I'm not a P bass man by any means, even less so with sunburst, but that's awesome. Just the whole package, back story etc, the stuff that you can't buy (well, you know what I mean ;)) fair play to you '71 is my YOB, and I don't seem to see many of them turn up. I know YOB basses are a rarity in themselves, but '71 does seem to be a sparse year even by those standards. As for the bridge move......I cant think of a reason either, other than he liked to play high notes/solos and bend them a lot so was falling off the edge of the fretboard? But surely you'd bend them inwards/upwards rather than outwards/downwards? No idea Anyway, enjoy that rather cracking opportunity you've been given there WOT, as already said, fair play to ya

Been in your position, its difficult but rewarding. I found myself getting frustrated and was told by a violin player I know "Don't be daft, that stuff takes lifetimes to master!" which made me feel a bit better about it. Enjoy! p.s. Pretty much play flats on everything these days, certainly everything that other people hear anyway. As with all strings, the tone/sound/depth varies quite a lot between the different makes & models. A set of Labellas will sound different to Fender flats. You may have to experiment a bit to find what you want. The other bonus of flats IMO is that they don't have that rather quick drop in clarity that I seem to find with rounds when they have been played a bit. In fact, the set I have on my main stage bass is well over 3 years old now, I'd have changed round wound strings lord knows how many times by now

So, I've picked up an old, little used bass to find the pots have gone all crackly whenever their respective knobs are turned. I've whipped the control cover off and drowned everything in contact cleaner, but to no avail. What other fixes are there for crackling? Other than roast spuds and apple sauce **should add, its the volume and two separate tone knobs that offend. The pickup selector knob is unaffected**

Unless I've missed it, I don't think anyone has an OLP stingray on their list. Or are they classed as something else?

Cant be - the nut slots on the E and A strings aren't low enough

Went to see the Skimmity Hitchers last night, hadn't twigged who'd be on bass duties, of course its @TheRev's band innit. Cracking night, cider and jokes flowing nicely, and grooving tunes a-plenty. Really enjoyed it, and as a little bonus, even my home town had the p%ss took out of it, along with just about everywhere/everyone else Excellent sweaty fun, get along and see them if you can
