1.
I shall be collecting mine.
That sounds like a good idea, i would have collected mine if it wasn't a 700 mile round trip, i had to trust in the couriers. (they arrived exactly on time and in perfect condition though) Matt
2.
Surely the midgets weren't too happy about being loaded into the back of a van?!
They didn't have a choice they were securely wrapped and boxed up! Barefaced are expert at securely wrapping and sending cabs.
3. Have you got your tracking number yet? i had great fun following my Midgets across the country, especially when it said that they had been loaded onto the delivery van and were out for delivery! Matt
4. how much is postage likely to be? (to northumberland) Thanks Matt
5.
Hi Matt Yes they will return, however I'll need to take new pictures and/or adjust the pics I already have, including the payment options etc. That might take a while but it's on my to-do list! Cheers
That's good news, I'll keep saving my pennies up then, maybe I'll be able to afford 2 when they make their return. Matt
6. All this talk of lanyards reminded me that i hadn't bought a polo shirt yet, but it seems that the customised ones with the outlines of famous basses have dissapeared from the shop, are they likely to return? (i can understand that one design was likely to have been removed but was hoping for a p-bass one to wear to work) Matt
7. I believe that the j-pup in my 77 precision is a dimarzio model j, seems a great match to the original pickup. Matt
8. Ahh is it an auction then? I'm afraid I can't speak Portuguese, I thought it was a for sale advert. If the price goes up then it's not worth the bother, at 650 it would have been worth a look and a cheeky lower offer if it played well. Matt
9. for that price i'd be tempted to take a look, the knobs could be original but with all the chrome worn off, if it plays well and sounds good then 650 euros isn't a whole heap of money provided that a fair amount of it is genuine and original, i paid a bit more than that for my modified 77 p-bass because it played well and just felt right. this might be a great player (on the other hand it may be a dog!) if it's local to you then why not talk to the buyer and give it a play? Mat
10.
PM Howard - 'The Bass Doc' on here.
This + 100, if Howard can't sort it you may as well just throw it in a skip! (this is no refelction on the Honer Jack which is a fine instrument but i'm pretty sure that you could present howard with a box of firewood and a bag of nails and he could turn them into a giggable bass in an evening.) Matt EDIT - if you don't get an answer to a PM then drop me a message and i'll send you his phone number.
11. another Picato fan here, use the flats and the stainless rounds. the quality is top flight and the prices are bargain basement, what more can you ask for? might give the half rounds a go next time i have to order some, am using the status half rounds on my cardinal fretless and they're very nice but more brightness would be great on my jazz.
12. you got a bargain! head here to work out it's year, http://www.yamaha.com/apps/guitararchives/guitarserial.htm Matt
13. Have you got anything that you could accurately measure the diameter with? (of the current arm and/or the hole) Matt
14. I've got one of the red ones, can't really compare it to the newer ones but they're very good for the money, the hardware does tarnish but it hasn't bothered me enough to replace it. The pickups are rather good split coil p_types and the preamp has plenty of variation to set your tone. If it's nice and cheap then I'd say go for it. Matt
15. i need to speed up my typing! beaten to the link!
16. there is an official website for Barefaced, the Head honcho Alex is a member on here, http://barefacedbass.com/ the best recommendation i could make is to give him a call and discuss your needs with him, he managed to pair me up with my perfect cabs (i had no idea which ones to go for and am incredibly pleased with what i ended up with) I'm guessing you're in Scotland, it might be worth asking if there are any barefaced owners near you that would let you try the cabs, if you're near Newcastle upon Tyne you'd be welcome to try my midgets. Matt
17. big thumbs up for the midget from me, one on it's own is a wonderfully punchy cab and light as a feather. they're not cheap though and the waiting list is growing by the day, but i'm totally in love with the sound and the weight (9kg) Matt
18. oh and i should have said that the wilkinson trems are very highly thought of!
19. i'm pretty sure that you've got a wilkinson vs100 trem there, so the replacement arm should be this one http://www.allparts.uk.com/online-shop/guitar-bass-parts/bridges-parts-tailpieces/bridge-parts/tremolo-arms-and-arm-parts/tremolo-arm-for-wilkinson-vs100-by-gotoh-push-in-arm-55mm-dia-2-p-4124.html matt
20. hmm £250, my first reaction was that was a little high but a quick search on here shows that to be about right, personally as it's a pawn shop i'd say that if it plays well and the electrics are working then 250 is about right but i'd make an offer of 200 and see what they say, if they've had it for a while they might be flexible on the price. i bought a guitar last week that had a £190 price tag, made an offer at 130 and then we haggled to 150, it's always worth a try and the worst they can say is no! Matt
21. I think it's an IGB-65, I had a 38 as my first bass and a friend is still gigging his Integra, they're great basses and really good value, the pickups are a standard size if you feel like modding it but they sound pretty good with the original ones. I seem to remember that the necks are very comfortable as well and it never aggravated my bad back either. Matt
22.
Cheers for the advice. I put some bronze 12's on it yesterday and it is significantly louder, and the neck seems to be fine....,
it wouldn't be the neck that i would be worried about, the top of the body is the thing to watch, keep an eye out for any change in shape, the reason that my guitar won't take 13's is because it has a lightly braced cedar top which might not take the strain of the heavier strings, i wasn't sure how Koa was for strength,
23. Isn't music store the company that's just taken over dv247? I've always fancied a ric but the prices and actions of the management have put me off the real thing, these look pretty good though! Hmm really wish I didn't have cash burning a hole in my pocket!
24. That's a fairly small body guitar so heavier strings will help, 12's will be fine as that was what the guitar was shipped with, I'd suggest an email to takemine before fitting anything heavier though as not all acoustics will take the tension of very heavy strings, I know that my mcilroy is only warrantied if I don't go above 12's, luckily that's my favorite gauge so I'm fine (newtone heritage are my all time favorites) Due to the size of the body I'd expect that volume wasn't on the agenda when it was designed. Matt
