Can I replace my 410 with a 210 and get the sound I want?
Kev replied to Iheartreverb's topic in Amps and Cabs
I`ve no doubts a Terror and BF210 will be loud enough, but will there be the depth of sound that you need? I`d probably be looking at the BF410 (or any other good 410) for this. More speakers give that depth to the sound that some equate to volume but its just a bigness which enables to the sound to have a constant presence.
Key info there, its not all about how loud you can get. I would try a ported 410 and compare. -
Great choice, you will love it
I'd agree with all of that 😎
And Vanderkley too, great minds!

GAS attacked, so I bought this fantastic piece of German engineering the other day:- Arrived today in time for practice tonight. It is sensational. Ill be controversial; if there is such a thing as 'heft' then, rarely for a Class D, this thing delivers it. Incredible depth and punch to the sound. Pushing a good 600w into my Vanderkley when cranked pushing it to its limit, but I could take it past around 11oclock for fear of bringing the rehearsal room ceiling down. Really impressed, and suits me more than the Gallien Krueger Fusion 500 it replaces. In truth, at volume tonally there is little to split the two when flat, with the Tecamp having that mysterious 'heft' and a slightly warmer, punchier sound, compared to the edgyness of the GK. The Tecamp's Taste control is far more usable than the GK's Contour for me, and it does get louder. I really like the EQ points on the Tecamp as well Headphone amp is really, really good too. Best I have used, actually

Took delivery of a Tecamp amp today from Kev, in time for band practice tonight. Sensational bit of kit, and sensational service from my namesake, couldn't have got it here any quicker. Cheers mate!
Yeah hopefully the analogue aspect makes a difference to the sense of realness. That's always been my biggest issue with plugins, they sound nice but they don't feel quite right in the way they respond to changes in dynamics, they are static snapshots. Even if this isn't the real thing, it's a step closer to it than the plugins. I think I'll probably order one of these real soon.
I fully recommend you do And thanks for the detailed info, Dan!
Really curious about this pedal for headphone / studio stuff for a dry signal with no pedals, I've tried most amp sim plug-ins and I always end up turning them off because I find them a little artificial, but from the demos this sounds a lot better. Anyone know what's actually going on inside the box? Gain, some clever eq, what else?
I don't know, magic?! Its all analogue certainly, which will definitely be one reason why its sounds so much more genuine that many amp sims. I assume its a clever mix of eq, low/band/highpass filters e.t.c.
I own the original Darkglass Vintage Microtubes, and I would hate to fork out the extra cash to get the "grunt" effect in their Deluxe version of the pedal. Anyone know how to get something like that - a shourtcut or a cheap pedal to give the tone that edge?
You'll get close with an eq, but it won't be the same. The Deluxe is so much more than just the grunt control, try one and see what you think. For me, it's worth the extra bit of cash every time.

One thing that does confuse me a little - if you look at Flea's bass, it doesn't have wear where this model does, and it has wear where this model doesn't....

This is a cracking 500w Class D amp, with a 3 valve preamp running at full 300v plate voltage. One of the nicest tube preamps I'v heard in an amp, and is capable of all kinds of growl. The amp gets very clean as well, with the input gain and db pad giving you as little or much hair as you could want. Two channels for switchable gain levels. It is LOUD. 8ohms into a 1x12 (~300w) is enough to keep up with a very loud metal drummer and two guitarists, but with the full 500w into 4 ohms this will have very impressive 'heft' indeed! Amp is in great condition. For the sake of full disclosure, there is a little rack rash on the top (see pic below) and one or two of the pots are a occasionally a little scratchy (think every amp I'v owned has had this in some form!), obviously small things but I'm being picky! Amp is in great shape, I will be sad to see it go.

500W Digital power amp
All tube preamp (Three 12AX7s) w/ 4-band Active EQ
Footswitchable Boost w/ Volume control
Variable contour with mid frequency select
Deep and Bright switch
Mute switch
Active/passive switch (-14dB)
Effects loop
Line out, headphone out and Tuner out
XLR out with pre/post EQ and ground light
2 Speakon outputs
Amp comes in sturdy case with plenty of room for power leads/cables e.t.c. Comes with a footswitch (not the original) for channel switching. No box or rack ears. Further pics available on request.
Which would you choose from the two I am torn between and why? Which of the two has the better b string in your opinion? Are there any other basses you would consider with the amount of money I have? There's no music shops that carry these instuments anywhere remotely near me so trying them out before I buy is off the agenda. Cheers!

I would choose neither. For £1,000 I would wait and buy a Thumb NT 5 when one pops up. Different class of instrument to the Bolt-On, and quite exceptional. A thumb has a very baked in tone due to the pickup placement, much as a Stingray has its own backed in tone. Very different, entirely dependent on what you want. For me, the Thumb NT is of a much higher build quality than the Stingray. The Bolt-On is comparable, but IMO still better due to the quality of the woods used. The BO is typically uncomfortable on a strap, plenty of neck dive on a lot of examples. The NT balances much better. I have only tried one Stingray 5 and it balanced perfectly. With Warwicks, I would look at instruments 1992 and older, or 2009 and newer. Best experience I have had with Warwicks (I have owned over a dozen) have been built during these periods.
There is no 'better' B, but I am not sure what your definition is. They are both 34" scale instruments, so a lot will be dependant on the setup.
Tons of basses, little merit in suggesting many, but the first that comes to mind is a Dingwall Combustion.
You need to try some basses out. Stingrays and Warwicks are worlds apart, being active is about the only thing they have in common. It is a buyers market out there, I would wait for an NT thumb if you were insistent on buying without trying, unless you find a BO for the £600-£700 mark (come up more often than you would think).

Did anyone have a preorder in at guitar guitar? As imagine that is who will get it

You know, I may joke, but actually I would much prefer a 9lb jazz to an 8lb personally!
-
Yeah, it only powers on if it's in the mood...

Lose value these Flea signatures, particularly the heavy ones. I mean, your a nice guy, ill give you £200 for the fatty......

Interesting to see a comparison between Barefaced and Vanderkley, without having the opportunity to do it myself your results are pretty much what I imagined they would be. I personally wouldn't want to compromise tone, so if the extra weight and size isn't an issue I would stick with the Vanderkleys. If you crave more compactness and a good tone buy the Barefaced.

Just sold Jordi an effects pedal, smooth and patient to deal with, despite the pedal somehow taking nearly 2 weeks to get to spain! Cheers mate
I have never taken anyone to task for criticising barefaced (or any other gear for that matter) because calm respectful discussions of the merits are gear is what we are here for, I do however take people to task for jumping in with mud slinging comments and inflammatory comments like "oh no another one of these threads" which dont forward to discussion at hand.
We can agree to disagree. Can we move on please, as per the OP's request?
