1. A the Mighty 105 Wah! I love mine
  2.
You're definitely listening to Jazz, Precision and Stingray basses (maybe others), strung with flats and rounds, using mutes and not using mutes and EQ'ed to pieces in the studio! You shouldn't be aiming to change your sound for every song! Just get yourself a great live tone, probably with the emphasis on the mids and low mids, and concentrate on the way you play more than the sound.
+1 It has to work with your band, your line up and your gear in your gig environment and for the audience that's there. Sure change eq and stuff on teh fly but trying to get the exact sound on the record is (IMHO) a fruitless task. I'll trade "I can hear it well" for "it sounds just like the record" any time...
  3.
But then listen to the Otis Redding version - groovier still, and without all the distorted guitar overkill too!
Sure, different animals..... The guitar version rocks a pub and the horns version works great if you have the line up. Works fine on Ukuleles too Just goes to show you can't keep a good song down.
  4.
Definitely not flats. Looks like you just have to be really relaxed. And you probably don't need Slash to do the guitar solo.
Well named, mate. You just slashed all over the great bass doody build up bit ... All those tunes sound roundwound to me. Take the bright out and use a lot of finger muting to seperate the notes. Alternativley a foam mute under the strings will probably do it
  5. Oh yeah ... The Black Crowes version is de facto for pub guitar bands playing Too Hard To Handle. Great stuff.
  6. Does she play with a band?
  7. I don't suppose it took Fender/SWR long to decide to endorse her
  8. I'm keeping that link for the next time someone says clothes and presentation were never that important to creditable bands like the 'oo
  9. Price drop to £475 plus post
  10.
I usually use Ultimate Guitar etc for tab... and youtube as you suggested. Hadn't seen Chordie before so that's now on my favourites list. Just I'm a bit pressed for time to get all of the set list learned as real life keeps interveaning in my playing time. Luckily there are so many clever helpful people on BC to help with these problems. Thanks again
Take cheat sheets to the first few rehearsals, make notes of how they actually play things as they will almost certainly be different to the records. No one will expect you to be able to play their whole set their way right from the start unless you have a live recording and video of them playing everything
  11.
Perfect... that's great I'll put something together around that. Many thanks OG.
You are welcome. Generally if you want the chords for something then google: "Chordie name of song" Several sites will come up including Chordie. You can usually find enough clues to get most of the way there ... It's also worth searching for "name of song bass" on youtube as someone may have done a play along or swift lesson or a decent cover and you can watch what they do.
  12. Played Glastonbury Festival* in 08 and 09 Loads of fun. We had to switch from saying clockwise and anticlockwise to Deisiel and Widdershins because of the high density of Wicca people in the audience * Glastonbury Fruit and Veg autumn produce festival ceilidh in the Town Hall that is ... in October .. Close though
  13. It's not that hard but note that the bass doesn't start 'til the last line of the first chorus. "They call it Nutbush City Limits" The band may not have noticed that and may expect you in with the drums. It's worth asking. Chords: http://www.megachords.com/piano/music/1032...city-limits.htm I've played this with bands that just want the root notes all the way through. That works OK and is the simplest approach. However to add a little style, and to copy the original, note that on the record the bass doubles a part of the keyboard pattern in the verses and plays those swoopy slides before "they call it Nutbush City Limits" in all choruses. Have fun.
  14.
Put it this way, if you were selling an expensive Warwick bass and didn't know anything about Jan I/II/III I'd be a 'little' uneasy. Seriously it relates to sellers knowing specific terminology for what they are selling... 'stack-knobs' may mean different things to different people but if someone were selling a vintage Jazz that had this feature and hadn't the foggiest idea what it was then alarm bells might ring!
Phew! It's a Warwick thing Yup, I agree.

  16. "or whether it has a JAN I or JAN II nut" Er whassat? All of this sounds great, except that phone checking thing in the OP says my mobile phone number is in Russia ... Also remember that most people are honest and fair minded but check their references and all that other stuff anyway.

    Weddings
We've just been asked to play a first dance at a wedding, Run by Snow Patrol then stop after 1st chorus say "this is sh*t" and play the dance version of Crack the Shutters by Snow Patrol, yes that's the dance-mix version. We've advised the bride & groom we don't think it'll work as it may seem a bit of an in joke, but wondering what the seasoned wedding band players think? Been playing weddings for years myself, and we'll probably try because we don't want to appear arsey about not playing it. Any thoughts?
They are paying, you've done your bit by saying you don't think it will work. However what I'd do is have the bride and groom storm the stage yelling "Stop! stop! stop! This is sh1t!!" so it is clear it's their choice to stop playing it and not yours ... A subtle dfferrence and lot more appropriate, IMV. Then it's her fault and not yours if it bombs ..
  18.
Still, the way the mag is going I will, without doubt, be renewing my subscription. I think the quality and professionalism has improved hugely since this thread was started over a year ago.
+1
  19.
Not really - been talking about doing it for 3 years. Done Living on a prayer with the band for the last 2 years. Problem I have is finding the time. Btw they were pretty good at the O2 - although I have seen them 7 times now...
Well it's good stuff.. Will you be doing the look as well as the music?
  20. They got you then BON JOVI GIGS TO TRIGGER FRESH WAVE OF PUB BANDS
  21.
That's really lovely Si. Good luck with the sale. Buy with confidence people. As everyone probably knows Si is lovely to deal with.
Cheers Ash .. come round and meet the ol' girl if you are passing, see if you can describe the vibe better than me PS liek the Steampunk avatar
  22.
who can ever be sure of something like that!
Have to see someone playing it ... Fingers = Scratchplate Pick = pickguard I guess it may be a slap guard .... Edit: He's realised it's a Precision ..
  23.
more Chrissie Hynde than Suzi Quattro .... Are you sure, Simon? Suzi born 1950, Chrissie born 1951! Love the bass by the way.
Well Suzi is more kinda clean and a little too "Micky Most" pop, nice and all but Chrissie sings "Creep" with the proper words.. Don't see Suzi doing that, somehow
  24.
If I see one more sexy sunburst precision here that I can't afford, I'm going to cry.
Sorry! My other one is less money if that helps
  25.
I have one exactly like that, colour and all. I checked the headstock, and I can confirm that it doesn't say "jazz" anywhere, and that the big white patch is infact a pickguard.
Ah are you sure it's not a scratchplate?
