TBH you'd be better off nabbing the 20th anniversary Squier on sale on this forum! Not much more money and it's a better bass (IMO etc). Yeah it's just this song I'm not happy with at all. It just sounds so weak against the drums, keys and guitar. IMO its always sounded poor whether at gigs or in rehearsal. Ive spoken to the rest of the guys in the band about it and they think it sounds ok but I think they're just being polite. Think I might just utilise my Master Blaster and bring up the mids slightly and boost the overall volume and see if that works! Hobbayne - Yeah I'll give that a go. Less fuss that way and should beef up the sound of the band overall rather than me just worrying about making the bass bigger. Cheers Alex

Hello all, We play Jumpin Jack Flash and I'm really struggling to make it sound big. I've tried picking it, fingerstyle, playing up the neck, by the bridge; everything!! But it all sounds just so weedy. Anyone got any tips? Cheers Alex

Not sure what you mean by gravelly? Perhaps your mean 'burpy'? If it is, that's a tone I would try to get by playing fairly hard fingerstyle close to the bridge. As for strings, I use DR Marcus Millers and DR Sunbeams. Whichever I feel like when I'm buying a new set! Both have a nice clear tone but not too much zing which I feel Rotosounds and d'adarios have. To echo other sentiments, just buy and try until you find a sound you're after. But it's always worth playing around with the tone controls and experimenting with your playing style too! Cheers Alex

Just got back from my first gig with my new band and it went quite well I'm pleased to say! Room was a cube with a tile-imitation floor so was very reverb-y so we sounded pretty awful, but once the dance floor filled up a little we could hear ourselves better and settled down and really grooved through our covers! This was also the first love outing for my Blazer and PF500. Didnt take the Eagle because I've not been able to practise with it enough to feel proper comfy with it yet. Next gig's a month away so hopefully I can use it then! Truckstop

It cuts ultra-low frequencies in order to prevent speakers working to reproduce frequencies that can't be heard. This way, the speakers are more efficient at reproducing the frequencies that can be heard and users report a tighter more focussed sound from their cabs. Just got Jon's BC Rich this morning! He put it on hold while I buggered about finding some cash to throw at it and when I sent him the money I recieved the bass expertly wrapped the next day. As well as Lozz's strap height advice, I was wondering if you use a comfort strap (or other padded ergonomic strap)? They can really improve weight distribution across your shoulders. I'd also say maybe try a double strap? It's essentially two straps that go over one shoulder each and meet behind you back. Ultra comfy and makes a 15lb bass seem like nothing! They don't look very cool though! Truckstoo

Yeah I had heard about the cola trick! Think I'll give it a blast! I'm planning on stripping he body of it's old finish (clear lacquer) and then building up coats of wax. But that takes weeks so I can't do that until I get my new bass (hopefully next week! So excited!) As for polish, I've always used Tonetechs non-abrasive polish. Always worked for me! Cheers mate! I've decided to give my Blazer a much needed clean. It's old and it's gone a bit grubby, could do with cleaning up the tuners, the bridge and the frets. The body's going to get a makeover too at some point but as it's my only bass, I can't really have it out of action for any period of time. Anyone got any tips on getting these bits nice and clean? The bridge is a solid chunk of brass and the tuners are chrome. Im guessing the frets are stainless steel. I have no problems with taking everything apart too, so I can leave all the bits in solution if need be! Thanks in advance! Alex

Just got back from selling my Peavey Firebass 700 to Jim and it couldnt have been an easier transaction. He offered me £20 to deliver it (which was more than enough) and made me a lovely cup of tea...ooh, and a Tracker bar! I think that looks pretty cool actually! I wouldnt want to own it obviously, but it's not as bad as some of the horrible relic jobs etc you see on the 'bay! Colour scheme works and I love the headstock. Sort of Parker Fly-ish, but more danger added! Truckstop
