1. God damn I want this bass.....where can I find £1000?
2. All I've got up for trade at the moment is this Vester Clipper....thought I'd throw it out there, but guessing there would need to be a bank breaking cash adjustment in your favour for a PRS?
3. **Off to our antipodean friends down under** Hi all, A while back I found this little beauty being listed in Gumtree and for just over a years it's served as my 'slap' bass. I just got hold of a Warwick Corvette $$ in a trade, so given their similarity in built and feel I've decided it's time to pass this massively underrated bass off and see whether any interesting trades come my way. Here's the key specs: - Brass nut - Black Gotoh hardware (front straplock, rear strap buttons [2 bottom end buttons for strap placement], locking Spector style bridge, tuners). - Barrel jack - 5 piece laminate neck (bolt on) - Rosewood fretboard - 24 Jumbo frets - Beautiful grained solid Bubinga body (clearly a Warwick Thumb rip off, but a faithful representation for someone looking for a 'built like a tank', great sounding, cheap slap bass) - Volume / Volume / Tone controls - Active electronics (9v) - J / J Pickup config with slanting bridge pickup. The bass is in near immaculate condition given it's age with only 2 marks above the pickups from thumb placement and a slightly loose neck pickup volume control. No other damage, knocks, dings etc. It's a great sounding bass with the heavy solid body producing a lovely warm and heavy bass tone, with some nice crispy highs - I'm certain that if you were to swap out the stock Vester pickups for something higher end this bass would be right up there with some of the greats. I'd do this, but when it comes to pickups and wiring, I'm way out of my depth and I don't have time to do it. The overall build quality of the bass is excellent, especially the neck which I'd say is a mid profile (fatter than a jazz, but thinner than a warwick or musicman), but plays like butter; the action is suitably low, adjusted for my preference at the moment which is about 2mm over the 12th fret. Here's a taster: More pictures can be found here: For comparison, check out this Warwick thumb here: I would consider selling this, but really more interested in trades at the moment; feel free to hit me up with any offers as I'm just fishing for something but I don't know what it is yet All trades welcome and considered; 5 or 6 stringers welcome also, but only if they're 35" scale. Cheers, /chuck
4.
Looks like a wenge thru neck too, nice!
Spot on there Chris2112. Just this morning I had a response from Tanglewood on an enquiry I'd made about this bass last month, so here's a bit more info about the construction directly from them: BARON bass 'Limited Edition': Through neck design, top quality hardware. Special slim neck from African Wenge wood (hardest available). Neck through body design into solid Maple body. Workmanship by custom shop luthier. 14ct gold plated hardware, active bass control, 2 EMG pickups; J and P style. Gotoh locking strap buttons. Brass nut. Finished in natural satin. Tanglewood also had this to say about the bass: 'I recognised the name instantly as one of our old Limited Edition top quality basses. I can safely say there are very few of these basses as approximately 120 were made as a limited edition run. This was one of the best basses we at Tanglewood ever produced'.
5. Any chance this is going to come back up for sale or trade?
6. Trade agreed with GriffJamerson, just pending the physical swap today.
7. Man, what gives? Is this bass so undesirable..? 'Last chance motel' before she goes on eBay type BUMP and final price drop: Now £450 o.n.o.
8. Any chance you'd consider any trades on this, and if so what?
9. Hello fellow BC'ers.. My apologies, I've actually been with the board about a week now, but only just discovered this thread, so here's a bit about me... My name is Oli. I'm based in Leeds and have been rocking the bottom end since I first picked up an instrument when I was 14. I'm currently playing in a band called Ether 5 who've been gigging in and around Leeds for the past 18 months or so. Before joining Ether 5 I had a 5 year hiatus when I moved to Leeds and failed to meet any like minded musicians, but I'm back on the scene and desperate to jam, gig, record, play and learn as much as possible. I'm developing a fascination for all things bass which has resulted in my 'collection' expanding exponentially from a Tanglewood Baron 4-string (which is now for sale), to include a MusicMan SUB, Fender Jazz Fretless, Lakland 44-02 Deluxe (also for sale), Crafter Acoustic and a Vester Clipper. At the moment, I'm mostly playing the MusicMan and I'm looking to try as many other basses as possible (finances permitting). In terms of amp, I'm using a Gallien-Krueger 400RB-IV which I'm running through an Ampeg HLF-410 cab, and it sounds awesome I'm not much of an effects guy, but I do have an EHX Q-Tron plus which I love, and I'd like to get a decent fuzz pedal, but I don't yet know which one to get. I'm here to get involved in the community, learn more about the bass and various techniques, learn to do some home recording, trade, buy or sell some gear and hopefully find a few more musicians with whom I can get together and jam, gig, record or maybe just grab a beer or two and chew the musical fat. If you think you might have something I might be interested in, feel free to drop me a PM. Anyway, that's enough about me.... I look forward to meeting the rest of you BC'ers. Take it easy Oli
10. Currently negotiating a trade on this one bump.
11. Bump! Come on BC'ers, throw me a bone here....an offer, trade or anything? Don't let me eBay it.
12. How is no one buying this bass? This is a little beauty and someone would get a right deal on this for the asking price. Like I said before, if I didn't already own one, I'd be snapping this up in an instant. If you end up keeping it, I'd be interested to hear what mods you make to it. I've pondered changing the p'ups on mine for something else....but no idea which would compliment the bubinga body best.
13. How is this still for sale? If its still here in 2 weeks, I might just have to bite...
14. Hi guys, I'm starting to get into the idea of recording some of my playing and sharing it on youtube and so on, but I'm a complete novice when it comes to recording so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Here's what I've got: Gallien-Krueger 400RB-IV with DI out. PC running windows 7 64-bit If I'd like to record into my PC, what free software is there available which will work with Win7 64-bit? I've tried a few programs but they didn't seem to want to install as they weren't compatible with the OS. Also, can it be as simple as running a DI cable from my amp, into the mic socket of my PC, or do I need some additional hardware in order to successfully record? Any advice/suggestions warmly welcomed! Thanks in advance, Oli
15. Hey guys, I too am looking for any good drum loops for rock/hard rock/funk etc, or just an easy to use piece of drum machine software which I can use to program drum loops (something with a visual interface would be awesome!). Any suggestions, or offers of loops greatly appreciated Cheers, Oli
16. Hi all, My name's Oli and I'm based in Leeds. I'm a solid bassist who has a strong background in rock, hard rock and grunge, and have dabbled a little in funk. I've recently started playing again after a 5 year hiatus and although I currently play in a stoner/hard rock band in Leeds, we're not gigging as much as I'd like and so I'm looking for new adventures. Since connecting with the bass again, I'm keen to play as much as possible and that includes jamming and especially gigging as well as learning and playing as many new styles as possible. Over the past 6 months or so, I've started teaching myself slap bass and whilst I'm no Louis Johnson, I'm getting there fast and see playing in a band as the best way of improving. So, I'm looking for a band who need a bassist, or finding some other musicians who are up for getting a regular thing going and trying to gig as much as possible. I've got my own gear in terms of amp head, cab and basses but I'm skuppered for transport. I'm 31, if that a massive difference to anyone. Basically, happy to hear about anything and from anyone although I'm 100% against playing any Indie as I find it slightly soul destroying and boring to play and listen to. Hope to hear from some of you out there! Cheers, Oli
17. Just updated the main description and dropped the price to £500. Seriously.....no takers? I know it's a Tanglewood, but don't let the name fool you, this one is something special!
18. BUMP for new pictures and price drop to £550
19. I thought as much, but was worth a punt good luck with your sale/trades
20. My heart goes out to you for the injury and having to give up playing. I often have nightmares about that very thing.... best of luck with selling the gear, I'd love to snap up old blighty as I've been after a Sandberg for a while, and that would be my choice of pickup config - the paint job is just awesome. If I suddenly find a grand, you'll get a pm from me about her.
21. I've got a Lakland 44-02 Deluxe which I've put up here on BC for sale or trade. Currently considering a few trade offers I've received, but thought I'd throw it in here in case it's the sort of thing you're after? Oh, It's only a 4 stringer though.
22. As an owner of a GK 400 RB-IV, I can honestly say one thing about the GK 'growl' is that it cuts through the mix better than other amps I've used, but its definitely an acquired taste and not to everyone's liking. I seem to recall that Duff McKagan from G'n'R used a GK amp - might be worth listening to some of his bass parts if you want an idea of the sound. Just to second Thom's comment, I run my GK amp head eq almost flat, and just eq my sound on the bass.
23. I've got one of these massively underrated beauties and I can't recommend them enough. That's a chunk of solid bubinga for the body, and man is it heavy for the size of the bass. Nice sounding too; lovely big tone and the craftsmanship is superb - beautiful neck with nice chunky frets, perfect for slap bass. If I didn't have one already, I'd be snapping this up. Someone needs to grab a bargain!
