  1. I would say put it down to one of those nights. I've had probelms with wooden stages but it's easier to cut the bass back rather than try and find something that may not be there. For ease I put castors on a Trace 4x10 years ago. It sounded dreadful. It just lost everything so I took them off again. Could well be the same effect with your rubber feet. I keep my rigs on wheeled trolleys in the garage and they all sound thin but take them out and put them on the floor, even outdoors and they are normal. Yesterday I played a local festival using the house Trace rig, a 1x15 combo and a 2x10 cab. It sounded aweful standing directly in front of it. The 15-inch seemed to fart down at G and F on the E-string and it was so clanky. I was in two minds whether to use my own or risk it. A number of the other bands used the house rig and it sounded great out front so I left mine in the car and went for it. Still sounded weird on stage but good result where it mattered.

Next you'll be wanting to buy directly for Fender, Gibson, EBMM, Warwick, Ampeg, Ashdown, EBS, Boss, Electro Harmonix, Line 6, etc., etc. If you could then their overheads would be so great that the prices would go up dramatically to cover the costs and you would save nothing. A small company like Schroeder can probably afford to do it at the moment but once they get larger and have a dealer network it will it will certainly stop.

I'm not sure how to describe it but with a cable the bass is crystal clear but with the 172 it's just .... If it were an optical system I would say it was out of focus. It's put me right off using it again. Maybe faulty I'll have to see who Senheisser recommend to service them.

What you need is a balanced (screened twisted pair, same as mic cable) with Ring/Tip/Sleeve jacks on either end.

I was looking at it earlier. I'm certain it would do the job however it would be a bit of a bodge on the cabling side. I think John said he wanted a single ring/tip/sleeve jack cable to plug into the footswitch. There's no way you could do that with this as the two switching elements are completely isolated from one another.

Cheers[/quote] Ashdown ABM requires latching switches which connect the signalling wires to ground so there are no volts available down the cable to drive LEDs. I use one of these: Latching switches, LEDS, battery inside, Ring/tip/sleeve jack socket. Not made any more but they do come up on ebay from time to time.
  9. Many footswitches just make a connection to ground so there are no volts to use for LEDs. I have a dual footswitch that uses a separate battery to drive the LEDs. You haven't said what the amp is or what functions you are trying to switch.

  12. Before you cut them off I would check with Epi directly. It could be that the speaker they have sent you is not completely to Epi's spec. I am amazed at the tardiness of the response of all concerned. If you had been on tour and this was your only cabinet just what would they have done to get you out of the mire. I would have been hopping up and down and shoutting by now. When my Ashdown ABM blew-up after 11 months I sent it back on the Monday and it was fixed and back with me on the Thursday. That's the sort of service I expect.

I am certain that the DD neck is the same size/profile as the Lakland Joe Osborn Jazz so if you can get to try one of those it'll be a godd indicator. I'm just loving this bass. It feels just right and sounds awesome although this one has the Dark Star I'm sure the standard Fralin pick-up version is equally as good, if not even more P-sounding. I got mine on ebay from the USA. I don't think anyone stockes the DD in the UK. I found a good store in France that had them in stock also I believe that Thomann now do them, otherwise try the USA.

    Lets get the terminology right. Stereo is Left/Right Bi-Amp is Hi/Lo for either you need a 2-channel power amp or 2 single channel power amps. If you Bi-Amp in Stereo you 2 x 2-channel power amps. I used to run a Trace GP12SMX using the crossover outputs into a 2-Channel 300W+300W power amp into a 1x15 and a 2x10. Total waste of time. It was much better running a full bandwidth output into each channel and each cabinet. Clearer and more focussed.

Chris[/quote] I think there a few anomolies with your maths. Assuming that the class of '75 left school at the age of 16, or possible 18, they would now be closer to 50 than 30s - 40s. However by now they could well have a greater disposable income, as children may well have left home and consequently in a position to splash out. Also at that time there really was only Fender, Rick and Gibson of which Fender was the acknowledged brand leader. I also disagree about the class of '75 making these documentaries. Far more likely to be the class of '85. If I wanted to buy a Fender of my youth I'd need to remortgage the house. Finally regarding the 17-year old, do you speak from personal experience?

We ideally need somewhere close to a network railway station and 5-10 minutes from the M25. Perhaps you London types should hold your own Bash. On a more practical note, a venue will cost. Assuming we follow the principle layed down at previous national Bashes and charge £10 we should hopefully cover the cost, however in the event that it doesn't, who is going to underwrite the loss?
