  1. Thanks for reading the above, DHL Parcel UK labels are not accepted by DHL or DHL Service points so no I can't drop it off or would have done it by now. I think you miss the point on the Brexit tax, I know they're baked in to the cost, but to get the bass to my door from the EU, cheaper and quicker than the UK with no hidden nasties is in my opinion a win.
  2. Around the middle of October I bought one of Sires new Alder / Rosewood / Roasted Maple 5 string P basses from Thomann, it was in stock a month before the UK stores, cheaper, and, available in my favourite colour way of white body with a tort guard, perfect! A week later the bass arrives, the outer shipper is water damaged and whatever is inside is banging around in what feels like thin air... open it up and there is a tiny inner wedge shaped bass box inside a huge outer shipper and 4 lengths of that crinkle paper attempting to keep everything happy... inner box isn't taped, but looks like nothing has fallen out during transit. But that hasn't stopped Sire / Thomman sending out a bass rife with QC issues... Neck pocket fit is awful, there is a wedged 2mm exposed gap on one side and you can't tighten it up cause one of the neck screws just spins (uh oh someone drilled the hole too big and it isn't biting on the neck wood) Body paint / lacquer is swirled Pickguard has deep scratches definitely look like they were done by a knife scratches and marks on the fingerboard including an absolute mess of scratches on the 12th fret Headstock had whoops I've hit it off a wall marks on front and back Action higher than a high thing (4mm) yes I can set it up... but that's way out of any respectable standard and after all the rest why would I go near this truss rod? Within 10 minutes of my return request email Thomann accept the return, no apology, no "oh wow that's bad lol" just, heres a label go and drop it off at one of these "DHL UK Parcel" places (all newsagents) now this is where my frustrations begin... These DHL Parcel UK places are not DHL or DHL Service points, they're a service by convenience stores who stock pile returns and take 20p per parcel for their trouble. I went to 2 local ones to me, both refused to take the parcel, "it's too big" (their stores are tiny) "DHL don't come" "I've had parcels here for months"... not a good start. I tell Thomann, they don't listen to a word, just recommending I try taking it back to one of the stores i had tried previously, it was seriously like talking to a robot, what's hard to understand about, "I've gone to store A, they won't take it, they say DHL don't pick them up, they don't wan't a parcel half the size of their store sitting gathering dust..." "I'm sorry to hear that, have you tried taking it to store A?" ... repeat. On my third attempt I find a convenience store who VERY reluctantly take it in, same story, DHL haven't been for weeks, no guarantees, want me to call back today to check in with them... I do, and, after a week, it's still in their shop, no sign of DHL and they're quite rightly sick of it, they want me to come and pick it up today and make it someone else's problem... better still Thomann have stopped replying to me... I can't send the parcel via DHL or a DHL Service point as the label from Thomann only covers DHL UK Parcels... which as of right now is a Mickey Mouse, cheap way of Thomann to deflect parcel returns and hope people just give up trying to send stuff back, this is a £500 bass, so nothing major, but imagine it was a 2k bass. I'm most likely going to have to go and get the parcel back from the store today, apologise, and then out of my pocket pay for a proper courier, complain, and hope Thomann do the right thing and reimburse everything. All I wanted was a new 5er for practice! I got a headache! Oh and the good? No Brexit taxes on anything... but thats it!
  3. I’ve got the same bass from this period it’s absolutely wonderful! Glwts
  4. Bought an Aguilar DB112 from Mr Ting, great all round experience, very well packaged and allowed me to organise my own courier for shipping, this was all facilitated by his friend who allowed us to use his house as a pickup point. Great stuff all round. Thanks again!
  5. Sold Bobby my Squier FSR late 50’s P Bass, he came round en route to a gig exactly when he said he would, a pleasure to have round and as he said on my feedback I would have been happy to have had him over for longer to chat bass. Top bloke and an asset to the forum!
  6. Hi guys, Here's the deal, I somehow have 3 P Basses and only need 1, I have for sale a USA P, and these 2 Squier FSR Late 50's P basses, I want to keep 1 of the basses so when two sell the one left is the keeper. These are my superb Squier FSR late 50's P Basses, both recently setup and serviced one is strung with GHS Flats and one with Fender Rounds, I also have a set of Chrome Flats I can put on one of the basses if you don't want the strings it comes with. They both have lovely low action, amazing sound. They really keep up with my USA P and the neck profile on these are super comfortable. In fantastic condition very little wear. Postage included in asking price. Any questions let me know. P Bass with flats P Bass with Rounds *SOLD*
  7. Hi guys, Here's the deal, I somehow have 3 P Basses and only need 1, I have for sale a USA P, and 2 Squier FSR Late 50's P basses, I want to keep 1 so when two sell the one left is the keeper. This is my superb 2013 USA P Bass, recently setup and serviced wearing brand new LaBella DTFs, lovely low action, amazing sound. I'd really love to keep this one so go and look at my squiers and buy one of those instead! Comes with original but slightly damaged on the corners hard case and all candy. Can take any photos you might need. Postage will be extra on top but let's discuss that on PM. Any questions let me know. Electrical tape on the pickups will come off without any residue, or leave it on for that "no tapping the poles" sound.

  17. More experience was had at Bass Direct this week, short story, I'm after a 5 string bass with a budget around a grand, with the brief explained I got to play most of the 1K 5ers in the shop, was left to crack on and offered support and a chat when needed, both Mark and a member of staff were great with me. I Didn't end up taking anything from them for a few reasons but nothing bad, just nothing really grabbed me, the Cort NJS 5 was a really lovely bass but not for me. I was there an hour all in, all good. I will say that they had some chinese made Sadowsky basses and my god they're terrible, fit, finish, feel all awful, plugged it in and it sounded like it was going to take off, noisiest pickups I've ever experienced, really not good. However I do have a gripe, on the website there is a Marcus Miller V7 5 String, which is why I popped over, I've owned one before and they're great and would suit what I need right now. I had noticed that the bass had Aguilar J pickups and a non stock preamp so I wanted to investigate. When I got to the shop they didn't know about the mods (Don't know how mind, they've now updated their ad) they agreed to open the bass up and see what preamp it had in it, turns out it was a Delano Sonar 2, and it was wired in to the aforementioned Aguilar pickups, it even had a Fender Hi Mass bridge - absolutely awesome, then... nightmare... and this is where I massively disagreed with their online description "A used bass in superb condition" the pickup routes to fit the aggies had been done with a spoon, and they're such a mess in person, there's even a wedge of foam blocking the hole left from the original longer bridge pickup, If I had bought this online I would have been bloody devastated and would be sending it back, again I have nothing against the guys, they've consistently been good with me, but this isn't a great example... could perhaps get value buying it and selling the bits or filling the body and re routing and spraying, but bloody hell. 🤢
