About 5mm from strings
That's not too bad. 4mm would be nice and maybe less if you are a light player.

Looks fine.

Could be anything from that description ... including a severely wounded genuine Ric.
I do like the bass tone on this album. A mate at work (who has built around 17 guitars/basses) is an EMG pickup fan and the first thing he mentioned was that the bass tone is an EMG one. No idea what bass it is but 'tis a nice sound.
Sounds just like a 'ray in places to me. I downloaded it (by alternative means ) today and managed to get over half way through before wandering off and listening to some City of Ships elsewhere instead.

One fret buzz on one note, on one string
Ou7shined replied to 2pods's topic in Repairs and Technical
Find something small with a very straight edge then rock it back and forth on the frets in the area you think the problem is - it will soon become apparent what's wrong. You may just have a worn fret which is lower than the rest. Again a fret dress should sort it. I believe 7string is in your neck of the woods (your location is a bit vague) and might be up for the task. -

Btw the correct name for it is the Schecter Model-T.
thanks for your input m8 must sort that camera out and get some pics sorted.Just out of interest you don,t know how much the leftie went for?
Sorry I don't. I don't expect that it fetched too much seeing as the relative amount of potential buyers would have been low... unlike a right hander.

Best replacement Jazz pickups for reggae?
.... Had Barts too in the past, found them a little thin as passive but not bad with a preamp, i have barts in my now Laky 5501 with a preamp.....sound alright but not as good as the passive Lindy's did in my JO5 in my opinion...
That's funny because I find Barts to be darker (hence dubby) and Fralins to be crisper while still maintaining the bright lows (absolutely awesome in rock setting)... but then that just my opinion. -
Your absolutley right of course, that's what I meant to say oops, I've been playing double bass too long! What I was rather badly attempting to ask was is there a pickup that will fit into a J pickup hole but that sounds and acts as a P pickup.
You might get some joy out of a split coil J - Fralin for example. The potential is there but I've not actually heard for myself how close they would be to a P to say go for it.
Hi all I have long loved the Jazz bass but really want to get the P bass sound going on, very much like the PJ precision basses I have tried but was wondering is it possible to add a pickup into the bridge pickup position on a Jazz bass that just slots in or would I need to get it routed for a regular P pickup?
Traditionally the P pup would go where the neck pup is. Either way it would need routing.
hi i wondered if anyone could help me put a value to a schecter robert de leo signature bass as i am thinking of selling. It was imported from the states in about 2002 it is an active bass with emg p-j pick-ups and also has the schecter diamond series lockable hardcase.I know they no longer make this model and i personally got it imported. Will try to get some pics up later of this great bass but just wanted to know what a fair price would be.It has never been gigged and i would say in mint condition.Any help would be gratefully appreciated
I was after one of these for years and therefore I know that these never come up... like never. Since I was looking for one, about 5 other seekers have come after me on here and still one has never turned up (in the end I just built myself one). I've even had a continual ebay search running this whole time. A lefty came up on the bay a couple of months ago and that's it. I say rather than ask a fixed price for it, put it on ebay because you may get more than you think for it because of it's absolute rarity value.

Accepted. Pax. Can't believe they've only put a 2 core on each. That's missed a wee series/parallel trick for the tone enthusiasts.

.... kind of like these ones I found by googling split coil version
In which case i have no idea what you are talking about. One end is the pickup---- no soldering iron there the other end ---solder connections have i missed an end confused skez
Ok maybe it's a different type I've not seen then. Mine has a copper base plate (earth) and the wires are soldered to 2 protruding pins which go down into the pup and connect with the coils (heating these may release the coil wire inside). I'm only trying to help here and don't deserve your sarcasm. I was merely opening up the possibility that the pup had been soldered at the pup end at some point.
Thanks but in this case the hookup leads were at least 10 inches long and I only had to make two quick solder connection on each (hot and Earth) there is no way I have heated up the pickup. skez
Haha I was talking about t'other end.

I have a Bart J pup which was damaged by excessive solder heat. It seemed to melt the connection inside, but as the pup is resin sealed it's impossible to find out for sure without collateral damage.
I once read a hi-fi magazine article that made that very point . . . . so their solution was to run a hi-fi system from a car battery, which actually makes some sort of sense given that it would be a nice stable, noise-free source of DC power. But I think they spoiled it by using a mains inverter, which are notoriously noisy things. But that was a long time ago and people are not so daft these days . . . are they? http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/02/08/th...e-in-the-world/
I hope it was a Bugatti battery and not one off a Mondeo or something.

Fed up with Fenders? Maybe this is the solution...
