1. 3 hours is pushing it a bit, certainly if your clients are kept waiting. I've drummed for gigs when I've had literally 20 mins to unload, set up and count everyone in (early Sat Nav mishap), whoever's causing the delay needs a bit of a friendly prod. Generally it's the guitarist who fiddles about with FX settings. Kindly inform them that that's what the EQ on the amp is for - use that to 'tune' the rig to the room.

Bass DI

I've used the MXR for a while now, and until recently have been very happy with it. The distortion circuit is pretty good, but it's not possible to bypass the "color" (mid scoop) when using this channel. I've just sold it, and am expecting a Dave Hall DHA EQ-DI, which doesn't have a distortion circuit, but is supposed to be a really clean DI with a very musical EQ section. I'll let you know how I get on if you still need the info.

SOLD

Hi All, I'm currently selling my MXR M80 Bass DI+. Practically brand new condition, with original box (scuffed, but hey, it's cardboard), and velcro tape underneath for easy mounting. £75 posted to anywhere on your mainland British Isles. SOLD
7. Even though I've got a lot of love for Protools and Cubase I'm not 'up to date' with either pieces of software. I still occasionally use a 4-track. Do I win a small, outdated prize?
8. I've got two basses at the moment. MY Blade 5 string cost me roughly £600, and it does me proud everywhere I go - gigs, studios etc... So I'd be tempted to say that the bracket that this falls into is still a pretty good one. I also have a fretless P-bass bitsa that I put together for roughly £100. It's my 'go to' bass, as the playability is just sooooo good. What we have here is the principle of "commodity fetishism" played out on an internet forum. To summarise it, we (as capitalist consumers) are conditioned to believe that something that if option A (bass, car, PC etc...) costs more than option B, then option A must be better than option B. I'm not really a Marxist, but I am sympathetic to a fella called Theodore Adorno who was. He wrote lots of papers/essays on popular culture and its place in society, and talks a lot of sense. Ears don't lie folks, Joe Meek pegged it right - "if it sounds right, it IS right".
9.
The cloth, with pedals still attached, came out of mine last week when I tried to remove one pedal.
Superglue. Because glue can be super, can't it?.
10. Paperweights, doorstops and a holder for paperclips.
11. Don't think so, as the 'plug' bit is more like an RCA connector than a laptop plug. Could just pull the HD out of it and sell it like that, but I know I'll get more for it with the HD intact.
12. Freebie bump . Same model as mine and noise/buffering isn't a problem. Lovely analogue chorus.
13. Hi all, I'm after borrowing a 65W power supply for my old 17" G4 powerbook. Basically mine's given up the ghost and I'd like to borrow one to reformat the drive before I sell it for spares. It's the old 'barrel' type connector, not the new Magsafe thing. Anyone feeling benevolent?
14. FTAGH - Quiktime (sic) quartz metronome. Goes from 40 - 208 bpm with a really annoying (but functional) A440 HZ tuning pitch. Will switch between 4/4, 3/4 and 2/4. It's in really good nick and has been sat in my bass case, unused, for months. TBH I've only taken it out to turn it off when I've moved the case and it's been turned on accidentally - not a good idea in this day and age to be walking round major cities with a ticking black box... First come, first served. PM me and I'll post it to you gratis.
15.
Thank you - I will have a very slow go at that.
Best way - the slower the better with a piece like this.
16.
That "looks" good, but I don't have the bass with me now. We need someone who is kind enough to play it (nice as you should have promised! ) and upload!
I'll try to record it tonight.
17.
+1 I can buy beer and have sex every night.
...and reach the first fret. I didn't watch for longer thatn about 20" - just not my thing. This is the internet - if I want to watch people engaging in 'teenage exercise' then surely there are sites that specialise in that sort of thing? No doubt the kid's got some chops though.
18. as a stance against 'Pick Nazism' I'm going to play fretless with a pick in BOTH hands. That'll show 'em.
19.
Sounds like the bass guitar equivalent of eating a veggie burger with cutlery carved from the bones of innocent lambs. One just defeats the point of the other.
Sssshhhhh, don't tell Morrissey.
20. I liked it. The interviews are a little dated, yes, and the Carol Kaye one is incomplete, but the section on recording bass is worth some investigation; there's some good advice and a few nice tricks to be had there.
21. Hi All, I arranged this a while ago whilst sitting at my kitchen table with a laptop and a bass. It is IMHO the most beautiful melody in the world and works really well as a solo bass piece. You have to promise to play nice though, it's quite delicate. all the best, Paul
