Ah....I don't have the 1212L cab which has an angled speaker. Mine is the BMF series.
Ah Ok Don't know those Well plan B then; get it up on something.
I was a bit concerned about placing the cab on an actual stand because surely it'll lose some bottom end will it not? My schroeder is loud enough but I prefer it at a tilt so the sound projects better towards my ears. Any thoughts?
Have you tried it on its end? The angled speaker can make a difference. I'm told.. Disconnectiong from the floor? That's an interesting question but as I always use a GRAMMA pad to disconnect my cabs from the floor and to get a clearer and less boomy sound I'm possibly not the best person to express an opinion. Try it in a stand/beer crate/chair/other cab/case/whatever and then get a long enough lead, or wireless, to wander down to the dance floor during sound check and see if it makes a significant difference. My opinion is that too much bass is way more of a problem than not enough. You get loads of middle with the 1212L anyway as it's not a bassey box.

Ishibashi Music start a International Blog
OldGit replied to basskiller's topic in General Discussion
Ishibashi is a normal family name in Japan. That blog doesn't mention music of the store so I imagine it's just a personal blog by someone called Ishibashi... -
The Paul Davison Rocksteady version is brilliant, hypnotic stuff. Perfect rhythm guitar and that rolling bassline is a classic. Spotify link here http://open.spotify.com/track/2kS5syMvx9VvVbJSHHSJNt
Hi All, Hoping for any advice from anyone that's bought from Japan. I've seen a bass I particularly like on Ebay from seller Chingo123 Firstly, was wondering if anyone's had any experience with this seller before(?) He's got 99.7% positive feedback, but who knows... Secondly, to cut costs down, I'm considering going for sea freight option of despatch. Half the the price of SAL. I'm not concerned about the delivery time 6-8 weeks, as I can wait. But has anybody had any experiences, bad or good with sea freight, is it a no-no? Much appreciate any opinions. Thanks
Chingo123 is fine. I've dealt with him in the past and would do so again. Shipping by ship is fine too - but boy does 6 weeks feel like a long time when you are waiting for your bass to show up ..

+ on a stand or a pedal box under the front for angle. Do you need it on a 1212L? I found | could hear mine very clearly all over the stage. In fact my band complained, assuming I was too loud in the mix, which I wasn't

Hamilton Hardin talks about his left handed, upside down Wood & Tronics bass.

Getting Gigs - Venue Information Source?
OldGit replied to skankdelvar's topic in General Discussion
The unsigned guide seems to be closest to the sort of thing I'm looking for - but it's £32.99 for a book with free web access thereafter
£33 is not even one gig's payment in most cases or a rehearsal studio fee. if it gets you one gig it's worth the investment. You probably know a few venues you fancy playing so check out the band list for those venues and find the other venues they play from thier websites. Then try them too. -
Wood and Tronics Minibash: Bass Direct, Sun 18/4/10
OldGit replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
Bump as it's next weekend ... I'm just back from North Italy where I managed to pop up to see Erik and Enrico in the workshop. They were just finishing off a batch of 5 basses including an interesting flat black EJ4 custom for a UK person... I took some snaps but havent had time to look at them yet .. -
Gear upgrading & sound issues: where do I go from here?

Here you go .. Laney stack on ebay- cheap -
I've never owned a P-bass. Closest I got was an old Aria SLB. Weird really - lots of my fave players use one and I love the sound. I can't stand the neck dive that has affected every single one I've tried. Balance is the first thing I look for in a bass, sound 2nd, looks 3rd. Maybe I'll find one someday that I get on with.
Do the new ones have neck dive? Lighter machineheads and wider straps are the answer
Why will it be a different band? OK so the vocalist has flounced off taking her widdling poodle with her, but you still have the entire rhythm section. And that, as any fule no, is the backbone of every good band. You're in a good position. I agree with SP, see if you can get that male vocalist back. Beg if you have to.
Oh steady on ol' chap. Only beg if you really have to. Singers have big enough egos already... You don't to start out with him thinking it's his band now, Dave

Yup If you have a great vocalist guitar plyers will be queing up to join... Rule 6B: band with couples in usually fall apart....

I like that in a Stu Hamm kind of way

I never knew The Monkees has some great basslines?
I can't believe you posted that link rather than the video. I saw that in the early days of MTV, on a night when I was ... erm ... using the music for flight (if you get my drift) and I damned near wet myself laughing. Course, I was younger then.
Ha ha I got distracted by the beard so thought the music only one might be better -
Might as well...
They said they've been hoodwinked by promotors before into playing weddings and they wont get fooled again ...
my Wedding is in October and I don't have a band yet, can you get him to play my wedding too?
I'll ask. Would you like Pete and Rog too?
Hi how about you check out some Gallien Kreuger kit. Find a second hand RB700 or 1001. Often to be found on Ebay. Item number 120549358650.
Might exceed the budget though.. Maybe one to aspire to? "It has been gigged roughly a dozen times during that time " hardly a good sales point. I suspect he means "approimately" -
He He I used to play with Mark many years ago Si...
Ah you can clear this up then. Is Mark Pino's cousin or brother? I wasn't sure. I have to go back today so I'll see if I can arrange a table at the reception for Basschatters to sit, arms crossed and say "Pino bleedin Paladino? huh! I can play Mustang Sally like that so how come he gets the 'oo gig" OK?
I always think that the rock & roll hall of fame is pretty mickey mouse anyway so why not have them in. I'll sign it! ps. Glad to see that you give Mike a bit of credit - pretty good solo on Valleri
I think Mike was a musician acting rather than the other way around. I like his solo stuff too. EG Rio Nice bass line. I thought Micky and Davy were good singers for the Monkees stuff but hardly Hall of Fame material -
Thanks OG - what don't you (and apparently a number of others here) like about Ashdown and trace gear? Are they a bit soft on definition?
There are loads of people on here that swear by them but they just don't work for me. I just can't hear them for some reason. I've had two Trace rigs and an Ashdown ABM stack and had trouble getting any clarity out of them. Could be the way I play but they just didn't work for me. Your experience may be different. -

Ashdown and Trace combos are good if you liek the sound ( I don't) but if I may I'll just bung in a word for used Peavey stuff. There's loads of it around and it's prettycheap The 1x15 combos certaily give bang for your buck (and backache) I just lourve the rock tone from my antedeluvian Combo 300 BW but most of the bass combos they made since the 80 when mine was build will do a fine job. Best to get one that has an extention speaker socket in case you need to add air shifting but even the TNT 150 will keep up with drums and things.. TKO maybe not.. or a peavey head and 2x12 cab. Cheap again and plenty of noise.
