1. After sanding back the plywood a little, the mould seems to have turned out to be some staining and it's all but been eradicated! I'm going for the standard delta, I doubt I'd ever need to go louder. Coming into some money in the week so I'll get the tolex, grille fabric and piping together and start work! Truckstop
2. Boss ME-20b's nice and compact. Compressor's usable but find the filters quite harsh sounding. I've not tried it post EQ yet so that might solve the problem. Truckstop
3. +1 You have a bass you love already! Fight the GAS monster and maybe in a few years if you have enough disposable cash, buy the AV '57. In the meantime, I'm thinking you'd regret sellig on the RW. One day you'll go "oh, I think I'll have a go on the RW" and it won't be there Truckstop
4. Why don't TE make a mini-type head? Like the Ampeg PF-500, Markbass or Orange TB? I really like TE but since using a PF-500 I don't see the point in buying big heavy 'traditional' style heads. I reckon they've missed a trick there! Truckstop
5. I fitted some LaBella steels to my Blazer just over three months ago and I think they're still going strong! I hate zing anyway and I just keep playing them until one of them breaks (I have a quite aggressive finger and pick style) and then I'll change the lot. Otherwise I'll change them at their yearly service, speaking of which is due in 4 weeks! I'm gonna stick with LaBellas. Black silk looks wick and they sound great. Truckstop
6. Just got in from the Wishing Well in Hayes. Was a Battle of the Cover Bands type doo-dad. Got off to a fairly bad start as the promoter had told all the bands to bring all of their own kit. This led to obvious congestion and a good 20-30 minute changeover period; however, my spirits lifted after the first band (a gangly group of kids) tore into some great songs. They suckked, but looked great doing it and I loved their attitude. Some other bands played who were also awesome (you need to check out The Ruby Tuesdays AKA The Roobies. f***ing great band! The bassist was an 18 kid and played an Indie brand bass. Made it sound awesome and had clear influences from Entwistle. I great player, blew my socks off!). So we played and brought the house down I'm pleased to say and ended up winning £500! We're struggling with what to do with it. £100 each or spend it on PA shizzle? We'll discuss it at band practice when we're all sober and vaguely half-awake! Truckstop
7. ***SOLD*** Thanks Alex
8. Hello, Decided to move on my Boss VE-20 after trying an EHX Voicebox and much preferring that instead. The Voicebox sounds more synthy and is a little easier to use I think. Not that the VE-20 isnt easy to use, it's just easier to adjust the Voicebox on the fly. This has a ridiculous amount of functions that you can use to enhance your vocal performance live or in the studio. If you're a solo act, the harmoniser can fill out your vocal patterns big time and you can pre-record a chorus loop for example so you can sing solo over it. Very good for those Elbow-ish chanty sections. The delay and reverbs sound very natural to my ears and I found it easy to adjust the parameters for those functions. I didnt really use this to it's maximum potential as the studio project I bought this for is struggling to get off the ground (havent we all heard that before?). This really will do everything you want it to, I just prefer the Voicxebox. So, I really hope Scooby doesnt think I'm purposely undercutting him here but £117.50 posted is what I paid for it a few weeks ago and it's only fair that that's what I get back for it. The only trade i'm after is for an EHX Voicebox, otherwise I'm just going to buy one with the money I make from this sale. This will come with the manual and the box (also in very good condition!) Bank transfer or Barclays Pingit only! Here's a little video of a dude using one of these to be very very cool! 9. ....and use a ++++funky+++++ font! I've used them all; times new roman, aeriel, wingdings BUT none as good as this!
10. Get them to play with their eyes shut or play without facing each other. Truckstop
11. Interesting, cheers guys! Alex
12. Hmm, I had looked at that but I'd like the speaker to be able to handle the entire 500w my amp will provide and I wasnt sure if it wouldnt blow up on me! Do you reckon it could handle it? Cheers Alex
13. Yeah I worked out the volume of the cab and it's near as makes no difference 120 litres. Most speakers I've looked at seem to work best in between 80-135 litres so hopefully anything I pull the trigger on should work out ok. Anyway I emailed the guy asking if they'd sell that Delta to me a little cheaper...havent heard back yet! Here's hoping cos I have the make the budget spread to tolex, castors, corners, ox blood fabric for the frontage, white piping and decals. If I can't afford tolex I'll just varnish to a glossy finish and deal with it. Problem is, there's a little damp on the bottom of the cab and I'd want to hide it with something. Maybe cream tolex the bottom half, piping round the middle and glossy exposed wood on the top half? Could be interesting. Especially with red frontage... Truckstop
14. Hello all, On clearing out my fiancees garage earlier today I came across a well old Carvin cab that I used to use in my old band's rehearsal space. Unfortunately as it's spent a few years in a damp garage, the carpet's all mouldy, the speaker's destroyed and it's just in a right state. So I thought I'd strip it, recover it, make an Ampeg Classic-style fabric frontage, get some new corners and castors on it and get it working again! Carvin made/make(?) great cabs; thick plywood, well put together and so I think it'll be a great donor cabinet and an excellent basis with which to build a great sounding cab. Obviously one of the main things it needs to do is work for me. To this end, I'm after a 500+ watts speaker at 4ohms. The idea will be to use this on its own at gigs where there's not enough space for the Ampeg rig or if I just fancy a change. I like 15s and my current Ampeg SVT115E doesnt really carry enough power for me to use it on it's own and that's where this one will fit in. I just dont really know much about speakers so I don't really know what to look for. My budget's around £70 (is that enough?). It doesnt need to be lightweight as I'm a rather stout fellow and that's it! Any help gratefully received! Alex
15. I use one of these for BV's in my band and it really helps to fill out the sound no end. It sounds cool and robot-y on its own, but in the mix sounds proper good and can really add a little something to your live sound. IMO it's not particularly intuitive, but then again there is a lot that this little pedal can do and it takes a while to learn how to acces everything! Recommended! Truckstop
16. Does anyone know if the Octaver on the Boss ME series is based on the OC2 or 3 or even if not at all? Octave is pretty much the only effect I use in the cover band so would like a single pedal rather than carting around the me20 all the time for one effect, but if it sounds the same as an OC2/3 I'll just deal with it! Cheers Alex
17. Doom
18. Bought one of his Ashdown speakers (out of the back of his car, no less!) and am thoroughly happy with it. Great comms, got a great deal and would happily deal with him again. Cheers mate, I'm sure you'll settle into the band in no time at all! Alex
19. Nah, just want to get rid of it in a 'green' kind of way. I'll look into selling it on, thanks for the link! Truckstop
20. Hello all, Just wondering what the best way to dispose of broken speakers is? I'm not happy about just putting it in the bin, someone could probably make use of the cone or the magnets etc etc If Anyone's interested, it's an eminence delta 15". Structurally it's fine, but distorts at all volumes. Cheers Truckstop
21. That's a great story and a great looking bass! Well done bud! Truckstop
22. "Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue cover 2012" or "Why yes, the drummer is at the wrong gig" Truckstop
23. D'oh! Would've like these for my Encore! If for whatever reason it doesnt work out, can I have 2nd dibs please? Cheers Alex
