  1. Ah, Ray Cooper, maybe..? (Watch the reaction of the other players..!)
  2. Carmine Appice, with his enormous 'in your face' 24" double bass drums.
  3. I would suggest, from long experience, that this is patently untrue. Not to decry the benefits of reading, but the Knowledge can, and is, put to Good Use by thousands of musicians, all over the Planet, every day, with nothing written at all, nor understood even if it were. Ears, on the other hand, can be useful. Knowing, from experience, how chords are constructed, and why, rhythmic notions to recognise different styles, and play to adapt to them, improvising over a piece never before heard... All of this, and more, much more, can, and is, achieved with no idea of notation, of any sort. Reading is Good, but it is only a part of Music Theory, and maybe not the most important part.
  4. It seems strange to me to see so many taking 'Music Theory' to be reading, or even sight-reading..! Although connected, one may be very proficient in theory without being able to read any notation whatever. I would suggest, even, that some knowledge of theory would be far more useful than reading (although both are Good, obviously...).
  5. Isn't there a question of consent in there somewhere..?
  6. Couldn't the employees make a bid for it..? If it's making a profit, there's surely a bank that could help with funding loans or such. Not an option..?
  7. Hofner Verithin Number of strings: 4 Number of frets : 22 Scale length : 30" Number of pickups: 2 Number of controls (switches/knobs) : 4(2v/2t...)
  8. Hmm... Turns out it's not as easy as all that..!

  10. ... and 'I'm saving up to buy one, and hope to have enough soon.'
  11. I was gifted an active six-string fretless by Our Eldest, several years ago now, but it has been 'confiscated' by Our Youngest. It has replaced his Cort five-string, and has been in regular use as his sole instrument ever since. He struggles, now, to use any of my four-string basses. I'm not sure that I agree that there are songs that 'don't suit' a fretless; he uses it exclusively for everything, and has quite a varied repertoire.
  12. The equipment itself is compatible, assuming it to be in good working order, but may not give the same result as the 'high-end' stuff you're used to. As it's for practice, I'm supposing that it'll be set up at one end (or side...) of the locale, facing you, not facing in the more usual 'FOH' direction. You may find that mic feedback (larsen...) sets the limit as to how high volume can go. The useful volume limit will be set by how hard-hitting your drummer is (if you have a drummer...). I would recommend finding a decent technicien for the initial setting up and cabling, just to be sure that the simple mistakes of plugging the right cable into the right equipment are avoided. This is important regarding the cables from the PA amp to the PA speakers, as they have to be of suitable section, and the 'phase' correctly respected. With these amps, it's usual to use bare wires to the terminal posts on the amp, which can go very wrong if not done properly. Good quality connections here will pay dividends; any skimping or ignorance here will ensure lots of 'magic smoke'; these amps are very solid until they go wrong, when they are a pig. Be very attentive, then, to the correct connections to the speakers. Hope this helps.
  13. I had a cat that could do that, too. ...
  14. Have a scout around here... Cambridge Music Technology : Mixing Secrets Resources ... A lot of very high quality, and varied, stems; very useful for exactly what you're looking for, I think.
  15. It has its moments. Several 'off' days then, like buses, a whole lot of posts and subjects come along at once. Although, as a Moderator there, I'm rarely overwhelmed with recalcitrant posters arguing vehemently over string gauges, so that's a 'plus'.
  16. My usual Words of Encouragement apply to this, and to many other aspects of Life... 'It's the first forty years that are the hardest, after which things sometimes tend to get just a little easier. ' You're Welcome.
  17. That's not 'free', it's just paid for by someone else.
  18. The point stands that it ain't 'free'. ...
  19. Not strictly speaking 'free'; it's already been paid for by yourself, and thousands of others, through National Insurance contributions. A Very Good System.
  20. Yes, strokes are ruled out for me too, for now. ...
  21. Which metal..?
