[Pedantry] This should be 1500 cu ft, Shirley..? [/Pedantry] And yes, a 'dead' room for recording is rarely the optimum, in my experience. Having a tailored environment for listening (the control cabin, or mixing room...) is fine, but for recording, most 'ordinary' rooms will have spots for mic placing as good as anywhere. The placing , direction and beam pattern of the mic are the key factors, more than the room's treatment, I'd say. A decent engi will listen in order to find and use these 'sweet spots'. There are obvious extremes to avoid, of course, but an overly neutral recording room is not the most pleasant one to work in. Different instruments (and voices...) need different ambiances from the room. Just my tuppence-worth.

You now only have to wait a week or so for the date to be displayed..! Looking back to previous posts, the date I see in quoted paragraphs looks correct (European-style, dd/mm.yyyy...).

Monitors alone, without a suitable environment, will be just as unsure as HiFi stuff. They give of their best in the conditions for which they were conceived. Having them without that environment is not worth the difference, I'd say. A good headset, then, later, a decent home studio environment, then monitors. That's the sequence required. Monitors will work, of course (I have a pair staring at me right now...), but I know darned well that they're no better a guarantee of fidelity than my headset, the way they're set up. I snapped up a bargain in buying 'em, but I'm not fooling myself. It's a question of priorities. No harm in investing in decent monitors; just don't imagine that the sound coming from 'em is 'true', 'cos it ain't, without the rest.

I live in France, and have received instruments and other items from most continents, and the UK, with never a problem, despite some of the packaging being somewhat skimpy on occasion. I'd recommend a rigid or semi-rigid case, inside a stout card box. It's no more risky nor stressful than posting locally, in my experience.

If we're assuming a forty-odd year future, that's a couple of generations. There are no more roller-rinks (well, very few...) which were once all the rage. Similarly, few pubs now have piano ('joanna'...) sing-song evenings; used to be nightly. There may well be rock/pop/live music gigs to be had in forty years time, but it's not something I'd be betting on (although it's true that I don't bet, either..!). Doubtful..? Certainly not a certainty, I'd say (for better or worse; all may be 'virtual' in future years, or radio-active ashes..! ).

Most rechargeables have a lower voltage, just by their technology; some devices don't appreciate this and work less well. Not the case, in my experience, with instruments; sometimes an issue with pedals, however. Some will remember clock-radios, with their 'back-up' PP3 for the alarm, which got forgotten about until either the alarm failed, or runny stuff oozed from beneath (or both...). Smoke alarms. Anyone got one, that uses a battery..? The 'trick' as a reminder is to systematically go around all of these devices at Christmas, having bought a job lot. I use rechargeables everywhere, even in my Sony flashgun and the wall clock. It's been a long time since I bought a battery.

My wall hangars are not going to fall down any time soon. All my unplayed instruments are in their cases. When practising, I use floor stands. There's no 'right/wrong/better'; it all depends. In some folks homes (renting..?) one cannot drill the walls, others have toddlers and dogs to contend with, so...

Good call; cheers. It begs the question as to why the installer doesn't ask for a path, but, whatever... I'll install again once I've upgraded to an SSD 'C' drive, assuming my PC works at all after that..!

Those amps are open-backed; almost (but not quite...) as loud from behind as in front, so the player would clearly hear what was going on. Built-in foldback, in a way.

Done that, thanks. I managed to trick Cakewalk into finishing (I created the folders it couldn't do myself, and selected 'Retry'...). I got it to install, and even to run, but why does it install n the 'C' drive, without asking me..? I install nothing on that drive except System stuff; I've several teradisks hooked up for applications, data, archives etc. 'C' is for System only, and I want any installation to ask where to go, and go there. As a result, it's been uninstalled again. I did create an audio track, and imported audio to it, plus a MIDI track, with a MIDI file, but couldn't see how to affect an instrument to that MIDI track. I'm much more familiar with Reaper, where tracks is tracks, and has no need for specific affectation. I'll try again, and read up a bit on how it's supposed to work. For the moment, I'm rather sceptic, but it hasn't cost me much, either, so I'll keep an open mind. Meanwhile I've still a compo to do for this months Challenge; I suspect that Reaper will again be solicited..!

Downloading (again..!) to try that. The launcher dumbly downloads into the User/Download folder, instead of the browser Download folder like everyone else. Daft, as it's taking up space on the drive with the least free space on it, and may have trouble due to that. I'll see have it develops...
