The MC6 is really flexible and you can pretty much use it in whatever way you want. You could use buttons to skip up and down patches in whatever increment you like. You can assign single patches to a button - even multiple single patches which could be switched between via different button press actions (tap, double-tap, long press). You could have a single button scroll through a list of single patches populated by whatever you like. You have two expression pedals but you can change what each expression pedal controls by programming message changes to a button or several buttons. You get the idea…

There are a few solutions to this; here’s one: Create a blank bank template in the Manager, then populate it with patches from the cloud that you want to edit using the Global directory (either double-click the name or select and “send to bank”). Double click a tile in the Manager to load it into the buffer. Then switch to the editor to make the edits. Rinse and repeat. Then when you’ve finished editing all your patches, click “upload to FI” in the Manager to write all the patches. You can do this with a single patch too and select a single tile to upload.

The Roland cable is only for communication with the computer so no expression. MidiBeam works as a full interface (editor communication and firmware updates) with the computer and lets you have expression or footswitch on each of the two jacks. To be honest, something like a Morningstar MC3/6/8 would give you more functionality as regards expression and external switches. Also, as mentioned, it'll function as an interface for editor communication. It won’t do firmware updates but there really aren’t likely to be any more (possibly one, I’m running a beta firmware that has a small bug fix for when triggering from a keyboard but unless I find anything else broken, there’s not much room for improvement). Yes, most of the FI patches out there are ones I created (bar the original Talkbass patches from other users). No need to download them as such as they are all accessible within the cloud part of the editor, though it doesn’t hurt to have a backup on your computer.

There aren’t likely to be that many more updates to be honest. I’ve got a beta v3.61 running on mine and haven’t found anything else in need of fixing as yet.
-
At times I’m not even sure they are still in business.

Plug in the MS to the PC via USB. Enable “cross MIDI Thru” on the MS. Select the MS as the input and output device in the FI editor. Connect the FI MIDI ports to the MS 5-pin MIDI ports. Works for everything except firmware updates.

I chickened out. Saving that for a second build if this one hits the spot.

Nice, you may have got lucky then. Make sure you get yourself a USB-to-MIDI adaptor to get the most out of it; Roland UM-One Mk2 is the one I’d recommend. If you have a Morningstar controller then you can use that an interface to the editor.

That’s the spirit.

Yep, the tumbleweed gave me that impression.

I guess that was too far.
-
Well, apparently this will be ready by 6th December. Not holding my breath though.

The bodies were Warmoth parts (though not now standardly). The necks they had custom made so no, they don’t de-fret and dismantle.

Did you ever buy a bass you'd previously overlooked?

P basses for me. Probably never tried one properly when I first started learning as the Jazz nut was more comfortable in my hands. Took about 20 years before I realised that the sound I loved was something I was getting close to by soloing the front pickup. Still took another few years before I actually made the final connection and bought one. Been on a quest to find ones that have a narrower nut and bought and sold a few of these, finally going down the route of custom ordering a Shuker P (and is near completion), but my current and only bass is now a USA Fender P. -
It’s split fret scanning with piezo note-on detection in the bridge saddles, exactly like the IR. Yeah, the headstock is horrid, more so as it’s being used on a traditional style instrument.
-
Not the only one. There is another: https://www.rorguitars.com/products/expressiv-midi-bass When I ordered the IR, I could afford it. Sadly, with the amount of time that has now elapsed it’s costing me more each day as I’ve watched the pound’s value plummet. And as regards wait times, they are epic (in the original meaning) and I’m never sure if I’ll ever receive it. Finally got an email reply today after 15 months of abject silence. Apparently my “bass will be ready in 4 weeks”. That would be wonderful if true but I’m certainly not holding my breath. It’s very difficult not to suspect foul play with the way things have been handled.

Another flawless transaction with Keir, with me being the buyer this time. Pedal posted same day that payment was made and arrived in great shape. Many thanks!

I use Labella normal (long scale) through body versions strung through the body. Plenty of winds left to get 3 full winds on the A peg even after clipping. These are the standard 760-FS-TB not the low-tension set.
-
The Future Impact, with the C4 a close second. Managed to get the latter to function as a drum machine to when mucking about with its sequencers and creative routing.
-
Labella do through-body sets of flats (suffix “TB”). Or just top load the normal sets.
-
I don’t mind the waiting per se; it’s the lack of communication which I find unacceptable.
-
Nope, still waiting…
