1. I've never owned a factory build in that config, so I can't comment on the Fender. Which said, I have two basses with double P pups. I like the sound; the bridge pup gives more cut-through than a "standard" P pup on its own seems to.
2. I wouldn't buy it. But I couldn't anyway. I'm well used to people with pots of money spending it on stuff I dislike and/or find reprehensible.
3. Look for long grooves in the fingerboard where the strings have worn the wood away. Some marking from strings might be okay, but if there are actual grooves I wouldn't buy it. In your position I would consider a new Harley Benton. They are good quality for their price, and you should be able to get an idea of what a fretless should be like without spending a lot of money on it.
4. Shell pink, black/white/black plate. Or one of the pale blues with a dark tort plate.
5. Not run across these before. I like the reverse headstock, but the nut's too wide for my taste. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Epiphone-EMB-4-Aktif-Bass-/262079135924?hash=item3d052240b4
6. Love the logo (Not that there's anything wrong with the bass itself, he said hastily...),
7. I don't like the shape. The neck's too short, for a start...
8. Looks sweet, though obviously not to everyone's taste. I also would be interested to read a review - not that I'm likely to afford one any decade soon...
9. Welcome aboard!
10.
Thanks, Alyctes . That must have taken sometime....I'm afraid it turned out to be one of my seemingly endless epics!
Once I started, I had to finish

NBD!

I used not to like tort, but I'm coming round, at least to the darker variety. It looks nice
12. I put nylon LaBellas on my no-name jazz copy a couple of weeks ago, and had to take them off, because they take all the snarl out of it. I like the lack of finger noise, but there seems little point if it doesn't make a noise I like. Flats on a P-type, yes I think I need to try some half-rounds, see i I can keep the snarl but reduce the finger noise.
13. Well that shouldn't be here long...
14.
Not sure it counts as a cheap one...but I still love playing my Vox Standard...my first 'proper' bass.
I love mine, but the neck is too thick and the thing weighs a ton... I dig it out occasionally if we're playing something ska-ish.
15. Welcome!
16.
Price reduced to £1500 from £1750
If you alter the thread title, people will know you've reduced the price (Edit the first post and use the Full Editor.)
17. I've just found this and read the whole thread. I'm absolutely gobsmacked. In a good way.
18. Sean and I traded basses. Good comms, nice guy. I'd happily trade with him again (but not for a certain fretless Prosebass
19. That's got to be a serious bargain. Good luck!
20.
I just found out that The doors didn't use a bassist live either.... all left hand Probably old news but eh
Doug Lubahn played bass on quite a lot of their recordings, I forget which but he's certainly on Strange Days. IIRC they asked him to join, but he didn't think they were a band with a future.
21. If I had any money... free bump for a nice guy.
22. Also there is a no-name knockoff which looks almost exactly like an unbadged Cirrus out there... there have been a couple on eBay over the last year or so.
23. I nearly bid on that. Rebuild thread please
24. Nice. Thanks for posting, that's an interesting read. I liked the mindreader joke
25. Thursday: First half, OK. Second half, not so good. Overall, could have been worse. (My singing was terrible, but I knew that before I started... and now they do, as well )
