  1. I used to be a bit of a shoe gazer but in most bands i was tucked up at the back near the drummer so not too noticeable. It was usually because i was concentrating on what i was doing. I had to work at not doing it. In my current band i'm out front with singer and guitarist and i had to really make an effort to look the part. Being 70's Glam covers most of the bass parts are not to difficult so its easier not having to concentrate so much and i can just enjoy the fun. Our singer is a bit of a comedian as part of the show with some of his stage show so that does make me laugh quite a bit. Dave
  2. Its a nice bass and i like playing it but i'm not a big fan of the pre-amp and pickups. Not sure which but i was looking at changing them to something a bit warmer. It has quite a modern tone. Dave
  3. Think that was me that sold the Orange cabs. I might sell my Fender Deluxe Precison (MIM) bass if that's any use to you. I also have an Overwater contemp J4 bass in blue that Overwater built for me from the demonstration parts they had before teaming up with Tanglewood. Its all genuine Overwater parts. No serial number as they only made one or two. That's the only 2 basses i don't use now.
  4. Looks like a road worn version of my Geddy Jazz
  5. Nice bass. What's the Limelight bass like. ? Looked at one last year but bought my Sandberg VM4 from them instead.
  6. We do that in ours Glam covers band and its great to play. Lots of energy. I love playing it, but then again i enjoy doing all the Sweet songs we cover. Dave
  7. Hasn't arrived ?
  8. Thank you. Someone else with taste in music.
  9. And then they would do this to completely throw you. Amazing harmonies from them all.
  10. This is one of my favs
  11. Is that his name ? Nope sorry, never heard of him
  12. Who is it. Uncool with fag in hand
  13. That's Geddy's bass.
  14. You gotta say Glenn Hughes was pretty cool with Deep Purple. Not just about being cool tho. The OP asked for bassists that were inspirational in the band. All of the my suggestions fit that description. Dave
  15. Sweet was a big part of my musical journey. One of the very first bands i was into in early 70's. I loved that whole Glam Rock thing hence the reason i'm now in my dream band (70's Glam Rock covers.) He could play some really great bass lines altho most of the Sweet songs are pretty straight forward but that's what made hit songs back then. It wasn't all about technical ability. He was an absolute showman and the comedian in the band. Our drummer lived near Steve when he was a kid. They always referred to Steve as the guy that plays in a band. As they got older Steve became famous and he even got a lift home from pub in his Rolls Royce one day. He has loads of great stories about Sweet in those early years. Steve never seemed to change. He always came across as a really nice guy. He played at Brian's daughters wedding when Brian wasn't doing too well.
  16. Geddy Lee Chris Squire Glenn Hughes Phil Lynott Greg Lake Trevor Horn - Buggles
  17. I might end up going for a passive one at some point if i can find a good 2nd hand one at the right price. Dave
  18. Darn it i did misread the post and i'm laughing at myself for being a plonker. My apologies. Should have gone to specsavers Dave
  19. Removed cause i made an absolute plonker of myself by mis-reading the post.
  20. My Toy Matinee CD just arrived from US via Amazon so i'm about to have a listen to that while making dinner. Bought it after hearing Guy Pratt play it on his Lockdown Vids
  21. Had a first stab at this and that intro is murder on my left hand. I think he's playing it all low down on the neck and using all 4 fingers on his left hand. That needs a lot more practice. Beginning to think i should have picked a slightly easier one to start with The vocal part i can get after a little bit of effort but again the stamina required to maintain it is pretty impressive. Its an exercise for my left hand so a work in progress shall we say. Dave
  22. I quite fancy putting one of the pearl pick guards on my Geddy J bass like this one from Geddy's collection.
  23. Yep that's where i got my white VM4 and Mark was extremely helpful. Not sure how much a shop takes in commission if they do and whether that changes with each shop. ? Mine was already in his stock so wasn't a pre-order or special build. Dave
