Warwick Corvette Proline (96) 5 String
chuck_stones replied to ryancowell25's topic in Basses For Sale
Hehe, no worries. Thought I'd offer just in case... have you seen leachr is looking for a 5 string bass in this thread. I think he's looking for a Lakland / Fender J bass but yours might do the trick, though he's got a MM Stingray for trade which probably doesn't help your pickup plan. Good luck with the trade! -

Just received the Cort C4H that I brought of Brian (bkman42). Bass was in impeccable condition, really great comms throughout the transaction and he sent the bass down from Glasgow without extra charge via Parcelforce 48. Nicely packaged and set for transport. Quick postage after payment cleared and generally a really pleasant transaction. Highly recommended also! Cheers Brian, A very happy chuck_stones (Oli).

This is a topic which I'm really interested in because simply from my own experience, I've found 34" B strings to be really undefined, flappy and generally lacking in tone (particularly 'punch'). In contrast, I've used several 35" scale basses and always found the B strings to be nice and tight, well defined and with a nice punchy tone, so I was completely sold on the 35" scale being superior and have been hunting for the perfect 35" scale 5 strings ever since, until that was, I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3r6GAqHu4E Despite the fact that the video sound was recorded on a poor quality mic, you can hear that the tone and tightness of the B string is fairly impeccable. Whether that is mostly down to the Delano pickups and Glockenklang preamp, I couldn't dare to say, but that is one awesome sounding 34" B string. I don't get why on some 34" basses, the B string is physically really loose, and some much tighter seeming? So, my search continues....

I've got an old tuition VHS with Entwistle on it and he get's asked about his distinctive sound; the man himself put it down to the following 4 factors: 1. New strings 2. Pickups cranked up to full 3. Treble cranked up to full 4. Hitting the strings hard. Apparently he believed that the only way to cut through the mix and be heard was to crank the treble up as much as possible and dig into the strings.

Floating thumb, although that's not become second nature yet...so I'll use the heel of my right hand if I'm slapping or my left (fretting) hand, and on occasion, use my left hand if I'm playing with fingers.

Do you own one? harveyn: good luck with the sale of your bass; it looks like an interesting instrument, but way out of my price range! All the best with the sale.

Tanglewood Baron (Limited Edition) Bass
chuck_stones replied to chuck_stones's topic in Gear Gallery
After posting this yesterday, I got home and felt inspired to pull this bass out for a little jam session. I forgot just how amazing this bass is to play, and how awesome it sounds. I'm going to try and record some samples and put them up -
Hi all, Was just perusing evilBay and noticed this beauty on there! If I had £800 notes I'd be snapping this one up, it's blooming gorgeous but since I don't I thought I'd pop it up on here. I'm not the seller nor associated with them in any way, just seemed like a bit of a bargain which I can't take, but thought that one of the BC'ers might. Cheers, /chuck

Tanglewood Baron (Limited Edition) Bass
chuck_stones replied to chuck_stones's topic in Gear Gallery
After posting this I got to thinking about how much I love this bass and whether I can improve it. I think I'd quite like to stick some Delano J Pickup: JMVC 4 FE/M2 & P Pickup: PMVC 4 FE/M2 into the bass to give it a little more grind and definition. Does anyone know any good places who could do this up near Leeds? -
That's a fine looking bass you have there, Chuck. Can I be nosey and ask how much you paid for it?
Hehe, of course you can; though whether my memory can serve is an entirely different matter........If I recall correctly, I managed to 'acquire' this bass at trade price and paid just shy of £500, so I have no idea what the retail price would have been at the time - I used to know a guy who owned a guitar shop, and as a favour in return for my regular visits and spending sprees in his shop, he ordered one of these in at no cost; great guy and a great shop. -
Had this bass for just over 14 years and it's still one of my favourite basses (despite coming to terms with the idea of selling or trading it recently). Was apparently one of a limited edition run of 120 basses made by Tanglewood back in 1995-1996 which was finished by one of their custom shop luthiers and it's clear in the build quality and finishing this isn't one of their run of the mill basses. Features EMG P/J pickups, a 24 fret 5-piece laminate through neck (Wenge and maple) and maple wings, finished in a clear gloss. The body is 'slimline' making it relatively light compared to other basses but with more big bottom than Spinal Tap. It has active boost which gives it some serious bass to complement the bass/treble cut/boost and the pickup pan. Finished with a brass nut and 14ct gold-plated Gotoh tuners and bridge, along with Gotoh locking strap buttons. The neck has a nice rolled edge, beautifully finished frets and a super smooth and low action which I've never had to adjust in the 14 years I've owned it. Overall excellent craftsmanship and I think an example of a massively underrated, and understated bass. It has picked up a few knocks over the years, but still in excellent condition considering I've used this as my main gigging bass for 12 years and it's a veteran of over 100 gigs. Oh, and in all that time, I've not had a single fault with it....not even a crackly pot. Some pics for your viewing pleasure: (now with East U-Retro Deluxe installed) Thanks for looking
