Got some work done on my old DB. New fingerboard is amazing. Like having a completely new bass with the same......actually better tone and great action. Put a set of Evah Parazzi Slaps on. They are really great although the E is a bit slack so will possibly change it for something bit higher tension. I have put a Cult Blaster pick up system on it. This kinda ruins the classic look that the bass has but playing mainly roots and rockabilly at the moment and this sounds great for that. Thinking of combining this with a mic. Got some nice AKGs that I would like to try. Not sure how easy it is to change the tail piece back re the sound post? Anyone done this? The neck realy needs re-set. It has been badly done in the past but can t afford this at the moment.

Really good FendPrec either 5 or vintage 4......and a Duke DB.........sad have neither the cash nor the work for either.............GAS is a burden. eg...I longed all my life for a Gibson 335 and a Rick 4001 and when a got them I really was dissappointed......what I REALLY want is talent and time to practice.....and time back from my wasted youth............and a good band

Definitely 6/8. Playing rockabilly at the moment......we play in any key as long as its E and any time as long as its 4 3/4 my least favourite.....or rather the most difficult to put interest into On the other hand there are a few interesting variations of 4/4 like accenting different beats .....do like a bit of 2/4 swing... or first bar/second bar accent changes but in general it would be nice to try more time sigs..........s' not gonna happen in RB though....

I have always get my luthier to do this. He will charge around 20-30 quid. New bridge could be £150-200 if it is buggered up. He will also look at the nut and other stuff.

Downloaded this app for my 3 year old ipad 2. Extremely dissappointed. Can t seem to get it to function never mind find web sites that allow me to download from. I bought the app...£15 and re opened my Dropbox account and got the Add To Onsong extension to Safari. I have a subscription to a guitar tabs site but it is hit an miss with more misses. I have managed to get a few songs on there but it has been a real hassle. Could my Ipad be too old or is it me that is too old? Are there better apps out there that will suit my stoneage ipad 2? I bought it on recommendation from an old thead on BC but thought that I would bump up the topic into a new thread as we all know new tech goes old after a day and a half.

I have been in three bandss that I contributed to the purchase of the PA. When I left each band ....well you all know the end of that story....I refused to chip in for current band........did not go down well

Would love to try these but they cost not that much short of what I paid for my DB

Well travelled......I am in Stirling and went to Sunderland in my transit pick up to get my current DB...just chucked it in the back, luckily it was one of the few days that it didn t rain this year. I am needing a slap bass but that trip (via Kent) took weeks off my life... I am loath to do it again. Not sure why there are so few DBs up here.

Love this song. Never been asked to play this as a sax player.....think that musicians run from it. It is keyboard heavy
The Thomann bass mounting clip is utterly unfit for purpose. I think they designed it on a 1/2 size bass or something. I bought a DPA bass mount - which cost almost as much as the Ovid.... In sax terms, my wife uses hers on sax with a noisy rock band and it works really well (engineer dependent, of course)
I am an ardent fan of Gaffa Tape

Funny that you should post this. I was looking at exactly the same thing yesterday. I really fancy the Ovid. How did you attach it to the bass? I see that they do a bundle for £62 including fitting. The DPA would be OK I was getting regular quality gigs but at the moment it is looking like the Thomann Ovid

We were recently shopping about fr a new car and noticed that most/many new cars do not have folding passenger seats. Assume H&S stuff. We have a saloon (A3) and the neck of my DB has to slide between the front seats. I got some funny looks fro salesmen when the first question concerned my DB but lets face it ...it is the most important thing about a car ...assuming that it moves
If I'm seeing it right in the photo, I think that's a plywood top, not a solid top. A solid top will always have straight, parallel grain running vertically, because they are cut from boards that are either quarter-sawn (a chunk like a thin slice of cake running into the middle of the log) or slab cut (the middle slice if you cut a trunk into slices). Plywood never has that grain pattern because it's made by peeling wide, thin slices off the outside of a log, sort of like a giant pencil sharpener.
Yes. I think you are right. Should have seen that (having done a guitar/mandoline building course). It is incredibly thin ..4mm max. I suppose that the resonance and volume come from the thin top. The whole bass is very light.

Thanks for all this. Anyone who wants these cheese graters is welcome to them (free). Not sure how long they have been on the bass but thhey look OK Jimmy

These are the strings that were on the bass when I got it. All the same colour

Think that I may have buggered up the pic thing

So I bought this DB in Sunderland. It is laminate with a carved top. Old, chipped but with a fantastic loud resonating sound...and a looker, I wanted it for initially rockabilly/roots stuff but it is too good for that and does not suit nylon strings at all. I would suit classical or jazz but probably needs a new fingerboard. I will probably sell it on but before I do I want to put lower tension steel strings back(the existing strings were high tension and impossible to play with my feeble digits. Don t want anything too expensive (as I might move it on)...what strings should I go for?
-
TheG. Thanks for this...what a pain...and expensive.....I would probably go for the adapter that suits my DB ...could possibly use EQ to correct my sax sound?
There is only one mic for all uses, but with differing mounting systems and cable adapters. One of these will cover all of your stated instrument needs. Sorry for the verbosity; hope this helps.
Just the answer one was wanting thank you.......
-
OK so I am a bit thick but humour me......the above mic....wish they would get a sharper name .....it can be aquired for lots of different instruments. Is it the same mic with different mounting mechanisms or are the mics calibrated to amplify different soundwave lengths....the reason that I am asking is that I play DB and tenor sax and in the unlikely event that I could afford one I like the idea of using the same mic for both instruments ........if anyone answers this could you answer in one syllable words.
