I used to have an LM3 and it seemed to work really well with a Sansamp, although they’re a warm sounding amp I find them to be pretty flat & neutral sounding. I’m not really up to speed re using fx loops as per@Downunderwonders post, maybe worth trying on the Ashdown before moving it on?

I’ve never been a real fan of RHCP, got a few albums, but these latest tracks just sound, well mature is probably the best way I can describe them. Probably well thought out songs but they just seem to fade into the background. But then I suppose they probably don’t want to just write their earlier material all over again.

Markbass are quite neutral sounding, and take pedals nicely

Def, I was quite taken aback when I heard some of John Deacons isolated tracks. In the mix his sound is big/warm/rounded, isolated I thought was gainy/scratchy/trebly.

Yep, 4 gigging Precisions: 3 x black/tort/rosewood 1 x black/white/rosewood The last one is a cheap Squier, off the shelf £12 pickguards don’t fit and for a £100 bass I’m not spending £50 on a custom made one.

Yes, a good few years ago I was in Coda Music in Stevenage and I saw a Mex Fender precision in white/rosewood, there was something about that bass that I just had to have it. I`m currently trying to resist the temptation with a bass up for grabs on here, same colour scheme.

Never played one, but similarly never read a bad word about them. I do find that the majority of Limelight Precisions that come up for sale have Jazz necks, otherwise I`m sure I`d have bought one by now. I have in fact been considering getting a regular Precision from them in light-relic finish, as find that from the pics the wear looks very authentic.

Let’s be honest, the bass and the bassist in general isn’t the focal point of most bands, with the pesky singists & guitards usually occupying those roles, so I think the hat thing is a “hey, I’m here too”. Much like when I used to wear shades on stage in a glam-sleaze type band, it was a pee-take of the 80s look but also a way of saying I am here, look at me!

I won’t spoil it for anyone, just to say I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.

Fender Custom Shop 62s don’t sound much different to those

I love gigging, but have found that as I`m getting older the ideal for me is 1 a month, unlike my last band which was pretty much every weekend and was gigs all over the country and in Europe. Luckily in the band I`m currently in all of the others are in multiple bands so it`s very unlikely we will ever get an overstocked calendar.
