  1. Absolutely. If any contemporary musician can be considered a genius, then AP can totally be included in that list.
  2. Really fantastic basses, I had an identical one until a few months ago (I’m assuming that this isn’t it). A pleasure to play and a great company to deal with.
  3. Karl Wallinger, who sadly died recently, massively under acknowledged artist. I absolutely love Private Revolution, even it reminds me of an ex, who introduced me to World Party. Andy Partridge, XTC. Another genius who should get way more recognition.
  4. Tokai, Gotoh Tuners and bridge, James’ HOT loom…. Epiphone Pro, all stock apart from Hipshot Ultralight tuners….. 1990 Greco, all stock apart from Bartolini pre (bass/treb) fitted by the previous owner…. I might convert it back to passive…… Tokai…. same mods as the black one. Three very different basses in terms of feel and tone, although the Tokais are obviously similar. Really great players….. neck dive? Yep, not bothered really, and they sound fantastic. Awesome live. Anyways, thought y’all might be interested 🤘🏻
  5. Finishing up the mods on my (off) white Tokai…. Gotoh tuners, James’ Home Of Tone loom, new bridge, fret dress…. Looking good…. Meanwhile I picked up this really lovely Thunderbird pro in Trans Black….. through neck, active….. couldn’t resist swapping out the obligatory Jin Ho tuners (I must have at least half a dozen sets in my bits boxes) for a lovely set of Hipshot Ultralights…. More details of the aviary at Rayman towers to follow…..
  6. One of my best friends is going through a similar situation. There are no words really. You are among friends here. Love and light. ❤️
  7. When the seller puts "I don't know anything about guitars", which I've seen quite often...... run for the hills.
  8. I had a fretless one, made in Korea, nice bass actually. Very nice to play, nicely put together, no complaints at all. However, it does depend on how much money you're talking about. Mine was about a ton and a half if I remember right.
  9. Sad news Ray, and thoughts are with you and yours. Make the most of life and spend it with the people that matter. Basschat, is absolutely a great place to buy and sell. The best thing about the site, is that one can ask for any advive, on any subject, and you will get help. It's worth noting that gear doesn't necessarily sell quickly here, but you are dealing with mostly fair and honest folk, and less likely to get any time wasters. All the very best.
  10. I don't think I've ever nailed a bassline. Not even the ones I wrote.
  11. Wow.... some of these comments are golden..... love it.
  12. You can pick up Encore basses very cheaply a lot of the time, I would be on the lookout for one, and just have the neck of that, instead of trying to save the current one, assuming that the truss rod is shot.
  13. I really want to get Stu Hamm…… but his solo stuff in particular just leaves me cold. I saw him with Joe Satriani many years ago on the G3 tour, and absolutely loved his contribution, but having listened to his solo stuff, including live performances…… I just do not connect at all. Who do you feel you should like, but just don’t?
  14. Great choice of bass. Fantastic quality and playability, you can’t go wrong. All you need is a nice setup with a nice set of strings, and away you go. 🤘🏻
  15. I had a Metro UV4 jazz many years ago. I didn’t like it at all, purely because for me, it had no soul. I preferred my Highway One Jazz at the time, which became my main gigging bass for a long time. The Sadowsky was sold soon after.
  16. Filter, Manchester, Awesome. Best gig in ages, Richard and Co are absolutely fantastic live. Top night.
  17. I thought I went through some gear, but Nicks revolving door never stopped spinning. I had a fabulous Stingray 5 that was a “keeper” and the “best bass I ever owned”….. until I flogged it to Nick a month later. I think he had it about a week before he sold it on.
  18. I can’t believe this one…… I didn’t know he was ill…… that’s horrific. We met up a couple of times buying and selling, but conversed a lot on here. That’s desperately sad….. 😞
  19. The Aries bass was interesting to me, but I was a bit put off by some bad press regarding Mr Kiesel’s attitude towards some of his customers. So I went no further. Well….. I did…… I bought another Thunderbird instead.
  20. Brilliant little amp, loads of tonal options, in great condition. To be honest, I think I’ve used it half a dozen times.
  21. I’ve suddenly noticed these popping up on all the usual suspects YouTube channels…… so Cort are obviously pushing this thing out there….. I don’t trust the likes of Patrick Hunter to give us a real evaluation, as he’ll rave about anything if it’s sent to him for free….. hopefully our own Dood will give us a non biased and accurate assessment.
  22. Never give up, ever. Whatever it is that rocks your world, whatever it is that feeds your soul and gives you purpose, never let go. When you’re gone, it’s over. Until then, f**k everything and do it.
  23. I find it absolutely unbelievable. Just “point in the general direction” seems to be the norm….. AND, the number of men who don’t wash their hands afterwards is totally staggering. I’m in motorway services a lot, and it’s at least 50% of blokes don’t bother 🤮, THEN go and use the McDonald’s touch screens.
