I've considered the bass mute but around £120 does seem a bit steep
-
Is there a pedal that can give a palm mute effect? I know I should be doing it with my palm, but since severing a couple of tendons in my hand almost a year ago, and the onset of arthritis in both hands, I find it very difficult to do. I consider myself lucky that I can still play, albeit, with some pain, but some of the songs we play require some palm muting, so I was wondering if there is a pedal that I could just kick in to give me a muting effect as and when needed, I've tried foam which works well, but sometimes I only need the muting in parts of the songs so its not really practical.

I'll never forget the Birds Nest in West End Lane, we used to go there regularly in the seventie's when I was living in Mill Hill, but one night me a some friends got attacked for no reason in there by a bunch of blokes with Stanley knives, blood, ambulances, police, absolutely everywhere, I was one of the lucky ones, but some of my mates were badly cut up and suffered for years from their wounds. 🙁 But back to the original subject, I was as guilty as most when it came to being prejudiced against artists and genres that I thought I "shouldn't" like, I definitely have more of an open mind nowadays. 😉

Recording video - how and which programme/app to use?
thebrig replied to Bass Culture's topic in Recording
I have a MacBook Pro with Final Cut and iMovie installed, which I use for video effects like titles and transitions etc, but when it comes to syncing audio to the videos, I now only use Reaper because it is so precise, I find that Final Cut and iMovie tends to snap a fraction either side of where you want it, even if I'm zoomed in as far as I can go. -
It won't be for a couple of months as I still have some DIY jobs to do first. ☹️ It's the shape of the body that I like most, but I do think it will mean horrific neck-dive, the neck will probably be similar to a jazz neck specs.
-
That's true, I never thought of that. The scale length is 770mm and it looks like the top of the body to the bottom of the body is more or less the same as the distance from the 12th fret to the bridge, which would make it around 385mm, the width looks to be around two thirds of the length making it about 256mm.
-
I'm thinking of making a bass similar to the VOX Bill Wyman Teardrop Bass, and would like a rough idea of the length and width of the body so that I know what size body blank I would need. Maybe if you own one, would you be kind enough to measure the width and length of the body for me please?

Just bought a Zoom B3 from Russ, I received it within two days, great communication and a very smooth transaction all round. Many thanks

Sorted! It seems that I somehow slid the control panel all the way to the left, I've now managed to slide it back into view. 🙂

Thanks for your help. The 2nd photo was of an older version I installed to see if it would have the 'default' layout but it was still the same. I always have the latest version installed, 1st (photo below) I've tried every single option in 'Themes' and 'Layouts' and nothing will get me back to the 'default' layout, (2nd Photo below), I've tried Google and YouTube searches but just can't find a way of doing it 🤔

I've been using Reaper for some time now but suddenly the layout changed to an open screen with the mixer at the bottom (1st photo), I've tried everything to revert back to the normal layout (2nd photo), but can't find a way of doing it. I'm not an expert by any means, so if anyone can help me, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Last April I severed two tendons in the back of my hand which left my hand weak and painful, particularly in the fingers, I also suffer from arthritis in both hands, so I bought a pair of Isotoner Therapeutic Compression Fingerless Gloves and I love them, they are so comfortable and slide up and down the neck beautifully, and they don't touch the strings, so no problem with unwanted muting. I would still wear them out of choice, even if my hands improve over time. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000JUFG5K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I think after all the comments and advice, I will probably stick with just stringing from the bridge, because by my own admission, I can't notice any difference anyway, so why try and fix what is not broke? 🤔
-
I used to string-through when I was using rounds and if I'm honest, I don't think I could hear any difference in sound, and definitely no difference in feel. To me, stringing through the body seems more secure than stringing from the bridge, and if I can do so with flats without any issues, then I probably will.
-
I've been using Ernie Ball Cobalt Flatwound Super Slinky 45-100 strings for a few years now and love the slightly brighter tone and feel of them. I string them from the bridge but was wondering if anyone uses them strung through the body, and if so, have you had any issues? I've read that stringing them through the body can cause problems, especially where it bends over the saddle and in some cases causing the string to break, or they go dull or dead much quicker.

I've had this problem in the past finding someone's feedback, and some members end up having two or three feedbacks due to people starting new threads because they've not been able to find the original feedback. Could we have a link in our avatar? When we buy or sell something via the marketplace, we nearly always communicate by sending messages to each other, and when you hover over the person's avatar in the messages, it shows links to Message, Ignore User, and Find Content, if a Feedback link was also added, (if its technically possible of course), it would make leaving feedback a lot easier. Something like this.

When recording covers of popular songs, I use Karaoke Version, if you choose the "Custom Backing Track" option, every instrument can be downloaded individually and easily inserted into your DAW as a track. https://www.karaoke-version.co.uk/custombackingtrack/ Edit: Btw, each custom song costs £1.99 and you can download each full song or individual instrument parts as many times as you like, for example, I often download the full song without the bass track, or I sometimes leave the guitar parts out as well if I'm capable of playing them myself.

To be fair, it played and sounded great, I think it was definitely one of the better Les Paul copies around at the time, but £899? I don't think so! 🤔 I've found an old photo taken in the late 70's of the guitar, and no, I wasn't in a Bay City Roller tribute band, I was dressed up like this for a fancy dress party. 😏

25" scale? I didn't realise they were that short!

This!

Reading this thread reminded me of the Shaftsbury Les Paul copy I purchased second-hand in the 70’s, I paid £50 for it at the time. About ten years ago I donated it to a local charity shop, the following morning it was in the window for £80 and when I looked later that day, it was sold, I was pleased at the time because I didn’t want it any more, and the charity shop made a some money from it. But then I started googling Shaftsbury guitars and I came across this, whether it sold for £899 I will never know, but maybe I should have held on to it a bit longer. 🤔 What makes it worse is the fact that the guitar pictured looks very much like the one I had, the reason I say that is because when I bought it, the jack socket wasn't the original, it was a homemade oblong silver one, exactly like the one in the picture, the rest of the hardware was gold. I've just joined the Lakland club with this lovely USA Bob Glaub PJ that I purchased from Azumi a couple of day's ago. It sounds and plays great, it has a jazz neck which is my preference, so I'm absolutely delighted with it. I'm thinking of changing the guard to a tort one but can't see a way of removing the control knobs, there are no screws in the holes that I can see, I've tried various allen keys without success, the holes look like they have an internal thread which is weird, does anyone know how to remove them? Edit: I've now found the correct hex key.
