A mate once bodged a P bass neck on to a metal dustbin. It looked a damn sight cooler and didn't cost $2500.
Maybe this is art too?
Luke's thought of the day.... preamps don't come up for sale secondhand that often do they?
True but in a forum where most guys venturing under the hood would rather pay a bloke to build them the simplest of looms than solder one up for themselves, it's hardly surprising. Are more people choosing to go passive these days? My basses are a pretty mixed bunch but once I found out how to build a passive bass boost circuit there was no looking back.
I put this up a year ago http://www.facebook....96¬if_t=like
Cool. If this deal falls through he can offer it up to all but one (maybe two) from the comments list.

Nah. That's so wrong it's still wrong.
... Maybe there's one or two out there who are being a little artistic with the truth lol!
Yeah I guess so.
oh. I was thinking more along the lines of this.
Ha I love it. You're hired.
Rich if Osprey ever want to endorse me... I'm not in a band at the moment having just moved, and when I was it was just at church, I would get you no real exposure- though I would wear one of your osprey t shirts, would not make your brand look cool or good, any videos I made on youtube would be let down by my odd scottish-essex hybrid accent and my lack of skill in playing, oh yeah and i'm probably not good looking enough for anything bigger than a thumbnail on your website. I could however use my design and copy writing skills to give you some GREAT advert copy.... "Look Luke's Osprey Licks" or "People don't listen to what I say, Until I play, my Osprey custom Pingray" or the more general "The best thing from Aberdeen since the oil money" ....
Haha nice one Luke. I shall bear that in mind.

I wonder why we are skirting the fact that some "artists" get endorsed simply because it looks good.... to be like their heroes. Ok the sponsor may feel like they are getting something in return but I've seen kids (no offence) with endorsed by such and such in their sig and you think "why, you've only been playing for 5 minutes". Hell at times on TB you can't throw a free set of stings in the air without hitting one of the great endorsed.
Yes, but you didn't have to tell everyone.
Oh I think I did.
Tell you what Rich, I'll give him £300 for it now which he can then pass straight on to you; it'll save everyone a lot of bother.(smilies - why can't I get smilies at work?) Ah,'72s.......*sigh*
Haha I think he may see through that plan somehow.
Lovely, thanks for that, hope you have a great time at the w/e, a few of those Murphys and a lot of chat! Oh, and some bass tinkering, of course!
I'm sure we will. The family's away to Belladrum festival for the weekend so I've got the place to myself. Much bass-nerdy-ness will ensue.

Well here's a turnip for the books. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the very first bass I ever played and learned a tune on was my step-dad's Ric over 25 years ago. He and my mum split up a year or two later and I probably only ever bumped into him 5 or 6 times over the years after that. Well, we recently got back in touch again through fb and.... Here is the bass in question... a 4001. It will be 40 years old this Sept. Cost him £259 back in '72. It's completely original and all still going strong. He's taking it 'round to mine this weekend coz he wants me to have a look at it as the E string can sometimes pop out of the nut. The last guy to have a look at the nut was a guy in a repair shop in London back in '72... a bloke by the name of Dan Armstrong. Oh aye, and the other bit of news about it is, he confided in me tonight that he's decided to leave it to me in his will.... I had to tell someone.
... and doing some Mark D Philips improvements on it.
Haha he's set his own standard in Basschat mythology.

Standard Fender types are normally about the same size but some may vary by plus or minus a mil or two. Wizards for example have been reported as being a smidge tight for some pickguards. edit : there you go, beaten to it

Set-Up Question - New Strings Better?
Ou7shined replied to spongebob's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hopefully he will give it time to bed in and give it a few final tweaks before handing it back to you. So unless you specifically want fresh zingy sounding strings there's little benefit in changing strings that are pretty new anyway. -
.... Lots of people loved the finish when I showed it to them, and said they would love to own it, but those same people are now refusing good trade offers for it. Its amazing how two-faced people have been with me in Pms. .... And to people who think they would look silly with the finish, it makes you look fun, not silly!
I think a fair percentage of "that looks awesome mate" on here is simply lip service... and with you being a mod you are probably open to more sycophantism than most. I am a creative person who hates to follow the flock and am drawn to almost anything unique or left-field.... that's what this bass says to me. I'm not scared to be myself.

If the fingerboard has had some previous work done to it, how much of it is left? This to me would be a factor as to whether or not to buy.

Cutting and filing bone creates one of the most god awful smells ever - reminds me of that burning smell the dentist sometimes makes drilling a tooth for a filling. Blech! It's a necessary evil though.

Modulus Funk Unlimited - Is this a Bart or Bassline MM pickup?
Ou7shined replied to Me And My Bass's topic in Bass Guitars
At the moment it looks like neither. I've not seen a Bart without the logo but if they do exist, the underside of the pup should have a lot of copper plating on it. -
Buy a 4 string, then take your other half out for a meal and a show on the change... then break the news to her.
