1. Here is a picture of the bridge and mute/damper assembly. It is quite a simple affair, really. The string mute is a piece of metal covered in foam that attaches to the sides of the bridge and can be flicked up or down thanks to a spring attached to the front of the bridge. I don't think I can attach pictures, so here is a link to the assembly: http://diaryofabassguitar.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=193 The saddles are quite interesting, they each have 3 grooves, which suggests you could change the string spacing if you wanted. I am not too sure why you'd do that, the only thing I can think of is you could use the higher or lower grooves if you moved the bridge down or up (so the bridge is, say, lower but the strings still line up with the nut and tailpiece), or if you angled it sideways.
2. I put the description of the bass from the page that Bassassin pointed to through an online translator (http://translation.babylon.com/korean/to-english/) and it turns out this bass has got some seriously unique features The best bits: Big connector : 3 - Peace, adhesive Mount you more hard maple controls : two-volume, one-Saturday lucky controls. Now, I wish my bass had a Saturday lucky control too!
3. Screw that. All these years I spent practicing NOT getting my thumb over the fretboard...
Wonder how one would 'refret' it, should the frets wear down. Etc.
It looks like you just need to give the neck half a turn... Now, seriously, one of those with a telescopic neck as a travel bass?
4.
congrats on the bargain fretless!
What bargain? That's actually a very expensive gig bag I say...
5.
This one went for £170 on the bay. Complete with damper.
That's mine now! I'll post some pictures in the near future if there's interest. I love the colour, nice acoustic sound and awesome thump with the damper/mute on. There is also a bit of background info on the Commodore basses in that BC thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/9999-commodore-semi-japcrap-info/
6. Aw. I am looking for a 4 strings one of those. Have a "one string too many" kind of bump.
7. Ahh. Just seen you are in NZ Doesn't help much then.
8. No, I don't know, but if you do find out, let us know If I had the money I'd go for these from The Creamery to replace the pickups on my Dean Stylist: http://www.creamery-pickups.co.uk/classic-custom-double-track-humbucker-pickup-set.html - because they are custom jobbies you could ask to have them made to give the sound you are after. They are cheaper than the TV Jones in the UK too.
9. Is the pick guard included? If so is it the shiny chrome one?
10. I do like the headstock, with the old fashion door knobs sticking on the side and the tuning pegs hidden round the back
11. I had never heard of Willis ramps. It seems interesting - I for one never stray away from the neck pickup. I have a 4 strings b-bass and whilst I am sure it is quite a different instrument, these are great basses, very well built.
12. Err... 23 years old maybe?:-D Nice bass anyway, hides her age well.
13. Aw. That's a shame. Thanks Rumple.
14. I too am surprised at how cheap the Status strings are and I am going to get some - flats, half-rounds or maybe even nylon, not sure yet. First I need to know if the string at the ball end is thin (tapered, exposed core or some such) because it needs to fit in a trapeze with rather small gaps. Those of you who have tried them, could you please enlighten me? Cheers.
15. Thanks OldG. What about left (fretting) hand? I find that when I slide from one octave to a higher one my index goes nicely against the fret but my ring finger ends up in between the frets and the high note buzzes. Just lots if practice again?
16. Thanks guys. I'll experiment with getting closer to the bridge and angling the bass as Fionn suggested. Topo Morto, that's a bit advanced for me! Little finger! I just need to be comfortable enough to play basic octaves. Not ready to funk. Like that Rocco video made me laugh: "practice high lows and low highs" and then he demonstrates with that cazy bassline.
17. So that's it? Just hard work and lots of practice? Damn, I was hoping to find some magic formula
18. That's really good. I like that you have to open it up to change the strings. Ashbory strings it seems?
19. What about the Hofner Shorty? http://www.hofner-guitars.com/electric-basses/solid-body-basses/hct-shb-bk-0.html Small body but the neck might bo too long (30" scale).
20. Thanks fonzoooroo, good idea! I'll try to get some cheap tapered strings and give it a go.
21. Hi, It is time to change the strings on my bass, and I am suddenly concerned I may not be able to put any old strings on it. It's a Hohner b-Bass with a massive bridge with fine tuning pegs on it (essentially some screws pressing down on the strings). Would strings tapered at the ball end be suitable or will they cause issues with the fine tuners (I am thinking that they may not approve of a much smaller string diameter to press on)? The internet does not seem to have an opinion on this matter. Cheers.
22. 4 strings, 4 fingers, I thought I could manage that. And the likes of The Cure and Joy Division.
23. Hi, I am new to the forum, sorry if I am bumping this post (doesn't seem all that old). I have recently acquired a Hohner B-Bass too, a slightly different model with the battery in the same compartment as all the wiring and the pre-amp, I am not sure if it is older or newer. But anyway, I did some research when I got it, in case I ever needed to fix it (it worked absolutely fine when I got it) and found a wiring diagram in an old basschat discussion at: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=44498 Just passing it on in case you are still interested. This is a cracking bass, I hope you manage to fix it!
