1978 Fender Musicmaster in the original wine red finish. It’s a lovely finish and you can see the grain through it. The bass is in excellent condition for the year and weighs in at around 3.6kgs - nice and easy on the shoulders. It’s a shortscale bass and has 19 frets which are in good shape. Neck is very good with a few dings but none that bother the playability. A few dings to the body and marks (see pics) and some nice finish checking. Bass comes with CTS pots and custom made pickup. This sounds really punchy compared to the original (strat type guitar pickup) single coil pickup that the last owner had replaced. To my ears it has more of a P bass tone. I do have the original pots (although the shafts have been damaged) and the original capacitor is in situ. The other hardware; tuners, string tree, strap buttons, bridge, neck plate and knobs are original. When I bought it the wrong era replacement scratchplate had been installed so I bought the correct version from WD Music. There are some extra screw holes hidden under the plate as a result. The bass is a great later example of the small but perfectly formed and punchy Musicmaster now becoming sought after in their own right as a very playable alternative to the Mustang bass. I have two others both rather beaten up and they are my preferred bass these days but work on the house means something has to go….. UK sale only, sorry no trades. Pickup preferred but I can post at buyer’s cost. Thanks.

Sterling SB 14 Body With US Musicman Neck £580 - *SOLD*
ash replied to ash's topic in Basses For Sale
Yes the neck was expensive and also the Hipshot hardware I fitted. I got the neck originally to swap for a rosewood board on another Sterling but then having bought an SB14 I tried it on that and it became my main gigging bass for 18 months. Unfortunately fretting hand issues mean I’m only able to play short scale basses for the time being. -

This is a lovely bass with a slim jazz style neck and a glossy black finish throughout. Pickups are at a slant - I suppose this is to accommodate full size pickups on a slightly downscaled body. They sound really punchy with a nice zing to the Jazz. All hardware is original - I did replace several grub screws on the bridge as they were very tall and were uncomfortable when palm muting (I have the originals and will include them). The E tuner has at some point been bent then straightened but functions okay. The bass has a 32” scale and is around 3.7kgs - very comfy for long gigs. It comes with a contemporary leatherette gigbag - possibly original to the bass. There are some minor marks and repaired damage at the bottom of the bass around the strap button. Finish damage that has been filled and touched up. It’s a bit rough but fortunately is in a place that’s not easily visible. Miraculously all the original knobs have retained their caps. I bought it to try a medium scale and although I love the look and sound of it I find short scale basses comfier to play. Possible trades against a Sterling shortscale Stingray (and cash my way) or American Mustang (plus cash your way). It has been set up with new Picatos 40-95 and plays really well. A rare Japanese vintage Fender. Final pictures show the difference in size to my old JV Squier Precision and the stacked TBX tone pot. Personal pickup preferred however I can post in the UK only for £25. Price dropped to £575.

Promenade is on my patch too - well when I’m working in Morecambe. Great looking bass. There is something very cool about a black and maple Precision. Unfortunately however (or fortunately for my wallet) I can’t play long scale basses at the moment and will have to make do with my ‘76 Musicmaster. GLWTS

Vintage-brand REVO series. Ned Callan look-a-like
ash replied to NikNik's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I bought this as I always liked the Ned Callan/Peter Cook Custom bass - the twin cutaway reminded me of the early Gibson EBO Les Paul Jnr shape. The Revo is well put together especially for the money. It has a nice neck and played well unfortunately however it was heavy for a shortscale at 4.3kgs. The thick slab body also made it difficult for me to find a comfortable playing position. Definitely try one if you can as it may be perfect for you however I returned mine. -
John Birch Fretless Thunderbird/£800
ash replied to NancyJohnson's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I’ve owned quite a few early John Birch basses and the biggest selling point to collectors are the pickups and unusual switching options. Later models after - John Carling took over - were much simpler in design. Possibly one of those? The ones I’ve owned have had a back scratchplate and a very comfortable neck to body design. I believe that in the early days John Birch was most interested in circuitry design and the main luthier was John Diggins. -
SWR Workingman’s 10 Combo USA Classic SWR original pre Fender US made Workingman’s 80 watt combo. Despite its rather sexist name this amp is suitable for all and is very powerful. The 80 watt rating belies the sound this little combo can produce and using an extension cab it can deliver 100 watts of old school power. The original SWR 10” speaker is in great condition and all the controls work as they ought to. The amp comes with mains lead and Roqsolid custom cover. It weighs just over 17kgs so it’s not light but manageable, certainly a one hand lift. There is an extra handle at the bottom that works as a built in stand to angle the amp. I’ve used it in a four piece band with a loud drummer without a DI and it’s kept up. Great for someone wanting an all round amp with pro features that has a small footprint. Pickup preferred but I can post it in the UK for around £20.

G&L Fallout Fullerton Deluxe Launch Edition USA £745 - *SOLD*
ash replied to ash's topic in Basses For Sale
That’s interesting to know, it’s a shame that this model seems to have been overlooked by a lot of players who want a shortscale bass. The bass-whisperer’s videos on YouTube of the Fallout show off how versatile it is. A genuine limited edition US bass for the price of an Indonesian made copy. As I said I will keep this or the blue one depending on which sells first….having played this one at rehearsal last night I may just keep them both….. -
Squier Classic Vibe Mustang For sale in excellent condition, usual minor marks from playing. There is a small ding to the varnish on the headstock. The back plate has been changed to a F vintage Fender type with plastic spacer and the string retainer to a Gotoh vintage style chrome type. It’s very light and easy to play and is currently wearing D’Addario medium gauge strings. There is a gigbag with it. No trades. I can post in the UK only for £15.

It would be interesting to find out if AI descriptions have helped or hindered eBay profits. As soon as I read one it puts me off buying the item even if it’s something good. Has the AI algorithm been fed sales pitch from a 1970’s Ronco or Ktel TV advert? I saw a listing for a eurorack module and AI did not describe what the item was or did at all, although it said it had shiney lights and looked nice……
