1.
I could have a go, but I've got limited experience with Wordpress and the like but yeah, I'd be definitely willing to co-operate with you. Carl
Coooooooool!
 2. After long and careful thought, a fair few outings and many discussions with Enrico I'm going to change the pickups on my Ergon. Dolf is making me an "even more" traditional P/J set as the orginals are just a tad too hi-fi for me. Enrico is a prefectionist though and anything that causes any drop from 100% happy from his clients fires him into action. So I'm just waiting for the replacements to arrive. This will be a no-cost change. All part of the great customer service and care you get with these guys...
 3.
I could do that. I could also design some merchandise for W&T. :nudge:
Oooh Now there's an idea
 4.
Despite being a Precision player for the past 20 years I'm liking your Wood & Tronics better than all your 'real' Precisions.
I'll have to see if Paul H will do a Wood and Tronics Ergon splat tee for me The seductive curves of the hot red Italian in the house I had a bit of a heart stopper at the last jam session I attended. One of the "grown up" bass players followed me and strapped on the jam bass (nice Japanese P Special) but didn't twig that the amp end jack on the lead was pulled out slightly to allow for silent plugging in.. Hence he thought the bass was faulty and swiftly swapped it for my W&T .. It sounded fine but that was one of those moments ... I'll take The Rat next time (tonight) just in case
 5.
I have the identical bass to this but a lefty! I can assure any potential buyers that before I butchered mine with a duncan, thumbrest and bridgecover it was completely amazing. Best P I ever played. Hand on heart.
Yeah it's really nice. I have the devil/angel shoulder thing going on. The Angel is saying I don't get on very well with maple boards, that I am sorted for keeper P basses and that I need the money, the devil's suggesting various ways to keep this one.. Must....resist.....
 6. Hey P bass fans .. Have you seen Paul H's new "P Splat" t shirts? Link to Paul's T Shirt site My current crop of P's include my Japanese modded 62Ri keeper (The Rat) One Sid 70's style that's just sold and is off to Ireland and the current for sale group: two 57RI's, a "Standard" in sunburst and a 62 re-issue in Vintage White. The Vintage white looks like a white bass that's done 300 gigs in Ronnie Scott's before the smoking ban. Fortunately it doesn't smell like it has I msut say the sunburst 57RI is getting more exercise than it should as I need to sell it but I can't put it down .. Oh dear...
 7. Funny how Blues guitarists 9even the kids) are stuck back in the 60's & 70's when 20 minute solos were considered short ....
 8.
I couldn't remember which it was, so I edged my bets, Steve.
Is this him/her?
 9. Nice one. Dancing away in the office to that one..
 10. http://open.spotify.com/user/jazzhat/playl...LZCUSEDT73YPCy4 Brilliant! There's Funk Brothers chatting about the tracks and the tracks, instrumentals, etc etc etc. Thanks to Radcliffe and Maconie for mentioning it on their R2 show tonight and pointing the way. (even if Maconie did dis the Baritone Sax on heatwave )
 11. Ah yeah sorry I got into the web stuff as usual and forgot to say... I'd say setting it up as a business is way over the top. If all you are concerned about is a visit from the tax man then, firstly it's not hard to do self employed tax or add it to your day job income. Sure you'll have to do a tax return but that's not hard. So just keep your individual records and make sure you have totally accurate and believable stuff like a full list of gigs, rehearsals, mileage, costs of everything on the MU list etc. They when you fill in your tax return you can allow for all that - as an individual. An acountant will help smooth the way with the revenue and earn their fee in the stuff they can come up with to allow against any earnings so don't shy away from getting one. If you form a business/official partnership and then the band spilts you will have a headache worse than a divorce ...
 12. Pictures? I have a feeling these are well respected basses so you may want to consider having it fretted again instead of selling.. I don't know that model specifically but most basses are finished with paint that can be polished like car paint so take all the bits off and get out your t-cut then finish off with nice polymer pilish such as MER or AutoGlym. Aged and pitted chrome bits may respond to Solvol Autosol butmay juts looks cool aged....
 13.
For a band website, it's pretty simple isn't it? just a home page with a link to your myspace for listening to demos, a short description of the band, a photo gallery, contact info. What else do you need? I haven't bothered with the meta tags etc yet but creepjoint.co.uk took about 10 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. It's not really an example of a site we're trying to market the band through (just a simple place to get to all our other pages) but I think it has all the basics you need.
Myspace and Facebook are fantastic for orginals bands and maybe some pub bands. However a function band needs a totally different approach to marketing and a proper website.
 14.
see, now horn players don't give a damn if you do this to them...and I almost always will do so. In fact, the only thing that would hold me back doing this..if I felt it was applicable, is that gtrs have less of a clue here and would get in the way and stuck around 4th and 5ths and the root It just shows that your know your way round sequences and have had a bit more of a listen to things that the norm.. so jams and rehearsals are perfect for it...IMO. Play with a decent keyboard player on a few jazz dates will soon get you up to speed... or ..listen to some Richard Tee..... DO IT NOW.. building blocks..!!! To the OP... if they say this is just a 12bar and the gtr is on his eleventh solo..just ask him for a differnet turnaround..and when he goes duh...!! tell him... or don't...either way, you'll teach him something...hopefully
Was the first part for me JTUK? When I have my big horn on nothing throws me Anyway .. for the audition generally it's best to play less rather than more in da bloose bass. Blues guitarists, even more than normal guitarists, seem to think that the rest of the band, music and irritants like words, are just there to build anticipation for their next 12 verse solo. but I love blues and play it too...
 15.
If you are the only thing underpinning a 12 bar, then stacked 4ths can be interesting... you might freak the guitar like this, so only in solos, unless he is comfortable with this..
Ah! two of my favourite passtime - both stacked 4ths and worrying guitarists However I'd probably wait 'til you get the gig before trying that either
 16.
Thanks a lot, did a little search before making this thread but didn't come across that one. Some good advice in there, I guess I need to just keep listening to 12 bar stuff until I finally get what it's all about. Cheers again.
Have a listen to some of the ones listed on that thread, especially the ones everyone plays that are not straight 12 bars; specifically Stormy Monday and Need your love so bad. They are very well known and popular with blues bands and will bite your bum if you don't have some idea of the odd way the chords go. They are certainly not straight I - IV - V structures. If you know them you'll score brownie points from the off.
 17. Hey DP, good luck with that ,mate. We covered a very similar situation for stevie a while back Thread on Blues band standards..

 19.
If you are going to make a serious business of the band then sorting out the web site should be maximum priority. If your band income relies on getting more bookings than you need a web site that works for everyone and that now includes people who want to look at your site on mobile devices. Lets face it there's plenty of bands in the market place and if someone looking to book a band for their event can't make your web site work, then they'll just go on to an band who's suite does work for them. And while you're at it sort out the vertical scaling of the photo - it's not doing you any favours. TBH it always amazes me that people aren't prepared to put some money and effort into getting their web site functioning and looking good - and doubly so when they are expecting to use it to make money for their business. Simply owning an application that purports to create web pages does not qualify you to actually be able to make something usable. You wouldn't hire someone to dep in your band simply because they own the correct instrument without firrst checking that they could actually play it!
+1 Whether you register your band as a business or not, you are still marketing a service and it is imperative that your website does the job. If you are offering a professional band you need professional marketing. A self built website can do it, and there are, plenty of examples around, but you do need it to be good and effective. Otherwise as BigRedX says, it's way too easy for the client to go back to google and move to the next band along... You need to convince your band that investing a bit in decent photography and a good website will bring far greater rewards... or learn WordPress CMS yourself
 20.
I'd be willing to provide help/designs/coding for the website if you need it, TS.
Hi Carl. There is clearly a need for a function band website template. Could you build one any BC member could use? I'd be happy to help.
 21.
No argument there, OG, but as Jamesemt mentioned 'problems with his software', I figured it was a case of DIY (for now anyway?) and wanted to point out there are at least alternatives to Word, etc!
Sure, sorry that sounded a bit brusque. James and I covered this subject way back and I suspect like a lot of people he has a problem convincing the band to invest in a decent Website.
 22. Try Bristol Rocks, sorry I mean You Wanna Play ... http://www.youwannaplay.co.uk/latest%20activity?blog=6
 23.
There are better (and even free) ways to put a respectable website together.
Sure but pay a pro about 2 wedding band fee's worth of money and you can get a great CMS driven effective website that drives your bookings hard enough to pay for itself easily in a few months and then generates bookings for decades... Re tax: if you talk to the Musicians' Union they will give you huge list of stuff you can offset against tax. If you read it carefully and keep accurate books you will probably get a refund at the end of the year. You certainly won't be paying much out.
 24.
There's a lot of threads here about going pro/wedding bands/function bands etc..... Get yourself a good accountant, make sure you claim for everything, Never undersell yourself and get your website sorted out.... the links on the left hand side don't work for me
What he said, except the links work for me. Jay you use a Mac don't you? Wedding thread
