1. Deal was struck this morning but the OP decided to sell to Platypus later this afternoon for extra money.
2.
If you've got access to a Dremmel type tool, use one of those with a small cutting disc to cut a flathead slot in the screw. That or use it to cut the strap button off leaving the screw to be removed with mole grips.
This is exactly what I'd do... but then I have a Dremel.
3.
molegrips.....
Presumably it's down inside the button.
4. #2 but it would be better if you could cut or file the groove.
5.
After 5 mins of running the amp i have noticed 2 things… 1. the buzz is still there but has grown quieter. 2. The fan seems far far louder than normal.
Assuming your not just noticing the fan more because you have become very aware about the amp, it leaves a couple of possibilities : it is running faster because a smart bit of you amp is telling it to because something is getting hotter than before (I don't know what smart safety features your amp has) or a fault has occurred which has caused more power than normal to be routed to the fan. Both those scenarios require a qualified tech to have a butchers. Have a peek inside (as icastle suggested) to check all looks ok (as well as solder joints, look out for signs of overheating around components) and if necessary give it a hoover out to clear any dust and crap out that's been sucked in which could in theory cause shorts.
6. Try it in a different part of the house to try and eliminate local interference first. Haha I just noticed you're a mod now Shep. It seems like only yesterday you were a fresh faced young man buying up all the cheap pedals etc. Now look at you.
7. Ah our overpricing German friend. Nice concept though... if a little heavy handed.
8.
Apologies - SB1, sunburst, maple neck, black crinkle metal scratchplate, black crinkle bridge, MFD pickup, chipped and slightly beat up finish (not me). TI flats & I love it. just like this this one (not mine) other than mine has black plastic vintage radio style knobs and the gold sticker on my neckplate is wider with more patent numbers (obsessive or what) and the finish on this one is in far better condition. Then again I didn't have to pay for relicing, it came with it.
Sweet. I have TIs on my L-1000. Sounds more P than a P. I'm also constructing a wee project using an SB-1 pup (well the split P from an SB-2) and a MFD humbucker you might want to check out in the build diaries section. I've moved the SB-1 pup up closer to the bridge and I'm installing a series/parallel switch on it.
9. Do they have a cooling off period?
10. All I can say from here is that it's a post '80s body because of the control plate (or lack there of). The stamp should be in the neck pocket. I wonder if it has been painted over?
11.
Fully agree, but, as with all these things its subjective - My 85 G&L (with the by Leo Fender label and non pointy headstock) was way cheaper than Fender P or J at the time. Its like a P bass on steroids, stays in tune and for me does it all. Had this one for 20 out of 38 years bass playing, its staying with me until I play my last note. Would like to find another one.
What ya got?
12. I bet that Twokay sounds sweet with Hotwire halfs. (I have TI flats on my Wunkay just now but I'd prefer Hotwire flats) How old is the body?
13. Have you seen Les Claypool's new Caps Lock key? What a POS. Worst thing is, he's like all "ooh look at me" as he clatters away on it the same as he did in the 90's.
14.
Not to that extent unless they own RBS...
15.
I give you the ugly sticks.
GW will have a fit if he hears about this.
16. What just happened???
17. Yeah but those highly motivated and uber skilled technicians need to pay the bills too.
18.
I have an OLP and... blah blah blah
19. Playing along to Celebrity Mastermind at home the other evening, imagine my dismay when they didn't agree with some of my more "robust" answers. Still, I respect their right to stick to their stoopid correct ones.
20. Pah. You're jedi mind tricks will not work on me... 8658 5685 68...
21. The Cirrus' have 5 knobs so I'm going to change my vote from Grind to Zephyr and side with Jon who is always right.
22.
.....I was given a Peavey bass a long while back from my uncle and never quite found out its make....
Did he find in his attic? (site in-joke) Looks kinda like a Grind to me but more pics would help.
23. I would have thought sorting the bridge would be the route to take... unless you're not happy with the pup(s)
24.
....This is why it's necessary (IMV) to have a bit of a collection going, so as to cover all the basses (sic). To wit; Active, passive, single coil, Humbucker, 1,2,3 or more pick-ups, piezo etc. And that's ignoring construction, material choices and obvious stuff like frets/fretless/half fretted and number of strings / tuning
Yep that's what I tell the Mrs. too.
