has a really nice technique and makes subtle little changes to the lines throughout the song. Not ad-lib as they appear more repetitive than casual. Quite a catchy wee song too. Dave
  8. Got it wrong the guy was Fraser Watson but he played with the Poets and some of them moved on to play in Marmalade. Was a long time ago so i must have got mixed up. It was a vague era in my life i'm sorry to say ......... but good fun. Dave
  9. Yep i saw that earlier band name. Guitarist wasn't one of the original members. Just checked the album cover and it was at Easter Studios in Busby outside Glasgow. I thought from memory his name was Frazer Watson but can't see his name on the Marmalade members page on Wiki. ? Maybe he was just a temporary fill in or helping them out. I'm curious now and have asked my mate who did the production on the album at the time just to satisfy my own curiosity Dave
  10. I remember recording an album at the guitarists farmhouse studios. Had forgotten it was the guy from Marmalade but can't remember his name. Dave
  11. I'd never heard it before. Glam covers band want to do it and i thought it would sound pretty good in a Glam Rock set. I'll probably get the bass part sorted by ear but having the original manuscript would be great to nail it perfectly. I know there was a manuscript for it but can't seem to get it for free and being a Scot i grudge paying for it Dave
  12. Does anyone have Marmalade Radancer bass tab or manuscript. I've got most of it worked out but some of the minor changes he makes i can't seem to get my head around. Its not as if its a hard song to play or even a difficult bassline and i could get away with playing similar chord structures but i would like to cover it exactly as played by original I've searched several sites but can't seem to find it on any "free" sites. I guess i grudge paying for it just to get a few notes that i don't already have Dave
  13. Think the fact Haslip plays left handed with a RH string set up ie E string on the bottom makes it harder to play in his style. No matter what he is an incredible player and hugely entertaining musician. Dave
  14. I'm struggling to see where this thread is heading but some funny replies
  15. There's a Drumchat ???
  16. First came across Jimmy Haslip on Gino Vannelli album Brother to Brother. Outstanding bassist. Dave
  17. Always best to ask than never find out in my opinion.
  18. Do you think Mr Kimball is just having a laugh and taking the fosters out of the song ? Wonder what the rest of the gig was like.
  19. Since my shoulder and back ache has since gone i use the Gruv Gear strap as a solo and its first class.
  20. Thanks for the reply but its an old post from 2017. Managed to get a wiring diagram thru a Glasgow shop that were extremely helpful in contacting Godin direct and forwarding the diagram to me. Godin themselves never actually replied to any messages i sent them. All sorted now tho and i've since passe on the diagram to a few others on Basschat. Cheers Dave
  21. Nothing quite sounds like a WAL bass. Fantastic. Liked the 2nd track more but both 1st class playing. Dave
  22. Bass Direct Gruv Gear Duo works well
  23. Amazon was doing a deal on Kindle but not sure if its still available.
  24. Just back from holiday and The Craft Room was my only read for the week. The book was absolutely brilliant. Different subject from Weekend Warriors but i could see the similarities in humour coming thru. I lost count of the "I wasn't expecting that" moments and things took me completely by surprise throughout the book. I literally didn't want to put the book down after the first few pages but being on holiday meant things had to be done. "Relatively" speaking i'm glad i don't actually know you Dave. I'm now looking for the 3rd installment in your writing career Dave. Thanks for giving me 2 off the best books i've read in ages. If anyone out there is looking for a great book to read then get one of Dave's Both brilliant, both interesting and both make you want to read to the end without a break. I'M HOOKED Dave. Thanks Dave
