1. I tried the DOD FX25 as you know Steve, I had yours, but I couldn't get on with it. I can't afford Boutique level stuff either, but I just need a giggable filter to use on a couple of songs, nothing fancy, but something with a nice useable downward wah. Would the MXR do that do you reckon? Or maybe a Maxon AF9?
2. How does the MXR Auto Q measure up?
3. I'll have Heavy Weather and Peace Beyond Passion (if it's still available), PM me with details.
I have a budget of about 230 quid so it should be enough for a guitar and amp second hand, thanks for the advice everyone it really helped!
Yamaha BB414 or a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz. Two great basses, and around your budget, they'd be my recommendations.
I don't know about that advice. Not for a first bass anyway. Everything feels unnatural when you start playing bass. Just get a good quality, fairly straightforward bass for a reasonable price and see how you get on.
Well yes, but I think it would be a mistake to just buy a bass and see how you get on. I think it's better to try a load of them first, then make a decision. I depends how much you've got to spend too. The Wesley looks nice, no idea how it plays though as I've never tried one, and that's the problem, you need to try them first, not rely on how it looks, I've tried some basses that look stunning and play like a drain, and I believe that could put a new player off the instrument. New or old, whatever you go for, try before you buy.

Yes, go and try some basses in some shops, as many as you can to get a feel for what you like the sound of. When you've found something you like, then start looking on ebay and on here for some used basses. My advice is don't buy new, as most used basses have already had a setup etc, something a new bass won't have, I'd go for a second hand bass, preferably from here as most people here are good honest folk. Don't just buy the first bass you see, and don't be tempted to buy a bass you've never played. Your first bass really needs to be comfortable for you, because if you buy something you don't like, you've lost your money and you'll be put off playing bass altogether, and we don't want that!! TAKE YOUR TIME, and try LOADS of basses before you buy anything!!!
7. Those Trabens are wicked, I've never seen one in the flesh, but I love those bridges. They did one with a large sun shape for the bridge, it looked fantastic.
8. Last I heard, our own (or at least, bassworld's own) Janek Gwizdala was playing bass for Mike Stern.
9. Unbelievable, I just bought my little girl a violin on the bay today, this looks like it'd be a better bet. How much are you after?
10. Yeah nice one, that'd be great.
11. Does anyone play Hysteria live? How hard is it to learn? I've got a bet on with someone to see who can have it gig ready first, it sounds complicated on first listen, and difficult to pick the notes out.
12.
I remember this coming up back in the old bassworld forum. The guy's a bafoon.
Nuff said.
13. Yep, a 70's RI Jap jazz could be my next purchase, that's gorgeous. Luke, are you happy with Steve's jazz bastard?
14. I believe OBBM has one.
15. 1 x amp 2 x basses bits box inc: leads, batteries, fuses, tools, allen keys etc 2 x bass stands 4 x bottles of Corona That's it. However, I did have a problem with the amp at a gig, after the guitarist spilled a pint of Guiness over it. We had it apart, and dried it out with a hairdryer, but it wasn't happy. After that, I always made sure I had an emergency DI arrangement, which was bassically a very long lead directly to the desk/PA, so that I could do a gig without an amp at all if I had to, which I had to do a couple of times. My foldback was via the wedges, and was pretty poor, but I'm told the sound out front was great when I had to do it.
16. Oh right thanks. Funny how music shops always seem to be around there, Johnny Roadhouse is there too I think, it's been a long time since I could be bothered going into Manchester, maybe I'll go and have a look.
17. Where abouts is the new shop then?

Oh, God

That's my dream bass, right there, perfect.
19. It was brilliant. I was in a classic rock covers band for a year, 4-6 gigs a month, and I needed something I could throw around, but would look the part, the TB ticked all the boxes. The fretboard was really really nice, smooth and dark, almost like ebony. The pickups, which I fully intended to upgrade when I bought it, were fantastic, big sound, big output, it was a rock monster, the band loved it too, because I could fill out the sound while the guitarist solo'd. For under £300 new, it was a stonker. Everybody loved the look and the sound of it. The only downer was the neckdive, but I got used to it, and didn't care. I sold it when I left the rock band to help fund another bass, and it really wasn't the kind of bass I'd have outside the rock environment, but for that year I had it, I was over the moon with it. You won't need to upgrade anything on it believe me, the pups are great as they are, you'll love it.
20. Good job, mine was such a great bass, and that's a bargain price alright.
21. Stranglers - Jean Jaques Burnel Nuff said.
22. Yeah, I could be a total numpty, but it didn't seem to do a lot to me, it was quite subtle I guess.
