1. It's all quite easy to sus out with a multimeter.
2.
I hear there isn't much between these and the top dollar Stingrays. I'd like to try a couple and see if thats true! It wouldn't surprise me after seein how good the Squier Classic Vibe jazz bass is!
Are you trying to give Pete an embolism... or have you just not read this through.
3. As the bridge position can be quite arbitrary, the most accurate measurement would be taken from the 20th fret centre to the centre of the pup or it's pole pieces if it has them.
4.
That's an idea I didn't actually consider... I just thought about selling it on and getting something like a mighty mite, with it's solid reliable canadian maple Haha

The headstock on your '51 Shuker is special indeed... I've gotyet more ideas swimming around in my head now! My fave headstock shape ever is a peavey unity series I believe... Can get *close* with the alden but it'd be a bit too thin. Either way I could make something I'm happy with!
Cheers. I was actually thinking of this style headstock from the material you have to work with there...
That project of yours is really impressive... can't believe it looks so good! And I be the feeling of satisfaction beats buying from a shop eh? Haha
You betcha. I'm currently making "the G&L they never made" - what a buzz.
5.
You don't even need to refinish it, just rub the neck down with 1200 grade wet and dry.....
True but if he's restyling the headstock.....
6.
Them subs were not that poplar ou7shined or they wouldn't of stopped making them sorry I will get my coat....
The problem was they were too poplar.
7. My SUB was poplar.
8. If the neck that's on there is a good one then why not just rub it back and re-finish it in satin lacquer and re-shape the Batman headstock - it looks like there's enough wood there to carve a decent Shuker style headstock. It could save a lot of hassle. Besides god knows what neck pocket dimensions Mr Alden uses but I doubt it will be exactly Fender size. I've used 2 Dr Parts necks in the past. One was very good and the other needed a complete overhaul to be acceptable. The second one put me off the brand probably forever now. Squier necks can be picked up for £30-50 and are usually quite good for donor necks. Don't be put off about customising an "lowly" Alden. For a real "silk purse out of a sows ear" story click here. Tell me it wasn't worth the hassle.
9. I think it will be a great project. Of course you won't be getting much definition from the neck pup (perfect for dub) but mixed with the bridge pup it should be fine.
10. Sure looks like a Mustang... with a humbucker coversion.
11. Got any pics of this bass so we can get a better idea of the situation?
12. Often 3 wires on a passive pup indicates that it can be coil tapped.
13. True. I didn't see your edit of the spec. There looks to be enough of a difference between these and their big brothers (slab body, J width neck) to not encroach upon business. In fact I can see why they've done it now.
14. Presumably they are confident that it won't come close to a 2eq 'ray and subsequently impact on sales. Either that or they've not learned their lesson from the SUB.
15. I know what you're up to BB5. You've run out of ideas and now you want to pick everyone's brains for fresh GAS.
16. I play both given the circumstances. I also have basses with both options.
17. I can't see it hanging around long at this price.
18. Ooh binding. You don't see many of these.
19.
I think that I would remove the scratch plate and it would them look cool. Don't know what to make of the headstock logo tho'. Edit. It reminds me of Movember.
Or it wants to be one of those 118 eejits.
20.
....Personally and this could open the can of worms I reckon the PUPs and strings can have more of an influence on tone than what the body is made of.
You won't be getting any arguments from me about that.
21. Dunno but I doubt it's ever graced Drummond's with it's presence.
22. How about one of these for your collection? See where it's located?
23. I'm not digging that p/g.
