1. Pm's replied to. Still for sale. Bump
 2. I bought this 18 months ago after joining a band that used a lot of alternate tunings. I've tried to take as many pictures as possible to represent these so you know exactly what you're getting: http://s1282.beta.ph...ry/MIM%20P-Bass Pricewise I'm looking for £300. 3. Howard made a scratch plate for my Bass VI. Looks perfect and took less than a week from me sending him the old scratch plate, to the new one arriving. Thanks again.
 4.
I agree - modern bass sounds leave me cold. A background 'thump' with no definition is not bass. Melody, and adding to the song is! I did some recording recently, and TBH, was unhappy with the results. After much pushing, the bass was more defined in the mix than at first, but was still nowhere enough for me. I didn't want it out front, but clear enough to hear the lines, not just a deep thud - it's what it sounds like to me, anyway!
I feel your pain. Had the exact same experience a few months back
 5.
Don't think I've been this jealous of a bass collection before.
+1
 6.
In this sort of situation I'd pay through paypal, but use my credit card, not the "normal" paypal account method. This way you're covered by the credit act consumer protection.
Be careful with this. In the past I've had the credit card company claim that their transaction was with paypal and anything that happened beyond that was not their responsibility. A quick email of complaint and they changed their mind as a 'goodwill gesture' in my situation though ; )
 7. As I don't think anyone has mentioned Mono, I guess I will http://youtu.be/OCVnKhVK-WI
 8.
I'm going to be a little blunt here so apologies in advance... Also where do you draw the line between mix and "remix"? Do you work strictly with what is there (or not there) and in the order it occurs, or can/should you be more creative? Are you allowed to leave out parts you don't think work? Are you allowed to move instruments, or maybe even whole passages, around? IMO it's not clear-cut at all.
This is a good point though. Of all the tracks I'd consider all of them 'mixes' rather than 'remixes', maybe one of the mixes in particular, to me at least, felt like it leaned more towards being a 'remix', but that was probably just because that particular treatment given to the song took it in a different direction to the rest of the mixes. Where do you draw the line though? Staying true to the song within a particular mix is such a subjective thing.
 9.
Interesting points. But its a different discipline from composition, so it will be a different experience to find a preferred version. You can not like the track and still find the mix that either conveys the track the best to you, or seems in some way better on a technical level.
This. The track wasn't the kind of stuff I'd normally listen to, but it was interesting to hear and compare the different takes on it, and how they affect the overall feel of the content, coming at it as a complete beginner to the world of mixing. After listening to all the mixes I ended up really liking the track and appreciating the different elements that made it up, having heard it from that many different perspectives. That and the damn catchy vocals
 10. Listened and voted. Great idea this.
 11. Yeah bought it on Thursday, arrived yesterday. Not enough tension in the low-E for me (they come strung with a .084 low-E). Sounds great to me though. Apart from the low-E, general build quality, hardware, finish are all really good. Some talk on the bass VI facebook group of the quality of the bridge/neck being inferior to a real VI, and thus not able to handle a more traditional .095 low-E although having no experience of anything other than my jag baritone custom (also tuned E-E), I wouldn't know about that. Bought mine from guitar village first thing thursday morning. When I saw they had one in stock I didn't hang around having been lusting after an affordable bass VI for years. For me at least, it's an all-round really nice instrument in need of a few tweaks.
 12. I bought one yesterday. I really like it so far.
 13.
A lot of it does sound like the shop has not taken much time setting them up but the question is how much setting up should they need. For example why would the factory send out basses with high nuts and would a dealer be expected to lower it?
You make a very good point. However a lot of big chain stores don't help themselves. I was trying out guitars with a friend and one of the jazzmasters we wanted to try had the bridge pickup set so high that it was catching the pickup cover on the low E string rendering it unplayable. We pointed it out to the member of staff who said "Yeah well you can just sort that after you buy it". True enough. We went elsewhere and bought a nicely set up one. Went back in the original shop 4 weeks later and it was still on the wall, still with the same problem. Surely one of the members of staff could have spent 10 seconds lowering the pickup height? It's almost like they don't want to sell them.
 14.
Gary Willis=Ibanez. Flea=fender. Says it all if you ask me.
Is Flea renowned for his choice of badly set up instruments? Hasn't' he also used Musicman/Modulus/wal basses in his time? Does that mean they are inferior also? Confused.
 15. Bought a DBA Total sonic annihilation from Dave. Pedal was in perfect condition and arrived quickly and well packed. Thanks again.
 16. Bought a fuzzrocious rat tail from Dave. Pedal was in perfect condition and arrived quickly and well packed. Thanks again.
 17. Hey guys, firstly thanks to all of you for taking the time to listen and offer your advice and kind words, it's much appreciated.
I have a problem with the bass. The notes appear uneven to me, with lower ones being quite loud and higher ones sometimes nearly disappearing. For example, the first two notes at the very beginning are loud but the third one is very quiet.
This is something that I've noticed but couldn't put my finger on. What's the best way of fixing this (save for getting in a bass player with a more consistant technique ) A touch of compression maybe or will it possibly be cured if we pan the guitars more widely to hopefully unclutter the frequencies?
Not sure I'd have put that much grind on the bass either, or I'd try and get it to sound less like a seperate instrument alongside the bass and more like a part of the actual bass timbre...
Yeah we re-amped the bass track through a Tonehammer with the AGS on and then blended this track with the original take to keep some clarity but I don't think it's worked as well as I'd hoped.
If I had to be critical I'd say there is some conjestion in the track, its all on top of each other a tad and theres some build up in low mids as a result maybe I'd look to get the guitars panned wider, the bvs/harmonies out to the sides more as well, give that lead vocal a bigger space to work in.

Mix wise, I'd say two main problems to me are the drums and the vocals. The kit seems a bit flat and lifeless and the snare seems a little dull. The vocals could sit better in the mix, as they are buried a bit in the guitars. Maybe eq'ing/panning the guitars differently would open up more space for the vocal?

Completely agree. Love the Marr style guitars, but the lovely vocals are not shining enough. They need more sparkle and depth in the mix.
Seems the general consensus is add a bit more punch to the drums, pan the guitars out more to give the vocals more space in the mix and hopefully unclutter things a bit. I'm really glad I put this up here for advice. It's so difficult to separate yourself from these things sometimes and see the bigger picture. Hopefully I'll obtain a copy of the pro-tools sessions when it's all over in case we decide to make further changes at a later date.
 18. My band has recently been in the studio and we're having a few disagreements over the mix. I'm a abit worried that I'm a bit close to be impartial and so would be really greatful if any of you could have a listen to this track and give me your thoughts. Thanks in advance. 20. I don't think a subscription is a bad idea, but personally would be in favour of also having the option to pay for a one off ad also, or a shorter, say month long subscription. EDIT: Posted before I saw Ped's reply above
 21. +1 on the octave pedal. I like to use an OC-2 into either a frederic effects green russian or more recently the fuzzrocious grey stache.
 22. I have one of the Behringer PN-2 clones and it works great and has (so far) survived moderate use. I also bought the Dimension C clone a few days ago (Behringer CC300) but unfortunately the first setting has a slight glitch (which is a bit of a reoccuring problem according to the amazon reviews). So a bit hit and miss for me, but considering the price, I can't really complain too much.
