  1. There are a lot of things that I like about this bass however the misaligned bridge pick up would drive me mental...
  2. Details passed to a friend who's grandson is interested in taking up Bass
  3. Weight and scale length?
  4. Who said anything about "need"? If I only bought what I "needed" I'd only have one bass and one amp...I have significantly more because I "want" them. I don't think I'm alone.😉😉
  5. I don't get the Hate for Scott and SBL. I've met Scott a few times - LBGS - and he's a really nice bloke - he even remembered me the second time we met. He's giving you free access to his time, his knowledge and experience - nobody's forcing you to sit and watch his videos - and most of us benefit from watching them. IMO He's a great tutor and makes learning easy and enjoyable. I wish that there was a resource like him/SBL when I started playing. Some people here need to give him a break.
  6. I had one of these...amazing bit of kit but IIRC very heavy, even for TE. Great if you don't plan to move it.
  7. I had a similar experience a few years ago - not Ibanez but the same oily residue you describe - have you tried wiping the strings off with something like methylated spirits?
  8. I often use masonry or paving slabs. Sit yourself down for 30 seconds and rub your nails over the aforementioned. Best bit of emery board you'll find.
  9. I bought one based on the recommendations on here. Hated it! I couldn't get a tone that I liked - The built in effects had no use whatsoever - as stated, they're probably more suited to metallists/ proggists that somebody after a phat, funky tone.
  10. There's an Ashdown 800 on ebay at the moment for £215 - not mine but I posted the details in the "Weird & Wonderful" thread. I used one in a local studio - very impressed.
  11. Somebody should steal this at this price https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ashdown-Retroglide-800-bass-amplifier-And-Bag-800watts-Trace-Elliot-Style-Amp/174424436425?hash=item289c81aec9:g:0FgAAOSwfYpfJnm-
  12. Agree...not sure it works with the scratchplate though. Replace it with black??
  13. You can see that he's not a real Bassist - timing is well off (by 12 years)
  14. I emailed Newtone last night - Neil replied first thing this morning. Proper customer service.
  15. Sometimes because the gear didn't live up to expectations, sometimes because I was too precious about my (high end normally) gear.
  16. I'd like to see some sketches before committing to anything.
  17. I've been looking at a mini bass since playing one of Jezza's ( @Jabba_the_gut ) at a Herts Bash. The choice is somewhat limited and I'm looking at possibly going for the Squier. https://www.mannsmusic.co.uk/guitars/fender-squier-mini-precision-bass-black-laurel.htm?opt=24087&gclid=CjwKCAjwnef6BRAgEiwAgv8mQZgMNWOZCitbO0zwe8iIKtWqzwhjXS9igjXdE7KJN92tWi9YzTVnaxoCldcQAvD_BwE Before jumping in I'm looking at the choice of strings which I suspect will be limited - I know about Newtone but does anybody know of what others may be available - preferably in a .30 or .35 gauge. How good are the pups, tuners and bridge??
  18. Seems to be some consensus about these. Unusual for BC 😄😄
  19. Didn't know this
  20. SBL is an amazing resource and Scott is an amazing fella...met him a few times and he remembered who I was. I'm not a member of the Academy but enjoy the free stuff he posts on YT. More power to him👍👍
  21. I've bought and sold on Gumtree. No shortage of tyre kickers and low ballers but there are genuine traders there too. Navigating your way through these can be a bit of a pain. Recently traded my Spector CODA there so deals can be done if you persevere. There are time wasters and scammers everywhere - even here. Thankfully they are found out and excluded before they can do too much damage.
  22. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SQUIER-FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-GUITAR/333715772141?hash=item4db30292ed:g:1I8AAOSwcUJfWMz7 "...the bottom tuner dose not work the other 2 do."
  23. I acquired one at the weekend. I was having mixed feelings when I bought it - I'd sold a M2000 which I really liked as part of my downsizing - instant sellers remorse so bought one of the Jazz models which I really didn't get on with and ended up selling within a week. Got the SB2 which was in dire need of being set up. The action was really high and the neck had a huge arc in it. Somebody at some time had let the truss rod off (completely?) so that it could be turned with the short end of the allen key. Put this right over a couple of days with the recommended 1.4 turn and leave it to settle method. Lowered the action at the same time and set the intonation which was already out. Now plays like a dream. The neck is a nice profile and the satin finish gives a very nice feel and makes it very playable. I agree that the lack of tone knob was a bit of a headache to start with but I've found that running the P pick up at around 75% and the J at around 50% gives me the (phat) tone that I want - tone knob or not!! The only criticism I have (my own fault) it's RED!!! Not a fan of red basses as a rule - happy to trade for a white one.
