1. i'm afraid i can't help with the Hartke cabs but have you considered the Ampeg SVT210AV ? a light, affordable 2x10 that's designed for vertical alignment, similar price to the tc cabs and any store with the pf350 in stock is very likely to have the svt210av in stock too. 200w @ 8ohms per cab should pair nicely with the head and they look fantastic. they were very high on my try out list before my wife gae me permission to blow my budget and order my midgets. i'm pretty sure there are a few guys using svt210av's on here but i can't remember who they are! Matt
2. well as some reinforcement to the other comments I've just dug out the old fat beams and they look exactly the same, the ball ends are identical, the windings look right and from your description of the sound and feel i'm 99.9999999% sure they're fatbeams. they are expensive but they're fantastic strings, i'm tempted to order a set for one of my 5er's but i'm on a flatwound kick at the moment. Matt
3. i've got an old set of fatbeams at home, i'll compare them to your pics when i get in, i used to use them exclusively when i just had a 5er, i'll probably go back to them one day when i wnat a change from flats (which is all i use at the moment) Matt
4. i have a pretty low alcohol limit, on a night out to the pub with my friends it's about 3 pints max, maybe 4 if it's my birthday. i once played a gig on guitar after a pint of beer and didn't enjoy it, i usually don't drink any alcohol before the first set but i'll often have a pint of real ale (max 4.5%) at half time, and our second set is designed to be easier to play and remember anyway so i'm usually ok. our singer used to play drums in a blues band and i once witnessed him drink 12 cans of lager that his girlfriend had smuggled into the venue, he had them all poured into pint glasses and lined up on a windowsill behind a curtain right behind his kit, it didn't seem to affect his playing at all, luckily he's dried out a bit since then! matt
5. the Bass Doc would be my first port of call, he's currently without a computer but is reachable by Phone, he's based just outside Newcastle upon Tyne but can do post too, if you want his phone number then drop me a PM and i'll ping it back. the last scratchplate he did for me was cheap tortie but i think it looks great. (it was very cheap as well) he has stocs of differnt materials according to what you actually want, i just wanted a cheap plate to get my bitsa working. Rushbo has just had a red tortie plate made by him so should be able to give you an idea of price. 6.
I am bringing my Letts along.
excellent, i look forward to seeing/hearing it. Matt
7. is anyone able to bring along an ACG or a Lettsbass? i've got GAS for a custom bass but haven't had a chance to see work from either of these great builders in person. matt
8. oh well, good excuse for another bash later in the year maybe? late summer? i'm just hoping my new cabs arrive in time so i've got something shiny to bring along! will there be name badges? it would be great to put some faces to names/usernames. Matt
9. i've replied to the Facebook invite so i'll be there, it's a shame it clashes with Moffat, would changing the date be a huge issue? (although the next week wouldn't be great for me.) i'm happy to throw some coins in the pot for the room hire too. Matt
10. I tried a tu2 a while ago and didn't get on with it, so a big +1 for the polytune, I got mine as a Christmas present in 2011 and it's a great tuner. Matt
11. Just bought a hiscox case from Paul, picked it up in person, a great deal from a great guy. Matt
12. i've had that email twice too, it got bounced straight into the spam folder and then deleted. my e-mail provider is one of the more obscure ones so i don't get a lot of spam. Matt
13. my '77 P has that hole and it's countersunk and has a screw fitted, i always presumed it was to stop the plate from warping as throwoff said. however my bass has had a few mods and I've never had the plate off so i have no idea how original it is. matt
14.
how long have you had to wait for yours?
Put my deposit down about a week before Christmas and was told that I was about 20 cabs down the list but I should have them by the end of January ish, which is faster than I expected. Definitely worth the wait though. Matt
15. It took just 5 minutes of playing through a midget to convince me, tried a compact too and them together, put down the deposits straight away, had a chat with Alex and we worked out that a pair of midgets was what I needed, I considered a super 12 but the pair of midgets seemed a better choice for me, they really are as light and as powerful as claimed, I can't wait for mine to be ready. Matt
16. I've got a couple of those aluminium tool cases, one for the pa desk and then another one with cables, head, and pedals, if i'm travelling light then it just goes in a crumpler messenger bag, at home I've got lots of big hooks for storing all the cables and a shelf for pedals. One of these days I'll build a pedalboard to fit into an aluminium toolcase. Matt
17.
9 x 6 = 42
This!
18. this thread reinforces why i love Basschat so much so I've started another thread with a new "prize" which can be found here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/194153-free-strings-daddario-exl170/ Matt
19. right, in the spirit of these fine People, http://basschat.co.uk/topic/194126-free-obbm-speaker-cable/ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/194146-free-steve-harris-album-british-lion/http://basschat.co.uk/topic/194146-free-steve-harris-album-british-lion/ and as i was the lucky recipient of a fine OBBM cable it's my turn to offer something. i've a set of new Daddario EXL170 Roundwpounds 45-100 sitting on my shelf that i won't need (pretty much only use flats these days) as you wouldn't have a chance of guessing what my cat's name is i'll pick a number and the author of that post will get the strings in the post. there's only one number that i'd consider choosing so here it is... #42! Matt
20. err i didn't expect that! i was planning on buying a pair in the new year to match my incoming Barefaced Midgets, i'm now desperately thinking if i have anything i could give away (in the spirit of this thread) Matt
