    Hohner B2a

A couple of questions…. Because I’m not having much joy here. Is this stereo jack wired correctly?
  2. First bass: Columbus Jazz. Hateful thing, but in 1980 it was all I could afford. It ended up being held together with electrical tape. Go to: Fender Meteora, hip shot drop D. It’ll do everything except sound like the Thunderbirds. My bass(es): Gibson Thunderbirds. My sound, my look. The band won’t accept anything else now.

    Hohner B2a

    Awesome, thanks so much

    Hohner B2a

Yeah there’s surprisingly little on the net to help…. I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Thanks anyway 👍🏻

    Hohner B2a

Thanks for that. Different layout unfortunately, but thanks anyway 👍🏻

    Hohner B2a

There’s also a loose red wire in here…. which I assume goes against the live contact where the circuit board slots in? It is definitely meant to be loose, it hasn’t come off anything. It only popped up when I pulled out the circuit board/trim pot insert to clean it

    Hohner B2a

I picked this very sorry B2a up. Filthy dirty, really horrible it was (it’s clean now). It’s missing its jack assembly. I assume that a telecaster style jack plate will work, but the suggested barrel jack absolutely does not fit in there. So I ordered a regular style stereo jack, which I hope will work. Question is, I have two loose wires, blue and white. I assume that there should be 3 for a stereo jack? Anyone have one of these that can be bothered to open it up and take a couple of pics for me? 👍🏻
  8. I’ve ordered a stereo jack. The barrel jacks will not fit in the route, so I’m going to try regular stereo jack and a tele plate, and see how that goes.
  9. Ah but…. Mine’s a B2a, so maybe that’s why. It has to be a stereo jack.
  10. Ah interesting….. yeah, I think I have something that will work for the cap, never occurred to me that a regular jack would work….. as all the research says it’s a barrel jack. I’ll look into that cheers 👍🏻
  11. Anyone have the above going spare? I’ve already got new barrel jacks and various bits to hand, but the cover itself could be an issue. Basically I don’t have one on this example and the hole is larger than the barrel jacks itself
  12. I had one, it was absolutely awesome. Great basses.

    Done.
  14. Limp Bizkit in Manchester. I hate the AO arena, it’s just too big, but the gig was ace. Good support acts too. Great sound surprisingly, plenty loud enough and a very enthusiastic crowd which is always good.
  15. I agree. Fender was the blue collar, bolt together utility guitar originally. Bins full of parts, manufactured at different times, assembled and shipped to ordinary folk. The folk that couldn’t afford a Gibson probably. My only Fender now, is a Mexican Player Plus Meteora. It’s absolutely outstanding to me, and I have absolutely zero aspiration to own its Ultra big brother.
  16. She’s ace. I haven’t seen her live since Bassday Manchester some years ago, fabulous player.
  17. Absolutely fabulous bass, and Paul is an absolutely stellar chap. This is an outstanding deal for someone, silly cheap, total bargain.
  18. Very tempting, not sure I have the funds though. I was planning to get one this year, but not yet. 🤔
  19. It’s the word I probably hate more than any other when searching for a new bass……. “Upgraded”. The seller “upgraded” the tuners, pickups, bridge or whatever….. it’s a massive turn off to me, and usually turns me away from the sale. I want the bass to be as original as possible, so that I can decide wether or not the bass needs any customisation to suit me, not the previous owner. Always keep the original parts, and put them back on when selling (imo). “Upgrades” hardly ever equal higher value instrument from the original stock bass, and you can re-sell those “better” (subjective) parts separately, and possibly for better gain. Just my opinion, but I do like to see unaltered instruments (where possible) when I’m buying.
  20. Never heard of them? But that’s a stunning looking bass.
  21. I’m absolutely sure that the 1005 is a way more superior bass to the GWB35, but I can remember when I had one, I was really unimpressed with it. Generally feeling a bit cheap and overpriced. Half the fret lines popped out of the ebanol, and I had to get a luthier to re-glue them all back in. That’s my only experience of the stuff.
  22. Absolutely right. Just to back that up, and bear in mind, there are multiple other more expensive basses gathering dust here, the other bass that is currently rocking my world, is a Hohner Professional JJ bass. It’s absolutely fantastic too, and my current go to 4 string. Fantastic build quality, Cort factory in Korea , early 90s I think. What can I tell you? The Sire was £70 from a woman who needed the money. The Hohner was £50 from the bay. Both needed work, both are now absolutely bang on. Both of them kick the rear end of basses that cost an awful lot more.
  23. I’ve literally been searching all online resources for a new (used) bass, in and around my budget, and there’s literally nothing that tempts me. The Sire ticks all the boxes already. I think I’ll save my money until something irresistible comes along.
