The POG might, but amp and speakers are your limiting factor. I explored that some when I was detuning to A in Caricatures, the guitarist ran an OC3 into a valve amp and severely invaded my frequency space. Basically it is only useful for distorting a valve amp that can produce you standard low A cleanly, which generally doesn't happen, that distortion gives you the harmonics that makes your low note an audible note. Basically, worry about reproducing you low A first, then worry about your sub octave that you won't be able to hear anyway.

Checking back to the thread, good call, the Compact will sort you in pretty much any situation, but I'd still recommend talking to Barefaced. I don't anticipate any BCer being offended having to gig with the Hartke LH500/Compact combination.

Hotness isn't really much of a consideration for bass, as most bass amps have an input gain/volume control. Plenty else to look out for in a pickup first. Boasts of hotness over anything else, much like in women, puts me off.

Sansamp DI, earplugs, smug/contemptuous expression whilst they lug their 100w stacks. Or fitting with the request, Hartke LHx00 or Terror bass and a Barefaced cab to taste (as in get in touch with them to fine tune), the Hartke might need a Sansamp for grind. If you go with the Terror bass, you can also keep the smug expression, or pretend the Barefaced cab is really heavy as an excuse not to help with theirs.

When you have the speaker out, just make a note of what it is, probably Celestion, and get in touch with Celestion, they may recommend a functional equivalent.

Is it a rosewood baord? Sometimes they can dry up and shrink, especially with aircon and central heating. Soaking the board in lemon oil can have a surprisingly dramatic effect. Skimming the ends off then doing it is the even better option.

Oh, Barefaced 69er is gunning for the original SVT cab tone with modern lightness, dispersion and power handling. Not quite sure of the status since the Barefaced forum went, but is listed on the site without description.

Try a Sansamp VT into something fairly transparent (like any of the other rigs you mention).

Lot of definition is in the mids, and the muff and sansamp tend towards scooping mids.

A lighter flame will sort the scruffy poking out threads after a cutting. Correct application of fire and sharp things will correct most problems.

Those cones with the aluminium caps look a lot like desireable ones, like Fanes, or the other one with metal caps. Hard to go wrong for £50.

I think the principle of Caveat Emptor is so named because it has been about since Roman times, or at least since we were in the habit of writing law in Latin, so I think it has stood the test of time as a good principle.
