1. Hand sanded? Bleeding hell!! Truckstop
2. Bump! Great cab only £210! Truckstop
3. Hello all, I've decided to sell my fantastic Ampeg SVT-210HE (part of the classic range) for £200! I bought this great cab off Lozz just over a year ago and it's seen a bit of use since then. Fairly intensive low volume home use, but it's only been cranked maybe 15 times for gigs and rehearsals? This cab has a wonderful creamy, bassy, smooth tone to it. Depending on how you EQ, you can get a lovely high-end sparkle too. I've never found it lacking in volume either. It's able to fill a small room with lovely bass up against guitars, drums, keys and lots of vocals in a rock covers band. It is in good nick. There's a couple of small scuffs, and in one place a scuff has gone to the bare wood (maybe 5mm[sup]2[/sup]?). The cab will come with a cover (non-padded) which I believe cost Lozz around £40. Trades: A decent cab (plus cash your way, probably). I really like Orange, Purple Chilli and Aguilar but try me! Definitely no Trace, no Ashdown (unless it's the LB212) and no TC Electronics. Anything else, try me! My funds are not unlimited for cash adjustments, so something you value at up to £275 (maybe £300 for a really special deal) would be good. Payment by cash on delivery or bank transfer. I also use Barclays Pingit. I'll not send this anywhere. I'm happy to drive this up to 150 miles away (or a couple hours drive away) for petrol money and a cup of tea (i'm based in St. Albans). Sorry for the lame pic, I'll get better ones up when I'm not at work! Cheers all! And here's a link to all the specs: http://www.ampeg.com...10HE_SVT15E.pdf Alex
4. I'm well happy with my rig, but I still want other stuff because like owning nice stuff! I'd love to own an all Aguilar rig and I love the look of Purple Chilli cabs. I also love Orange cabs and hopefully will have an OBC115 winging it's way to me soon! Truckstop
5. Oh, I want it!! Trade for a Tenner and some string? Truckstop
6. We have a 'Show us your rig!' thread in the gear Porn thread. It's 100+ pages and you will emerge with huge GAS!!! Truckstop
7. Ah, so that's what it is! I knew PA systems and more advanced bass cabs have that function but I never knew that's what it was called! Cheers And thanks for PM's! Truckstop
8. Wow, again thank you all very much for your advice everybody! Can I be proper noob-ish and ask what a crossover is? I'm struggling to work out what one would be used for in a PA! Cheers again! Alex
9. Hmmm, tricky for sure. Just be honest with the pub landlord; you werent to know that a wedding gig was on the horizon when you booked with him so see if he wouldnt mind having you guys some other time. I'm he'll understand that you can't refuse that sort of money! Truckstop
10. I think so, it's the old skool wide oval shape with a great big arse print in the middle! Any changes to the shape or thickness will result in getting rid of the wonderful patina so I'm going to avoid having to do that. Should hopefully have the replacement stools next week, so will be starting soon! Truckstop
11. Well it's lucky I dont have any tools then, innit! And as you full well know, my finishing skills leave a lot to be desired! I'll get some pics up when I can get started, it really is a lovely piece of wood. Truckstop
12. Right, just took all the electronics apart and soldered everything back together nice and neatly and it seems to have done the trick! When I refinished the bass I only resoldered the pickups, so maybe some of the old joints had worked a little loose? After all, it is 30 years old maybe she just needed a little TLC? Anyway, that seems to have sorted the problem out; distortion gone and now I can hear the strings properly and I have to say I like a lot! Plenty of bass, but with a nicely rounded crisp zing. I dont think I'll be getting them again though, they're nothing special and I think I prefer the feel of my usual Ernie Ball Slinkys. Cheers Alex
13. Well, it's just frustrating because I've been after this particular type of Blazer for months, and then one turns up in the week I've paid all my bills! Cheers! Alex
14. There's no buzz when I play quietly, but I have quite a robust fingerstyle and playing with a pick is impossible now as there's higher attack the buzz is very very obvious. It is literally as if there's a touch sensitive fuzz on in my signal chain! Hmm, I havent looked at the nut. The strings may be a different gauge from the ones that were on it previously. But they're normal strings! .45 - .105! Dont think the nut wouldnt be designed to take the most common gauges ever! I'll have a look and see if they're sitting in there comfortably.... Yep, they appear to be sitting in there comfortably, no obstructions, clear of the first fret. I think I might have to resolder everything. If I've still got it, I think I might need to try some new pickups maybe? Truckstop
15. Hello all, I recently bought some La Bella stainless steels for my Blazer. I'd refinished it, and strung it using whatever strings I'd had on it before to make sure I'd set the guitar back up properly, electronics and so on, and it sounded perfect. Then I fitted these strings and suddenly I've got a really prominant distorted sound coming out of my amp. It's definitely not my rig because I tested my Eagle through it and it sounds fine, but I'm still getting this distortion coming out of my Blazer. I've tried raising and lowering the pickups, I've sodded about with the adjustable pole pieces with no noticeable difference. I've raised the action as high as I dare to make sure its not some sort of fret buzz. I cant notice anything when I play unamplified and I cant feel any moving or loose parts on the tuners or the bridge and the distortion is more prominant the harder I play. Is this a characteristic of new La Bella strings? Do I need to play the strings in more? They've probably had about 2 hours of play so far. I've never noticed any other brand of string sound this 'snappy' brand new (if it is a characteristic of these strings). I wish I werent so bloody skint so I could buy another set of strings and see if I have the same problem! Anyone got any thoughts on this? It's driving me mental and I've got a gig this saturday and it needs to be sorted! Truckstop
16. My pub's about to throw away a couple of old solid oak bar stools which I'm hoping to be able to convert into guitars. Lovely well worn patinated wood, I'll not be finishing them at all, just be screwing the hardware straight on! Truckstop
17. Yeah, I know there's quite a few BCers in and around Leeds, but I dont want to actually pressure anyone into doing this for me! And another thing, if there is someone that can do this for me, please let me know that you're going to bid on it because it looks like I might have to use bank of dad (which is massive hassle), and if there's two people bidding this thing up...! Cheers Luke Alex
18. Perfect, 24th June it is!. Truckstop
19. Hello all, I wouldn't ask unless I was desperate! Basically, someone in Leeds is selling a beat up old Ibanez Blazer on eBay that I really want for a project and eventually to be my No. 2 bass and the price has gone higher than I can afford right now. Could someone buy this for me, and over a few weeks i'll pay you back? I'd also leave a little extra cash for your troubles too! As a final piss-take/request(!) I'd quite like it to be posted down to me here in St. Albans or if possible we could meet halfway and of course I would reimburse you fully for your time and efforts and pay for materials and postage. PM if this feels like something you would be able to help me out with and will be eternally grateful!!!! I'm expecting the bidding to end up at around £175 and no more than £200 (which is my absolute limit). Here's the link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120872710300?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1431.l2649 If no-one sees this in time then I guess Im just having some hard luck Thanks all! Alex
20. Hello mate, thanks for your offer thats's great! My band play at the roundabout in Wycombe on the last Saturday of every month until July, it'd be great if we could link up and I'll nab some basic gear to see how it all works! Cheers Alex
21. and she eats like a sparrow.
22. As long as it's working well when you inspect it, it'll be fine. My BC Rich and Ibanez are both great players. Maybe not as expensive and sought after as a Fender or Ricky of the same year, but they have their own place in my heart! Truckstop
23. Wasn't Paul Simon's Graceland made in the 80's? That entire album certainly gets my vote! That and also Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush Don't Give Up. Wonderful verse bass line. Truckstop
24. Oooh, never seen one of those before! That's exactly the type of interesting bass I'd like to add to my small collection; anyone know anything about these? Washburn mass produced a Status design? Truckstop
25. I used a GK 400RB in my old band (myspace.com/purenegative (The Return and The Cider Complex are my recordings)) which had plenty of grit in it already. Other than a pretty heavey fingerstyle, completely clean. I find, if the guitars are that distorted, and the drums are that huge, clean bass is the way to go. I've never ever heard a 'metul' band that's managed to get a sweet fuzz/distorted tone cut through live or recorded. It just seems to blend in at the frequencies where the guitars leave off. Listen to bands like Lamb of God (especially New American Gospel) and Necrophagist and the bass tone is almost completely clean, and more to the point, sounds hella aggressive, raw and totally cuts through. There's something about someone shredding the hell out of a clean bass that just sounds epic! I'd work at getting a great clean tone before adding any fuzz or distortion effects. Having said that though, dist. 3 does sound sweet... but does it work with everything else? Truckstop
